Sad to see someone go at that age, we really need to look after our health and take nothing for granted.

forecast for saturday was beautiful...flat sea...nearly no wind with only some S coming at lunch time
knowing from the "commercials" that none to very little game fish was coming out and only a few bottoms I gave it a try and went out on my own Saturday morning
Maximvs was also gona launch around same time as Marcos wanted to take the kids for a spin
so Friday we made a quick plan on what areas we should give it a try...and decided for Bx Ribeiro and Cockburn
maguro also did a service (gear box oil, impelers, carb clean, ) last month and that was an opportunity to test it properly

my usual team was out so I decided do launch on my own...so I got to the club at 6:45, set the boat and launched by 7:45

set lines at Perto Perto and trolled for a while in that area before heading to Bx Ribeiro and the surroundings
by 9:30 Maximvs was in the area and I decided to head a bit further out to Cockburn and search for some activity as that area was dead
only activity I saw the all day was packs of dolphins playing around the boat

overall boat behaved very well with engines being very stable and with very flat seas I ended up doing 1.6lt/nm which is great on a total of 53nm
as a factor boat was light (only me) and only took 6 jerry...but I rev up in some occasion to test it
water temp was ranging between 19.5º to 21º and was very clean deeper...and with some debris from the rivers causing lures cleanup for quite a few times

here are some pics

Leaving the report for the appointed rapporteur...

In the mean time here are a few buzz words:
-> Spinning frenzy;
-> YFT, plenty;
-> Sore bodies;
-> Broken and lost tackle;
-> Taxman? Yes, but not sharks!!!!
-> Flat day, all day!

during the week JohnF and myself decided that Saturday was a great day to launch
weather forecast was great (nearly no wind and flat seas) throughout all day and Friday arriving we had a plan
going out North in the early hours to target some cuta and then heading further out and deep for some odd saily
while setting up all on Friday rcoliveira84 showed up with no crew and was invited aboard maguro
we launched at 6:35 and headed to B1...smooth ride all the way there...by 7:40 we set a spread of 4 rappies just to check if something was biting and also looking at the sounder to try and find some activity
sounder was very quiet with nearly no showings...we set another line out while founding out that 1 of the rods had lost the lure...out of the blue line snapped...well not so out of the blue...after I did a service on the reels I have replaced all the line...and loaded the reels with brand new 30lb IGFA tripple fish and Berkley big game
while tying the aussie plate and checking the drags one of the kits was snapping always...I insisted on keeping the line in and failed (1st gear failure)

we kept trolling till about 9:00 when we spotted some birds and getting to them we had our first strike
we gave rcoliveira84 the honor to fight the first fish...and within short time we landed a nice 6kg cuta
all joys...at least we were not blanking!!!
all set up again and going over some birds activity another strike...JohnF took the rod and we landed our first YFT
same story and now it was my turn...while clearing the rods to reach the rod I handed in JohnF one of them...vazz...double up!!!
I fought my fish while rcoliveira84 was on the gaff to help JohnF...2nd gear failure on the way
at gaffing distance line snapped again...same rod&reel...it was time to make the decision to throw that kit away...(it was not the chosen one as you soon will notice)
rcoliveira84 went back to the wheel and JohnF gaffed the biggest YFT of the day...14kg
we then decided not to go out to the deep and maybe try and work the area further North...Robalo went out on Friday and mentioned that we might be lucky on that area...
while working those birds we had a call from Sholay to confirm that...they were bottom fishing and mentioned that some nm up North we would have some more activity
we headed there and found the birds and the tuna smacking at the surface...
we did some trys and nada on the trolling and on our first stop to cast we had some bites...but fish was not committing...so JohnF decided to change weapons...
swapped from a stickbait to a needle nose plug and on the the first cast he was on...
then the game started...both spinning rods swapped to needle nose plug and each cast was fun for all
while someone was fighting the other 2 were helping each other gaffing and bleeding the tuna...
we even let some traces out but there was no takers for that...fish was only interested in one type of lure...needle nose plug
at a certain time we noticed that there was too much water on the false transom...going into to the deck...and into the fishing hatch
I had to make a call to stop the fishing for a while to sort that out
too much weight on the back of the boat made that...so we moved all the fish from one hatch to the other, cleared the water in the hatch with buckets and back into action
basically we set in the same area with engines off just drifting...and the tuna shoal and the bait ball was drifting with us...so we had not much to do...just cast fight and land YFT...but I have to say that we only landed at least 2/3 of what we have had on

then the excitement came aboard...when rcoliveira84 was fighting a fish, I had the camera down in the water and JohnF was ready to gaff we noticed that the fish was surgical taxed on the 1/4 to the tail...
we then saw same shadows underneath and though...there comes the tax man take the remaining from our tuna...
...nah...it had stripes...there were 3 of them...trunk size...wahoo's...eiba!!!
throw some plugs to them...they all had a sneak peak and nada
throw a carapau on a trace...they had a sneak peak and nada
they stayed with us for quite a while not going away...really close to the boat...sometimes nearly at gaffing distance...they could sent the tuna and the blood from maguro
we set a rappie on and started the engines...just when we were setting another rod...a big splash...we are on I shouted...went for the rod and vazzz...reel screaming...but for just a few seconds...fish didn't commit

I have to say...I have had success in the past with the xrap magnum gold scad...but all the strikes we had on Saturday were on this color again...it's working and I love it

then it was about time to start heading back home slowly to try and find a saily...
...but we were only able to find another bait ball with tuna smacking on the surface...Marcos moved forward to the bow...casted once...and fought for the last time of the day with another YFT

on a last note I decided to increase the speed on the trolling to check if something would strike going faster...I will not say gear failure...it was my failure as I told everyone that the rods on the horizontal rod holders on the trolling board didn't need a safety leash...wrong call
with the speed increase and some bump without noticing I lost 1 kit...and not the the one with that snapping line...
...but again apart from the rod/reel/line another very productive lure was lost...

it was a wonderful day in good company enjoying fishing
we are not fit at all...I speak for myself...all day spinning got me tired...i still feel all the muscles...even some muscles I didn't realize they exist
water temp was ranging from 19º at the dock at 6:30 to 22º out in the blue
some whales showed up...some turtle and enough YFT to feed us...the family and some close friends
