launched yesterday with JohfF aboard maguro
plan was to head North for some cuta fishing and after cuta time we would head out to the deep for some spinning (whenever we have tuna activity), jigging at the Radio Active area and out to try for some saily and some dorado
late(r) launch as my deckie fell asleep...boat was in the water at 6:20 and we headed for BxRibeiro to collect some livies...and in 20min we were packed with good size ones
by 8:20 we were in the cuta area but nearly no activity...no showings on the sonar and no surface activitity
we had 4 lines out...2 at the surface and 2 deeper
after nearly 1h we had our first strike...but our livie was eaten and the bling was spit off
we setup again and worked the area one more time...and we were on...
JohnF grabbed the rod and fought the fish...after 5m a 8kg cuta was landed
we setup again and kept working the area untill 10:15...and because all was slow we decided to bring all up and start heading out
we setup 1 kit with a heavy bullet and we trolled at 16knts nearly all the way to Poço...nada
at Poço, were we normally see plenty surface activity and nice showings...this time we saw very little to nada
we decided to give it a try on jigging...and on the first drop I was on...for 10''...fish didn't like my squid jig
then shoalls were moving...so the little we saw on the sonar soon disapear
we stayed in the area for nearly 1/2h and decided to head out to Liberty area...and to B24...by 14:30 and with nearly no action we called the day off
already in the bay we spotted the usal 3M bonnies...and we gave it a try on the spinning kit
first I only had 1 strike and none comminting...then JohnF's turn...on the fisrt cast he had 1 strike...on the 2nd cast he was on and afer 3m we landed and released a ~5kg bonnie
it was full of action with halfbeaks, flying fish, small bait jumping all over
it was a good day at sea in good company...loads of chatting and good fun
at the end of the day we spoke to the spearos about their outing
we all concluded that we are in winter fishing with summer weather
nice and flat seas...28º water temp, 31º outside temp and nearly no wind (with the usual East blowing in the afternoon giving us a bumpy ride)
Nakisai launched and landed a 500lb marlin...died after 3h fight
Mon Ami found a lost fishing net and caught some tuna and dorado around it
spearos...some caught little fish...some caught some nice fish...1 doggy killed and 1 missed...2 nice size cuta, some barracuda and some small rat cuta
yesterday maguro also gave me some headaches:
1) battery flat...I had to jump start one of the engines
2) live bait well has the water flow to the deck...so fishing hatches were filled with water in a few seconds...I have to redo something on the live bait well...that's a problem cause for some how I have water going to the hull
3) VHF radio has a malfunction on the communication button
4) port engine control when accelerating locks the red button (the one you click when in neutral to engage the throttle)...I have to press the red button again to reduce the speed
solutions:
1) although battery stayed overnight on the carger I will not risk and I will buy a new one during the week...
2) I will do some tests to try and find out how the water is going to the hull...I think there's some leaking from the fish hatch...it's only on the starboard side of the boat and I've seen some water coming from that side of the hull
3) I will try and fix it here in Maputo...otherwise I'm buying a new one...prices on fixed VHF units?
4) do you guys have any thought about the reason that can happen?
ah...finaly I found a solution for what I've exposed here
http://www.ultimateangling.co.za/index.php?topic=13267.msg208391#msg208391I found someone in CPT that has the pistons I'm looking for
pricing is good and I will go for it...in 2 weeks I'm collecting the stuff in hands in CPT
