@Bennie and Prego thanks for the support
like John F always tells me...it's only when you are out there that you have a chance to catch something
Marcos do you know Jose ( Pescador II ) I met him in Techo.
I've known him for years! Great guy!
Thanks Tuna....That's the spirit. Will be holding thumbs all the way.
I have this funny feeling about this one too.... I'm gonna give it my best shot... going to work the 250-400 m area really hard!
:ayb
lets do it!!!
I don't mind doing a mix of everything..as long as I'm able to play a bit with my light stick...
I believe this means I need to prepare picnic...right?
Correct gentlemen, marlin got tailwrapped and died. Took a live tuna, jumped about 10 times and took us 30 minutes to bring it in. We tried to revive it for 45 minutes, it didnt work, I called it in to boat it afterwards. Rather be honest and sleep well at night then to fake a release or come up with camera issues excuse for release. Great day regardless of comp or not.
Sailie was later on, there were a few jumping around in front the boats at one time.
Good wake up call for the tourney comittee, a marlin and sail must win a comp. Theres a big diff in killing a fish for sake of it (done it b4 unfortunately) then having a dead fish come next to the boat and nothing can be done about it.
Plenty of small tuna around, within the 4kgs range.
Inhaca day 1 theres a strong south, no comp today, we fish tomorrow.
Only two boats from Moz, Stella(Naval) and Cormoran (maritimo). Think theres 2 or 3 from Inhaca.
Sorry guys.... I've been a bit tied-up this morning... Some of us poor unfurtunate souls have to EARN our salaries ;o)
Well we were 5-up on Oliver (Cobra Cat 900)
Diamantino - Skipper
Paulo - Captain
Datsun - Crew
Albano - Junior (15 Years old)
Nomade - Assistant (Ghilly)
We ran out with all the usual suspects, as the comp commenced, all to our respective "secret grounds"
The first order of the day was to look for a Saily. We had a Halco (secret collours ) in the spread and it wasn't long before it produced the first pull of the day. After a quick fight we boated a small YFT which we should have pulled for a Marlin, but we thought that it might weigh, so we kept it, as we have not weighed a YFT for the tournament. Sadly, the little Tunny fell just short of the required 5Kg mark.
After re-setting the spread and remaining in the general area, we duffed another pull, which seemed like a much better fish..... such is fishing.
We decided to move to deeper water, pulling the same spread (targeting Saily's) we had a double strike and managed to boat both fish, a 9Kg- and a 22Kg Dorado.
We continued to look for Saily's for another hour or so, with no takers, we decided to move to the deep and target that ellusive Marlin.
Having pulled kona's for a couple of hours with no strikes, it was time to change tactic's.... SKIP-BAITS!
Within 10 minutes of pulling 2 skip-baits, the port-side outrigger popped....
10 seconds of heart-thumping silence.... a lazy few rurns of the reel.... more heart-thumping.... then..... ZZZZZZZZZZ THAT SOUND WE ALL LOVE TO HEAR... ZZZZZZZZ Set the drag to STRIKE, Some throttle on the motors.... Marlin jumps about 40 meters behind the boat. That's it, the hook is set. Throttle back, clear the other lines, clear the deck, put the joungster in the chair, and the fight begins. After a good few jumps and a few scary moments and about 45 to 50 minutes the fish was released successfuly! That's it boys! We are on the board!!! Well done to Albano!!! His first Marlin, at age 15!
Why stop backing the winning horse? Our last remaining skip-bait is set, on the starboard rigger, and 2 Rap's on the port-side. Not 20 minutes later, a bill appeared on the skip-bait! Strike 1.... another strike!... 3'rd strike..... NOTHING!!! Damn!!! What happened?? Wind the bait back.... It is crushed to a pulp. The outrigger did not pop, so the fish never swallowed the bait, meaning there is not much chanse of a hookup (with a circle hook). I suspect it was a Saily, but that is purely speculation.
By now it is almost 15h00. Set another spread of Kona's and work our way back to the weigh-in at Maritimo.
Passing a few bait-balls on the way back, we were very hopefull, but for naught. No more pulls for the day.
After all's said and done, it was a great day at sea. Good weather, good company, and a good haul.
No harness or chair???
He's not a sissy!! :hehe:
Graham landed that Blue Marlin, 100kg + and refused a harness :nobs: . It's only you Mike!!! :hyst: :hyst: :hyst:
No harness or chair???
Launched this morning for a quick (4 hour) session as a deckie on Oba Oba... sea was flat and the water kinda dirty... we tried a bit of everything (deep for bills about 2 hours), drifting with mackies for couta, jigging and speed trolling... NOTHING!
Only got 1 halfbeak tail cut off 2 mm from the hook (arrrghhhh!!!!!!) and a strike on an x-rap (probably a small tuna) that we lost!!!!
Anyway, it was good to be out in the blue again!!!!!
Long overdue, feel free to point out anything that could be done to revive this fish. Suggestions are welcomed.Marlin release attempt (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jrQjus8CSuw#ws)

@ Prego
I was out last weekend, the temp in the bay (at Maritimo) was a mere 19deg C.
Further out it was hovering between 21.8 and 22.4 deg C.
Hope that helps
Sailfish tastes very good ,We got some from fisherman at Sodwana after a fishing comp ,apparently the fisherman ate some of the marlin and it made them very sick . Was very sad to see all the dead billfish ,the people didn't know what to do with all the fish. :-(
:tkx: Searaider, how did you prepare & cook it?
Yip its sad how many fishermen still have a 'fish for today' mentality still.
I don't know a friend of mine is a chef and she prepared it
This happened quite a few year ago so I hope they don't kill as many fish now
Toppie good idea
Supper and drinks that night were served at Marujo Snack Bar (at the beach and must say Ginha took good care of us!)...I love that snack bar - the peri peri chicken is absolutely out of this world! Will definitely visit when we are over there in a few weeks, although it does get expesnive when you have to pay the island fees, plus a mooring fee etc. Is the mooring fee true by the way or just a rip-off?
<snip>... water was really cold (18-19o C)!!!! </snip>
Sorry, I must say that the water was at that temp early in the morning and then went up to 21o C!!!!What is the difference between coral gardens and Ponta Torres John F? Coral gardens is the snorkel spot, but I thought that from the seaward marker from there it was not reserve and we where allowed to fish - and I also though that bit was Ponta Torres?
Mooring fees are paid to the kids to look after your boat! It's not an official fee. I paid 250 Mt/day... if you spending just a few hours, it should be less than that!
The island entry fee is a bit of a rip off... it should be charged only if one enters a reserve. in this case, either Ponta Torres (opposite Santa Maria), Portuguese Island (the whole island) and Barreira Vermelha (aka coral gardens). If one is going to the hotel area (WHICH IS NOT A RESERVE!), one should not pay!!!! They do it because they are just lazy (and it's the main entry point to the island)!!!!!
Ok here is a quick map... I could not find a proper official map so I quickly drew one... the area shaded in yellow are the reserves (marine and terrestrial)...Oh wow - I've always had it wrong! The area marked as Ponta Torres is where I thought Coral Gardens where, and while we knew that that specific bit by the rocky ledge is a reserve, I have fished quite a bit off the beach on Inhaca from the start of the Hell's Gate channel (opposite Carlos') all the way up the beach.
Last pic... especially for nico and the shag! 40.00 mt/kg (R10.00)!!!!!!!We definitely need to negotiate!
Last pic... especially for nico and the shag! 40.00 mt/kg (R10.00)!!!!!!!LOL - and I was making halfbeak traces in the garage last night! We do need to have a little chat John F. So you coming over on the first Saturday then :-)
Yolanda II caught a 19 Kg wahoo 3 days ago... Seems like Tunaman is right... they are all out there.. only a matter of going out and getting them!TUNAMAN allways right :hnthnt:
Kela (Clube Naval) went out last weekend... only got a 7 kg kingfish on jigging at Poco.... they think they had a bill between Poco and Baixo Danae... took a lot of line but didn't stick!Perfect Wahoo and :billf: weather. You now need to wait for a NE turning SE and then hit the lull in between before the NE. You might only get 3 or so hours but go straight to the best feature you know of and you will have a ball. Not for the faint hearted however.
Weather has been like a washing machine... swinging from SE-NE-SE-NE!!!!
Team Micaela getting ready to the 2nd leg of the Billfish Classic on 15 October. We'll be taking Oba Oba. Preparation at full speed!
:billf:
Good Luck to Team "Micaela".
Keep us posted.
:tite
At the end of the day we had a good wahoo 18 kg (on one of my DIY lures - really happy about it! - on my okuma T50W - thanks Tunaman!); a dorado 7.6 kg (halfbeak and kona) and other smaller stuff... Never had a billy close by although all the guns were out there...
It was good to be out again but really miss being on MY ship! Oh, one more thing... No more mentoring for me!!!!
That hoo and the 2 bigger Dorados that I and Peterblace fought were hard work on the Noahs Ark reel, 2 forward one back :hehe: :hehe:
The Wahoo was caught on a Manns deep diving lure, and the Dorados on Pulsator Conas and Ilander lures, interestingly enough the skipper choose to have birds in front of the lures out wide but no strikes on those :dunno:
In the end I had a great day with some good fish, fantastics snacks on board a comfortable boat and awesome company :tkx: Team Moz
Hey Marcos sorry about that but it was very last minute decision to come through, thanks for the lift to the club. BTW sorry we beat your fish by 900grams :crzy :hehe: :hehe:
Some day soon I will join you on Maximus so we can choose what lures we would like to run where :hehe:

Hey Prego, you must submit this catch to the Angler of the Month December comp!!!!!
:hehe: :hehe: :hehe: Thats a patent style :crzyby the way we are having a mini social on thursday afternoon in midrand? you going to make a guest appearance?
I must say that last Dolly gave me a hiding, must of had a stale mate for about 10 minutes where he just held deep.
Excellent video Peterblace :tkx: & :+ cred:
Hahaha you have been on that boat to many times pulling the same spread lol
BTW is that platform or rig still in the Poco area?I believe they moved it further North...we didn't spot it as we were way too South
Heard of a black marlin that died on "Bite me" during last weekend's comp... any more news peter?all details are on reply 193...guess you haven's read it!!!
Ooops.... didn't see it.... thanks for the update...plenty bait...and some tuna activity
2 h 30 to fight a 98 kg marlin?!?!? Must have been on 30 Lb tackle?
Hard luck on Oba Oba! That area is a bit of a desert... any bait around Jeremias?
Do the chaps on OBAOBA not like pulling live bait for marlin??
I believe there was a 33.6kg wahoo weighed yesterday?? Nice fish that!!
Heard Cormorant also got 6 Couta and T&R a GT yesterday with their 4 X yellow fins.
Looks like they will be the winners of this comp.
Marcos that yellow fin is awesome. You know which team weighed it?
By the way... first decent WINTER day (weather wise) we had in Maputo bay...
Hope it stays like that for the weekend...

Rain kept falling till 11:30... We waited at the club from 5:30 for it to stop and eventually gave up...Whats wrong you guys scared the rain is going to ruin your blow waves?? :hehe: The fish dont mind, they are already wet brother!!
Another boat lauched at 13:00 and got 4 YFT, 1 kingfish and a green jobfish at Poco...
Next time!
Nice one brother, please tell me what you are doing pulling Rappies with a 130W?? :crzy
I am sure its nothing serious with your engine.
the only bright side I can spot is to never trust the weatherman
Shot for the report broder....if line collapsed on the knot/loop I believe problem it's on the line
If it is not the line, maybe there's a nick in one of the guides.... check...
Forgot too ask what lure/colour did the :billf: hit and what speed where you doing?black&purple 5"allien kona on the short corner

Seems to be some mixed results up there guy, I heard that the billfish bite has been hot off inhaca/maputo and there are some good results from some guys who found the fish and then nothing from the other guys, I suppose thats how it is. I am so desperate do come and do another Inhaca trip, we really must try and put something together.Club Naval's bar...specially that lady that by mistake had a photo shoot with flsh is also looking forward for your visit
Marcos / Pedro awesome reports and stick at it I know it will happen, its all about the hours on the water!!!
Look forward to seeing you buggers soon!!

she's been asking...where's the handsome gentelman that took me a photo?...it's been 40y that someone took me a photo!!!!
in my case a billfish it's a bycatch...I'm not targeting them...but I know that everyone is going to the 400mt mark East of Liberty 2 mark (that cannyon you marked when you were here 2y ago)
JohnF mentioned all the fleet was throlling that area
I will bring some more for your next mini socials
NE wind caused the comp to be postponed from tomorrow to Sunday.Best baits ever!! good luck fella's!!
All systems go! 19:00 h I was sorting my live-bait circle hooks and peterblace challenged me to source some fresh HBs. Sent an sms to my supplier and 15 min later we had 3kg (40!) of the most shiny, fresh and succulent HB! Marinating now and Sunday they will be ready to find their way into greatness!
Bring it on!
Ps: peterblace, better hurry up with those cuban stogies!
Amandla's engines were damaged as well. Do you know of anyone that claimed the repair cost from their insurance?
Regards
Fanus
went out today on a family ride aboard Oba Oba...Miguel's parents are about to head back to their place in Brazil so he invited me for this outing
weather was perfect...flat sea..no wind
plan was to spend some time at Ilha dos Portugueses...but we took some rods to give it a try
we decided to headed out first and then to the beach...and it was a good decision as we caught a ~15kg YFT (Prego...didn't weight the head but "our" head was way bigger)
Miguel's father fought for 20min on the 1:2 penn senator...it was a good fight and a nice catch
we had no more strikes and headed to Ilha dos Portugueses to chill a bit
it was a nice relaxed outing
Looks like winter is here already (fishing wise). Nana also went out the same day (they went north) and only got small YFT (5-6 kg) and lost a saily...definetely...we folowed the bleeding (and blood cleaning) ritual...and just after taking this picture we cleaned (guts etc) the fish properly
Nice YFT peter... did you guys followed the bleeding ritual?!
Been too long, so bugger this I'm Going blankin'....hope I fail dismally!

The marlin are being targeted very deep (+400 m) with big konas. Thanks Marcos, might be time for another Inhaca trip :hnthnt:
Great report & well done on some nice fish there Pedro! (clap) In terms of your problem you had"today when I went to the club I soon found out what the problem was...carb 1 and 2 fuel hoses were out of place...no idea how that could happen but another element on the checklist before a outing". Not sure however as fate would have it on our last trip to Inhaca i also had fuel lines that had loosened and was leaking fuel. The reason was that my mate had pumped the fuel primer bulb way too much and the pressure resulted in the hoses being dislodged! Not sure if this was the reason for your fuel lines coming loose however thought i'd mention it!

I guess your suggestion might be the cause...it's a possibility
maybe when the mechanic did the carbs service didn't put the hose in place properly...or the SS hose tighteners are a bit soft and need to be replaced
but while swapping jerrys I did pumped some more fuel in...so we might have found the culprit for my stress return trip
thanks for the suggestion...and for the cheers
There's two type of people WRT to that slipway (actually three, no four!)...LOL those barnacle covered sipways can be nasty, i took a nasty tumble many years ago at the August Winds SKi boat club in St Lucia, took ages to heal.
i) those have never seen those barnacles up close;
ii) those that did (and take extra precautions!)
iii) those that did, take extra precautions (and still see the barnacles every now and then!)
i) and those that actually tend to get suspended by the pants while trying to jump from a boats bow!!!! :hyst:
Nice report pb!
new Oakley glasses bought in the USA on my last trip there
thing is those are not my boat/fishing glasses..more like a fashion ones..
boat glasses stay closer to the face and are more tight to prevent this situation
also..boat glasses are lighter
well bad luck and lesson learned..next time I'll wear boat glasses and put the fashion ones away
All set for tomorrow. Last comp of the year.
Weatherman says we'll have flat seas most of the day and a nice easterly to bring us back in the afternoon.
Gonna fish for the pot early in the morning and then see if we can photo shoot a pointy one from mid morning.
Launching tomorrow for the first time this year. peterblace will be joining the MAXIMVS crew along with my dad and bruder....I see a :billf: in your future!! enjoy and best of luck!
Hoping for a bit of nice, relaxed social fishing ...
Cancelled the launching. Woke up to some serious, unexpected showers! :rain:
Damn all of you weathermen! Back to bed!

Going "bill-targeting" tomorrow. Nice weather and right tides... Taking big guns and lot's fuel...
Just got word from PB they dropped 2 yesterday. First one they dropped after hooking up while still setting up the spread early on but line got tangle around the rod tip and line broke and the second at the end of the day after fighting the fish for 10mins it spat the hooks :-(
Guess that's :billf: fishings
Was about to give you a call about this report!I wouldn't do it on maguro/maximvs...we did get a big hiding from neptune...but I don't feel that sore
Congrats on the saily and for braving the conditions!
I don't feel that sore camlmer seas give me bigger body sore aboard maguro/maximvs
but I have to say that we all felt a bit sick...2 of us tottaly KO the all trip
Maybe the water is too warm, hopefully by march it will be cooler after a cyclone or 2 :shkdon't expect much re accomodation after this
yebo Reefs...I'm using the gopro on the pole stick (home made...got a gardenia pole and attached a rollbar mount to it)
then when there's action I just start the camera and film either the action in the boat and the UW when fish gets closer
basically when I'm watching the video (super slow motion) I pause and take stills from that...no editing after...all natural
I was just chatting to Prego that I'm loving the pole more then the trollpro...I'm thinking of selling the trollpro as I've been playing way more often with the pole then with the trollpro...trollpro it's nice when there's action...but UW you never know when you will have that
I recently bought the special diving housing for the HD Hero 2 and that also makes a big difference on the UW footage...there's plenty more light going for the video as on the Hero 3...although I reckon the Hero 3 also have automatic white balance and some other stuff better for UW

heard a boat launched last weekend and came in with some 4 YFT ranging the 20kg mark...no idea where they were caught as skipper and fisherman didn't went too much in details
maximvs on the way back
Brilliant stuff guys, what a superb day. I hope I can twist your arms for some waypoints for the October trip.from Manico it's about 18nm...but when it's working it does worth the trip
B1 is a long way north isn't it? How much fuel did you use for the day?
Lekker report PeterB, looks like you guys had jol :envy.the way is already on the way
We'll be there in October, maybe you can show us the way :dunno:

Ouch that is heavy PB, my 2 X 140hp on my 2,5 tons tug does that!! time to invest it 4 strokes!!
Alone on the boat, decent weather I did 0,7L/nm on my 60 zukes.
Heavy load with bad weather I did 1L/nm.
JohnF this post is aimed at you. swr

To Santos, a friend fishing on his 21 ft Acecraft 21 "Waikiki II" went out yesterday to roughly the same area up north and got 4 YFT (4-6 kg) and 4 couta (~ 5kg). They braved NE winds all day, but got rewarded...sorry???...you have excluded yourself
I know there's a secret plan to go out on Saturday, but I've been excluded
Great report Pedro, but without pics, it didn't happenCongrats Pedro sounds like you guys had a great trip. LOL agreed where the pics w;k
First time I seen the pics of all the fish on the floor and rather not comment :-(
I would hope that when you Debben okes catch and eat fish, you don't sit there an guzzle it by yourself, but share it with family and friends. A couple in the freezer doesn't hurt either w;k

Hey guys,
I have been instructed to leave a brief comment of the fishing trip yesterday.
We went north to Boia Perdida, for the 50 meters ledge, we saw a lot of seagulls and no biting all morning one YFT came to the boat and one lost.
We tried drifting with sardine for a bit while it was raining :rain: and nothing. :vio
Then around 1PM they starting biting, a lot of action and not many bites, enought another 9 Tunas.
One of them was a 23kg YFT beast and another same size took my gaf and manage to escape the hook. :creep: :dunno: :creep: :dunno:
Well i could put some pictures but i have been advised not too.

Well done, great fishing! Is Travel members Saily caught at the interprovincial not the first bill?
First submission to the UA billfish Hall of Fame 2014/15?!?!
at 350mts depth we had a nice show of a pack of ~50 false killer whales (tbc by JohnF) joining us...they stood approximately 10 minutes swimming around/behind/underneath us...chasing our lures and teasers...we nearly dove with them but I guess it was a good call not to after I google false filler whales images ans saw them chowing some big stuff
I think that is a good idea. Never forgetting this is a wild animal..
Reminds me of this video i saw not long ago, here in Mozambique

Eish I should of just come :cry:remember yesterday when we chat about nice forecast for today...well...it was wrong...some white caps in the bay so I guess only yesterday was a good fishing day
:envy
we kept working that same area and managed to get 3 dories (+15kg, ~5kg and 7/8kg)

You forgot to say that one of the dorries was caught on a SnR lure :-)
sorry for not reporting this to you...my fault...and sorry for not taking any pic...we were only 3 aboard and it's not easy when there's a dorie coming inNo problem, I understand.
we always want to load it into the hatch to avoid the slaps

Lekker enjoy guys (clap) post some pics if you can.
I have heard from Teresa (Manico Camp) that a dhow sank on Saturday. It was on its way from Maputo to Inhaca. Norman is helping in the search for survivors. So far 3 people were found but one passed away. Apparently there are still 5 missing. Please pray that they find more survivors tomorrow. Condolences to the families who have lost loved ones.we knew about that...and for our outing on Sunday we were all in allert as we knew all were wearing life vests
Hey Guys
Well done with the catches on Sunday Peterblaze.
Would you guys mind sharing some waypoints for Maputo bay and around Inhaca as im new to this fishing waters.
And let me know when you guys have a get together again would like to meet ya all.
:tkx:
We will definitely look to do quite a bit of snorkeling with the girls on some shallow reefs, any suggestions here…? I can imagine that the neap tides would be more suitable for the diving in this area specifically. I’ve heard of a very nice reef across the channel at the southern tip of Inhaca? Any other shallow reefs in the area? Diving around Lighthouse reef at the NE tip of Inhaca?
I have heard that Rock&Surf fishing in that area can be pretty good. Maybe slide some live bait in some good spots for GT?
Light spinning around Hells Gate, and the general area? Both from the boat and from shore, I am sure there should be a variety of species one can target on dropshot, small spoons,Ondas, rapala MaxRap, small poppers etc….?
Heavy Popping for GT? Suggestions? Good spots? Both from the boat and from the shore. Successful colours for the area?
Hell’s Gate – any specific suggestions here? I understand that it can get pretty dangerous. So sea conditions permitting, I understand that it is better to go out to sea through the gates with the tide pushing into the bay, and coming back with the tide going out again..???
Fishing spots mentioned before:
Baixo Danae (S25 54.573 ; E33 03.489)
Baixo Jeremias (S25 56.756 ; E33 02.902)
Poco (S25 47.878 ; E33 06.108)
Boia Perdida (S25 49.818 ; E32 58.741)
B24 (S25 52.948 ; E33 04.045)
B1 (S25 41.237 ; E32 58.039)
And of course Santa Maria reef.
From reading all the fishing reports and posts on here, it seems like the standard modus operande when fishing in this area would be to get out there, look for some birds/bait or any surface activity around some good marks, get your hands on a small bonnie…put it down there as live bait on some good marks…then hold on for dear life…??
Any suggestions on the trace used? One single through the nose, two trebles, one in the middle and one further back? Size wire used?
If we can’t get our hands on a suitable bonnie; troll a spread of lures, halfbeaks and maybe a daisy chain to get a good chance of catching a bonnie?
What about drifting with baits on some good marks?
Jigging on some deeper marks; are any of the local guys focussing on this discipline out there? There should be some serious Ambers around the deep pinnacles? I’ve even heard some spearos have seen some doggies out there!
Heavy Popping for GT on some deeper 20-30m reefs??
Some good YFT (~30 kg) and wahoo (18-20 kg) coming out lately...
Good stuff pb... you need to start using wire on your rigs :hehe:
Unlucky Out there, but wish it was me!
Any reason your not using steel??
Great fishing this past sunday. We dicided not to enter the billfish comp and tather enjoy some social fishing and get some fish for the pot.eisha...can't disagree more on that
We launched early (05:00) ahead of the comp party and went imediatly to Baixo Ribeiro to try and get some live bait. The plan was quite simple: slash the couta proper! So I stole some sardines from peterblace, had my trusty rappies and speed pros ready, and took some HBs for later.
We found no bait at Baixo Ribeiro so proceeded to my couta grouds. My regular crew plus a guest (Pierre), wanted to try a bit of bottom fishing (despite being a spring tide with strong currents).
We got some nice fish and two kingies rounding up at 7 kg! Great fights! My brother even got reefed on a stradic 8k full locked... probably a GT or king of some sorts... unstoppable!!!!
We run out of bait (didn't have more 500 gr) and dicided to target couta. Great fishing we had! In total we had 7 couta (5.5 - 8.5kg)... even a small GT (about 4 kg), which was released!
Trolled back with a spread of surface konas with HBs and stripbaits and docked at 4 pm. Great day out ( not too hot) and fresh fish in the table.
Summer is here!
Very slow out there on the sharp face front.
Thanks Sheldon! Needed to hear some reel music and get some action after such a long period of inactivity!100% :corrct:
Congrats peterblace on releasing your first marlin broder!!!!

Pull some Speedpro's fast for the Whoo's that are lurking.
Guess who is going :fshn: tomorrow?!?!?
only reason you coming aboard ōtoro is the lack of crew on maximvs!!!
GREAT fishing trip!!!! Another one for the "best of"... suffice to say I got a new PB YFT (21 kg)!!!!
Will let peterblace tell the story...

In my defense, I was the slave of the day... these guys made me work like a prisoner! It's only fair that only ONCE the bloody thing wasn't on... and we spotted the rod bending immediately (as we were expecting it!)...my pleasure...it was a honor to have you as a decky onboard...I believe there will be a proper revenge aboard maximvs!!!
Anyway, I'll gladly take that SD.... single malt please!!!!
Yeap.... probably this one was destined to be "the one that got away"... hahaharemember we had the trophy licence aboard
Congrats Pedro, that's a awesome fish. Well done on the release (clap) (clap)it was caught on one of your TLD50's
That is a beast of a fish well done guys. (clap) (clap) (clap)they were the ones navigating around us...and trying to figure out what we were doing there for so long
Must of been interesting navigating around the rest of the fleet while doing battle
we took a few pictures and measure it and after some revival in the water we release the fish...just to see it floating and struggling to go down
we tried all...pushing it down...trowing it down...all ended up with the fish at the surface kicking the fin and trying to dive down with no success
didn't realyse a fish would have barotrauma coming so slowly to the surface...I thought this would only happen when the fish is winched up quickly
I grabbed a knife and decided to stab the fish next to the pectoral fin...what a relief...for me and the fish
we heard the air flowing...and the fish got stronger and stronger and swam freely back to his reef
ufa!!!! we were both very happy
I guess I need to ask my best DYI friend to produce me one
:creep:

Easy, quick and cheap!

:win:That is a bus!!!!Nope... The Blue Train
Looks like this is going to be THE season. The 'hoos are sticking around in good numbers/sizes, the YFT run is in full force and I know for a fact that the bills are in the area!!!! All we need now is the NE to stop blowing during the weekends!!!! <:
What a scary site that must be, Sheldon in his leopard print G-String speedo chasing YFT :hyst: :hyst: :hyst: :hyst: :hyst: :hyst:
Are you taking your boat up incase you get tired Boet ?
Nothing much to report back:
* Water temp between 22.4 - 24o C - clean;
* Great sea conditions (as predicted);
* 2.5 YFT (the taxman is still collecting!!!);
* Went deep and targeted saillies and other non toothy things with a full HB spread and had a dorrie spit the hook after a couple of jumps!
* Total of 86.6 nm and 97 L of juice;
* Great day nonetheless;
* Very few local boats outs;
* A meal of fresh salt+pepper+lemon YFT steaks with a nice side salad is definitely hard to beat! :yft:
Some intense billfish action when a gap in the weather appears...I guess you are also missing a Xmas report
C'mon Prego where's your report? :billf: :billf:
(bat
I guess you are also missing a Xmas report
Awesome Marcos, what area did you target and get the couta at?
Maybe a 5kg Bonnie, I hear they can give you quite a rev :hyst: :hyst: :hyst: :hyst: :hyst: :hyst: :hyst: :hyst:
Launched yesterday morning at 5am from Club Naval and stop at the shallow banks but no cuda’s for the take.what a nice resumed report...congrats on the catch
Follow where the sun rose and manage to get 4 skippies in a jiffy.
While rigging them (1 at a time) live they all died before i could get them in the water. At least no.4 survived.
Dragging him for 2 hours, swimming like an Olympic medalist the rubber on the rigger shot, feeding the bait till i could not kept up and slowly increase the drag, the mighty rose from the deep. Dancing and jumping was his response to the hoop-up.
2 hours and 10 minutes later on 50lb i successfully release about 120kg black marlin caught on a circle hook (my 1st on circle)
What a day, return to the Club at 5pm with a very calm see.
Mmmmmmm may i can get another trip this week coming......
8 days to go Inhaca here we come , Marcos where did they get those pointy noses depth etc 200-400 m ?

Don't want to jinx your trip but have you seen the forecast for next week?! Hope you come well stocked with plenty of patience, light tackle for bay fishing and .... booze!!!
heard LHooker apparently was tail wrapped
straf dop x2...plus interest means a full bottle
The ratchet was off
Yeah thanks for a great day out and the report. Sums it up nicely.
A few highlights:
1. Not only the winter is creeping through, but the old bones need extra time to recover after a day like yesterday... had a hard time getting out of the bed today :hyst:
2. At one point we were simultaneously fishing for bottoms, popping and drifting 2 baits out on balloons.... could even have had a kite up with 2 rods if we had some wind... PURE MAGIC... not a single entanglement.... worked like an atomic clock!!! :rck"
3. My 110 L Addis live-bait well apparently has some magic properties: live bait grow there like crazy... double the size on an individual fish within 2 hours!!!! :hyst: :hyst:
Nah... someone told me refined sugars were not good for me.
Hi John Do you perhaps know when the new road will link up at Kosi border?
One of these to the first to guess where will I be tomorrow :crzy

The GTs and other kingies will be around... you just need to put in the effort... play with the tides and time of day...
I would suggest you broaden you game plan a bit with regards to the offshore fishing... try a combination of xraps, surface lures and drifting baits. And also consider exploring other areas (Jeremias, Baixo Danae, south of Baixo Santa Maria). Put in the time and I'm sure you will get some bites...
Nothing.
Good day Peter Blace, you mentioned 'Bullets' can you elaborate a bit on that please?

We did the usual hi speed trolling (http://www.ultimateangling.co.za/index.php?topic=21782.0 (http://www.ultimateangling.co.za/index.php?topic=21782.0)) using one Demon Tackle bullet and a lure from the US (ballyhood wahoo express).
just a question, any particular colour for the lure?
Or time to Toughen up. :creep:
are those not brassy kings?
(clap)Well done nice fish :rck" are those not brassy kings?from what I've seen brassy kingies have a yellow anal fin and also the bottom, part of the tail is yellow...but I will let the experts analyze
Awesome... Thanks for the report Pedro. I might have to ditch work and come crew for you (clap)feel free...you are more then welcome
Good morning guys,
Hope one of you MTB guys can help me with some info please.
I noticed that most of you launch at Club Navel.
Would you be able to tell me what the 2019 launching fees are and what a lunching permit will cost me ?.
Is club Navel better than Escola....?
Also I am struggling to get hold of them regarding secure parking prices for my bakkie and trailer.
I am bringing the family to Santa Maria 15th of June and have arranged for the lodges boat to fetch my wife and daughters. My son and I are planning on taking the boat across the bay.
Is June a good time to fish MTB ?.
Any assistance would be highly appreciated .
Thanks

Booked another cruise from 18 - 22 Jan 2021, the MSC opera docks in maputo harbour on 19 Jan 2021 and we spend a day and night there. I'd love to hook up with one of you guys from maputo, either for a short fishing trip (Fuel paid) or organise a tour around maputo
