sorry for not reporting this to you...my fault...and sorry for not taking any pic...we were only 3 aboard and it's not easy when there's a dorie coming in
we always want to load it into the hatch to avoid the slaps

hard way to start the working day

rcoliveira has been going on this solo outings before work...with nice catches
today I join him (together with his mate Joao) for a early morning outing...we met at 4:30 and by 5:00 we were on our way to a closer spot after Xefina...some 7nm from Maputo
we worked the area for a while with no success...then we headed towards the 3M bonnies that we saw smashing at the surface also with no success
getting to Bx Ribeiro again we had our first strike which resulted on Joao getting his first reefing experience...fish literally went towards the lighthouse and rubbed the mono against it leaving us with a scratched line
we took lines out and start heading towards Maputo (I needed to be back by 8:30 as I had some meetings ahead)
we some activity on the way and started spinning with no success...we set lines again and soon after we were 2 on :sreel: :sreel:
we decided that today was Joao and only Joao's turn on the reels...he never caught a fish before
we started guiding him on the fight while rcoliveira was managing the other line...and not long after another reefing experience...opsss
rcoliveira handed him the other rod and he fought the fish for quite a while...with the fish being very stubborn but Joao ended up being the stubborn of the day and after a nice fight we managed to land a beauty  :gt:
we took some pics...measure it with the scratched line (106cm) and safely released it...what a beauty to see him swimming away

not bad for a first timer hein!!!

ah...while Joao was fighting the fish I have spent some time spinning as the area was wild with mr. GT's family and friends but again...no luck...luckily for us as we didn't want another problem aboard

now we are all at the office...with a smile for this nice start of the day

I've planned to launch Saturday morning for a fishing day with a mate from work...at wake up time (4:30) heavy rain was dropping over Maputo so we postponed for later (07:00)...and later was raining
so we canceled the fishing outing as we also planned for a beach outing for Sunday with the ladies
so by 7:00 on Sunday we met and after setting all at 7:45 we were on our way to Santa Maria
plan was to cross Hell's Gate and go out for a quick session and show Joćo's wife the deep blue...then head back to the beach for some relaxing time
getting to the marine reserve I felt a power cut on the starboard engine and seconds after the heat buzzer beeped and some smoke was coming out...reason...a plastic bag attached to the impeller intake...
turned the engine off...removed the plastic and after a few seconds cooling down...turned the engine on again (beep was still on) but after some water going in turned off
so by 09:30 I headed towards the mouth and after the set coming trough I crossed the mouth and set lines
getting to Baixo de Santa Maria we saw some bird activity but with no fish activity in sight...but on the first go we were on and after a nice fight we landed a 6/7kg bonito
I don't know whats going on with this bonitos but they been eating spinach like Popeye...long runs and though fights
we worked the area for a while but it was quiet so we headed a bit further North and got a double strike...landed a skipjack and a small YFT
Joćo's wife was not feeling that great so we headed to the beach
it was a nice less then 2h session with the ladies aboard...
calm seas and beautiful sunny day...we relaxed at the Inhaca marine reserve and by 14:30 we start heading back to Maputo with the E blowing but not making it a rough trip

Also went out this weekend...

We launched on Saturday... the Pereira clan was on board for a relaxed family session. Left the club at 06:30 and made our way to B1 under showers which lasted till 09:00.... miserable drive... Water temp was between 25.4 and 26.9o C, with a bit of a bumpy sea early in the morning that eventually flatenned throughout the day...

We trolling for a bit and managed to get 2 couta on rappies... lost two and then got some bottoms for the pot...

Did a bit more trolling and loss a foul-hooked couta at the boat, then got a nice bonito...

All in all, a great day at sea with my dad and bruder, and some nice fresh fish for supper...

The  :suz: are well beyond my expectations... consumption of 1.16 L/nm and at 3500 rpm I get a cruise speed of 18 knots...

Very happy!

Also went fishing this weekend.
Saturday around 10ish left St Maria, heading to Baixo for a bit of trolling.
Had a small strike 20 min after.
Very quiet. for the next hour so we decided to move around a little. Further north we saw some seagulls and after going pass it we had a 4 rod strike.. with 6 rods in total in the water and 2 guys on the boat, was enough to cause a small panic on board haha :creep: . Started pulling the Saltiga that was the strongest line on the boat. Crazy pulling to the deep even seemed like i was jigging. Great fight but ended quickly with a broken leader  while my mate was pulling the Pen int 6/0 that was on the shotgun. So i grabbed the second rod and tried to pull as quickly has possible because i still had one more rod with fish one.. Managed to pull a good 10kg bonito. My mate is still in the same rod and i grab the 4 fish and the line was almost at the end and i couldnt stop the beast. Big fish was on.. while the line was coming to and end, turned the boat around to fallow the fish but it quickly snapped the line when it got a bit luce.  :vio :toppie:
Continued trolling and on the next pass over the seaguls a double strike was on. Managed to pull too to small YFT, around 3 kg each. And that was it for the day. We left back it was 12:30
_____

Next morning we go around 7 again to the Baixo St Maria, and we decided we where going to put some sardines on balloons..
first run nothing, has the tide was slow but the wind was pulling us fast.
Second round over the Baixo has i am releasing the line i start getting a pull, but i was confused thinking the balloon was making that until a see a dourado jump right in front of us. managed to pull quickly a 5kg dourado.
A few more tries on the sardine and nothing so we decided to troll.
30 min we see a shoal activity on top of the water, no seagulls, we go past and one rod starts singing high.. crazy stutter sound on my tyrnos 20.. managed to pull a +/- 13 kg Wahoo, with a few lines crossings but nothing serious. While we gaffing we see 10m down what it seams to be a nice dourado so we start trolling again straight away (not remembering i still had the sardines on the other rod  <: swr )
We go passed again the same shoal and another rod is one with a nice 5kg mackarel. that destroied my new bonito 30 rapala.
After a few more rounds, peterblace appears on the horizon, and straight i see that light blue shirt heading to the back of the boat and grabbing the rod, i knew fish was one  :fshn:
Then the rod next to me bends and before and sings the lines snaps in less then a seconds.. rapala with no leader was gone. And right after that a see the left rod bending and sings a little and i see the halco fly out the water with a quick release   :rain:

And that was it for the day. Lovely weather both days.

@rcoliveira84, were you at Portugese Island while we were on The Birthday Bash? There was a Yeld not too far from us with a lady on board and a black dog playing in the water. If so, the 3 boats that were there (Fishin for Reel, Hammered and Seaducer 3) would have liked to have met you. If it was you, I greeted you and your missus when you walked passed us

This coming sunday (19 April), the 1st Pirates Offshore Gathering, will take place in Maputo bay. 8 boats have confirmed, with a total of 29 anglers. This is a fishing-for-fun day, where all boats are supposed to depart together and fish the same area (B1).

No prizes, apart from bragging rights to the boat who catches the biggest fish (no bills!)...

At the end of the day, the gang will meet at the club's restaurant and a fresh fish braai will be served with chips and salads, courtesy of the restaurant. The restaurant will also sponsor tshirts for the event...

UA boats include Maximvs, maguro and matabixo...

Looking forward to this event...
