A basic set of lures/spoons/dropshot
« on: August 09, 2011, 08:25:50 AM »
Hi guys with my recent run of epic non success I have decided that maybe I should go back to targeting some smaller fish on artificials. Perhaps this change in tactics will break the monkey on my back :dunno:

As some of you may remember from WK's thread Post your lure collection mine is rather dismal. My plan is to by a couple of lures each month so that come december and a possible trip to Kleinemonde in the EC I have a slightly respectable lure collection. So guys reccommend your top 5 lures for surf and top 5 for rivers/estuaries. With everyones reccommendations I am sure I can put together a decent set

Hi

Rivers : palepink chizel nose 1 0z [they use to be freely available in PE a time ago made by  Predator i never go anywhere without them , and if I would chooe only one this will be it  ] :grk:

Minnow lures all of them are deadly.
white chizel nose

1 0z bucktail . Kob and Leeries

4/5 inch paddletails  Kob

Zaraspooks /chugbugs  :grk:

For the surf , i dont have plenty experiance with diffrent lures ,altough i have found Havocs to be deadly , and they are cheap and also locally made [local is lekker ] Kob love them !

Other guys have told me , olive bucktails 2/3 oz

Bradley I see you are going in the same direction as I am. Go get yourself the DVD's from the Alcock brothers where they are fishing the Transkei estuaries. You will get a good idea of what you must get and what to look out for. First thing you must get is the Halco sourcerer. I think its the shrimp calour and work your way up from their.

Strike pro also have a nice range of lure at a fraction of the cost. I will take aphoto of the lure that I got and post for you to see .

Two Strike Pro's. Diff. size but same colour. One upside down so you can see the top and bottom.

I'm glad to see somebody else also know the value of a strike pro, I just love them, new waters unknown, the slightly darker green (fire tiger patern) from strike pro is the first lure i cast into that water.  And the best part of these lures are THEY WORK !!!
When I die, will somebody please dress up as the Grim Reaper and attend, don't need to do or say anything, just stand there!

Lenny they will be used in the rivers. Only used  them in the bay to thus far. I am still new to this game and have plenty more to learn. And I am only spinning with them.

Nice to hear Brad... For EC Estuaries these are must have lures and colours:

Halco Sorcerer 90 Red and White, great trolling and casting lure for Skipjack, Kob and Leeries...

Halco Sorcerer 52 Jelly Prawn, immitates a swimming prawn with action and colour, anything will take this lure from Stumpies and Snapper to Kob and Leeries...

Halco Laser Pro 45 Yellowfin Tuna, a great lure to target smaller juvenile fish with, they cant leave it alone...

Halco Laser Pro 120 chrome pink, great trolling lure for Kob and Skipjack...

Halco Roosta Popper 80 red and white or Fluoro green, never landed any fish on this lure but have had some awesome smashes and the teeth marks to prove it!

Halco Sorcerer 68 firetiger, KOB KILLER!!!!!!

As you can see I have recommended Halcos used to have an online tackle shop so I got a lot of free samples when I bought stock and tested them all out would never fish with a Rapala again! Mias woodmead has the best stock of these lures...

Halco Twisty spoon 15 grams is a must have for the estuaries, will pick up Kob, Flathead and other species...

Also 1 and 2 ounce chizel nose plugs for the surf and river mouths, also the estuaries... The Leeries smash them!!!

Mentioning the Halco lures, I was given two of these about two years ago from another Lanie and all and all, and he used them in the salt some time back, I have never used them and will generously donate them (as I'm never going to use them) to the first PM I get containing a postal address. All I ask in return is the postage to be paid by whoever gets them.

Give me some time for pics, gotta go look for them in the Weasel-worx first, and that is going to be some mission.  But nonetheless if memory serves me well, the one is a chrome popper type with a red head, I think. Anyhows who ever is interested, PM me.

WK beat HP by mere minutes, sorry Half Pint, but I gotta keep true to my word and give Walkers the first opt, if he doesn't want them anymore, then U'r next in lineand you might stand a very good chance, specially since I see he refuses free lures, the original ABU toby (just kidding WK) but seriously now, I feel kinda bad for your part so here's a deal once I finish the two (2) saltwater poppers I've started some time back, You (Half-Pint) can have them, will also try and post pics of those perhaps still this week.
