Locked & loaded for tomorrow... peterblace will join us on MAXIMVS... We'll be targeting mainly couta with rappies and drift baits, but will also throw some poppers and stick baits...

Weather is supposed to be excellent with flat seas and high temps... Hopefully will be reporting some nice catches

The billfish run is on fire. Chakra went 3-8 bills today on the +500m mark (for our standards that's VERY far! At least 120-150 nm round trip).

They managed a grand slam with a nice black, blue and a stripey!!!

:tkx: Super chatting to you yesterday. Thanks for the dates Marcos. I will certainly try to fish in some comps. Still need to register with the Port Captain and then join either Naval or Maritimo. Will keep you posted. I also packed my lures in those pipes that you suggested. No more hooks and bloody fingers.
If things don't change, they remain the same.

yesterday took place first leg of Clube Maritimo competition
has mentioned by JohnF competition was postoned from Saturday due to better weather conditions on Sunday...if anyone know where I can meet this weatherman let me know..cause I need to speack to him very closely!!!  (bat

at 5:30 wind was pumping and we had a SE blowing...so another bumpy and wet ride to get to fishing grounds
our plan was to work B24, B45 and Liberty2 area...and we stuck to the plan

day started with (again) my generous contribution to Neptune...on the first strike line snapped and another rappie went...so I'm keepping my ratio very stable at 1 outing/1 lure lost
(will sort out this week with line replacing on all reels)

I also had another strike but the fish didn't commit well to the hook

in total I had 1 skipjack, 1 & 3/4 YFT (the remaining 1/4 are in somefish tummy) and 1 bonito...and my first lost marlin aboard Maguro...yah...I had a marlin in line...I grabbed the rod and start fighting it but unfortunately and due to lack of experience we cut the engines too much and the moment we did it the marlin got away

B24 was full of activity with marlin free jumping and sailfish chasing garfish...and crossing the lines without even looking and my yummy lures

Maximvs had 2 strikes the all day...a lot of boats with nearly no strikes/fish...maybe a sign that everyone is chasing billfish

Cafufo released 2 marlin
Mozaya released 1 marlin
Oliver released 1 marlin
Dan Dan released 1 marlin
Nakisai released 1 marlin
Yolanda released 1 marlin
Fourplay released 1 sailfish

Yeap peterblace summed it up... both of us need to speak to this weatherman... been a while since I've had such terrible sea! Upside down and large swells coming from all directions! Maputo bay at its worst! Eventually it calmed down (got better the deeper we went)... water temp was 25.8o C in the morning and went up to 26.6o C in the afternoon... water was clean, clean... no bait shoals and very few birds...

Anyway, as peter said we kept to the plan. Did a bit of trolling for "edibles" but as it was quiet we changed to the big guns and went deep (+400). Tried lot's of tricks but nothing. Best we had was a curious marlin that came up at about 45o of our stern, looked at our lures with it's bill and head completely out of the water and went down again!!!!

Had two strikes (shotgun and long rigger) but nothing... I guess, in both occasions, small dorries were the culprits. Quite a few were caught in the area and no visible marks in the leaders or lures...

We kept trying for the big boys and only got back when we really needed to (time was up and fuel was over)!

Oh well... as always, a few lessons were learned and I now know exactly were they live... Next comp is in 15 days and (hopefully) a different report will be posted!

Oba Oba went deep today (round trip of 93 nm!) looking for some action. Sea was too flat, they said. Came back with a nice bull dorrie (14 kg) and a skipjack. Also 2 strong pulls but couldn't tell what was it.

Obviously, I offered to fillet the dorrie and while at it I snatched some nice strip baits for the next comp!!! Heheheh

All systems GO for team Maximvs. Fuel and tackle is sorted. Going back to basics with regards to tackle and tactics. No experimenting or funny stuff on this trip. No more playing around with "edibles" and small lures.

Will spend the whole day out in the deep (+400 m) looking for those pointy ones with Big Ts, Bonito smokers, Iland express and co. 4 teasers. Anything smaller than 10 kg will be rigged with a 20/0 circle!

Go big or stay home!!!

Missing one crew but 3 should be enough.

Weatherman promises a super day.

Fingers crossed!!!
