after a very slow season for team 4play we did some fixing on the outrigger position and increased the spread area

Sunday I took a ride (at 6:00) on Yolanda to Santa Maria and we launched from there (7:45) with 4play
team Yolanda automatically put a challenge for the day...Clube Maritimo rules until 13:00...we accepted the challenge...winner boat gets a bottle of 18y Chivas

we wanted to explore the area in front of Santa Maria...during holyday season both 4play and Yolanda (among other boats) will fish that area
by 8:20 we had our fisrt hook up...big run towards the back with some aerials...but fish got away...luckily for us as when we were setting up the spread we noticed that the ti50 reel was making some crazy noise inside...like broken or damaged bearings
we called Yolanda to borrow a reel from them
on the way there we came across with a marlin free swimming at the surface...and another free jumping
a bit later another marlin free jumping and we went towards his way...not long after another strike and a long non stop run towards the back
that's when he started jumping no more then 30mts on the side of the boat trying to overtake us....and ended up overtaking us
again...hook came off
2-0
at this time Yolanda called a release of a marlin...argh...a bottle store visit was in sight for us

we kept working the same area and at about 12:20 another strike and a long run...some aerial shows and after hook up Stephano sat on the chair for the third time
after a short fight we then safely released it with a ocean swim (son and father)
apart from 2 more free jumping and 1 more free swimming marlin sightings at 13:00 we called Yolanda as the winners
we did try some fun spinning for tuna but only 2 strikes with no hook up
by 16:15 Yolanda was back in Maputo

although 4play lost the challenge we were happy with the spread and the fact that we got back to marlin fishing...the change we did on the outriggers increased the strike rate drastically...we were very happy with that
beautiful day at sea with no wind and water temp about 27.6ºc...awesome water color

I know Ricardo(matabixo) has something to say about his outing on Saturday...but I guess you guys have to wait for his report

Saturday took place first off shore tournament for 2015
basically Clube Maritimo changed the concept of the competition for the first semester...there will be 4 isolated competition (Jan, Feb, Mar and May) where winner of each comp takes all the prize money
competition will then start in October straight (7 legs) without any interruption untill May

launch was at 5:00 and we headed straight to the 330mt mark where we set lines at 6:10
very smooth ride with flat seas and no wind...beautiful blue with temps on the 27,5º
...no more then 5min after we set lines we saw the dorie coming...striking and not committing to the hook...that's fishing

we kept working that same area and managed to get 3 dories (+15kg, ~5kg and 7/8kg)
no more action for the day from 9:00...we got to the club at 16:45

from the rest of fleet all quiet except for 4 boats
sholay released 3 marlin (winner)
yolanda, salvatore and spartan released each 2 marlin
yellow king not attending the comp did not release a small marlin

yesterday I've decided to launch Maguro...first time of the year...
been too busy and travelling...and weather also didn't play on our side so with a great forecast for the weekend we (João a mate from work, and rcoliveira) met at 5:30 and launch before 6:00
initial plan was to head north for the cuta grounds but we heard some tuna coming out in boia perdida so we change our plan...
smooth ride on the way there(with flat seas and no wind) and before 7:00 we set the lines out...4 rappies and 1 daisy chain on the shotgun...
we saw some birds and tuna smacking at the surface but no takers so after a while only on the isolated birds we started getting strikes
all on the deep divers and the daisy chain
we kept working the area and eventually headed out towards poco
we kept having some strikes but fish was being too tricky...apart from a strike on a illander we had no strike at surface lures (not counting on the daisy chains)
rcoliveira had plenty fun with the jigging rod and daisy chains...
all went well apart from another gift to Neptune...
in less than 6 months it's the second time this has occurred
first time my fault...no rod leash caused the loss of the tld25 kit
this time even with the rod leash after a strike tyrnos 30 kit went for a swim...I guess plastic clips are not a good option to secure your gear
this was the call to head back to Portuguese Island for a swim
at this time the S was pumping...weatherman said S would slow down and some E would come later in the early afternoon...but this only happened later
by 15:00 we left Portuguese Island and wind the E on our back we got to Maputo smoothly
nice day out in good company...and plenty fish for the pot (although with the amount of fish we saw I can say that fish were too picky)
top blue water with 27,5ºc temp...and very very humid

sorry for not reporting this to you...my fault...and sorry for not taking any pic...we were only 3 aboard and it's not easy when there's a dorie coming in
we always want to load it into the hatch to avoid the slaps
