Some awesome fish came out on Sunday.... was nice to see so many boats on the water again! Hoping for a bumper summer season!

That GT and Poensie are remarkable catches.. saw them when they weighed them at Fynnlands yesterday.

So the GT was safely released into the hatch? :hyst:

Geez Mark, nicely done bud!! Reckon you need to plug in a couple days leave late next month so we can have a crack at the jigging again...

All in all looks like a good weekend off the KZN coast, good to see...

Ah ok...

FYI, I don't have man periods... I say it, as I see it.

It was a simple tongue-in-cheek observation.

Glad you edited your post.

It's the right time of year for it now. We went again yesterday to find some bigger ones but the current was screaming (2+ knots) so it was difficult to get down with the jigs eventually we needed 300g and 400g jigs to have a shot at reaching the bottom. We got 3 big bonnies and then eventually found the right showing and got 2 big hits, Kurt held on to his second one and managed this beauty around the 15kg mark:

We generally look for them on bumps and ledges in water depths from 50-90m, generally areas where guys fish for bek and cracker and yellowtail. They move around a lot and don't like strong current so on a day when the current is slack it's worth a shot....

So its basically the same at the tropicals we get in Inhambane, just a lot shallower - 20-30m, sometimes they are so thick it looks like bait on the sounder and they take whipped spoons 5-10m from the boat.

Exactly the same, we got those same smaller model tropicals here on protea banks, they are wild and great fun on light tackle!

Awesome catch Mark, recon you need to change your name to "Amber" :-) .
Guys quick one im coming down to Dbn to get a few things sorted on my boat at Dave. Plan to launch from DSBC on Sat morning. My question is what are you guys targeting at the moment and what would be a good plan of action to try get some fish in the hatch?? Go to containers and get some livebait, then out to Umhlanga Barge and drift some livebait, troll a few lures between points? What would you guys recommend?

Geelbek and Garrick is about all it worth going for this time of the year, snoek are pretty much all year round but have been dismal this year.
Geelbek on the deep wrecks and backline at Lugs for Garrick if conditions permit - it can be quite dangerous and the skipper should not fish.
No need to go to the containers for bait - there is more bait on the Barge. Maybe see you down there for a beer. :-)

Windguru has the wind pumping from tomorrow till well into next week. You may want to consider launching your boat in the harbour and settling for a grunter. Launch at the public slipway next to royal natal yacht club. Just log your trip in and out with the SAP stationed next to the slipway.

I dunno, Windfinder and Magicseaweed look ok, Saturday should be ok but it depends how messed up the sea gets on Thursday/Friday. I think I am going to give it a go, will make a call early Saturday..

Not much hope for Saturday. Typical Durban weather - perfect in the week and terrible during weekend. Best to make a call on Friday afternoon and again in the morning. Saw some boats on the flat seas this week. Lucky chaps - any fish this week? Saw some boats trying for snoek as well

Weather not looking good for the next week!!!

FFF, GregF and myself had night trip last night, no success but big learning curve for me, totally different to day time fishing, but sure we will have better success in future, reports from other boats that fishing was hard, plenty showings but no action. Also a heart stopper when a whale breaches next to the boat you cant see it and blow holes twice....clean underwear please duh
