Homes I will be fishing venue P on Thursday. You are more than welcome to join me.
You will have to pm me your cell no so that I can send you the co-ordinates of the gate to the venue.  w;k
If we caught fish on every trip, it would be called " Catching". We don't, and that's why it's called "Fishing".

Precisely Kallie. Got a SMS from the Jo'burg woosies early this morning that they were bailing out.
So of I went to venue P on my lonesome. The trip there was fun with the dirt road being a ladies mud wrestling bath. :hehe:
The 10 k's of dirt took me about 15 minutes, going side ways more often than not. :happ:

Rigged up and went fishing under cloudy skies and a cold upstream wind. I fished my favourite spot as well as Pieter's and in 3 hours of fishing managed to foul hook and loose a muddie. :dunno:

I then tried the bass pond, but even though I had follows with open mouths they would not take any of the 8 different flies I presented. :cnfzd

Finally called it a day at around 13:00 and drove home on much drier, but less fun dirt road.  :-(

Another brilliant day on the Vaal. :happ: :happ:

WARNING!!!!!!!! VAAL DAM OPENS SLUICES' :shk  :shk

Guys and Gals, I have just checked the DWA site, the release from the Vaal Dam is
100+ tons, which means that they have opened at least 2 sluices.
The Barrage is already under pressure with the Klip, Suikerbos and others pouring in over 200 tons.  :shk

Choose your weekend fishing spots VERY CAREFULLY. !!!!!!

Kallie, the latest reading from Schoemansdrif was 49 tons. I have not been able to see the barrage release for over a week now. ( Maybe Rand Water has gone on leave  :dunno:). The last Goosebay reading was on the 6th Dec, so maybe the meter is crocked from the last high flows.

My advice is phone Elgro and ask them what is happening ito flows, before leaving. They have a better idea of what's happening on that stretch of the river.

I will be fishing the Italian's tomorrow. Everyone mad enough is welcome. :craz: :hnthnt:

Homes just watch the flows. I see the Goose Bay meter is working again and Rand Water have updated the reservoir site.

Currently Goose Bay around 220 tons, Barrage at 07:00 , 227 tons, Schoemans 174 tons.

Fished the Italian's yesterday. Flows were at 120 tons as expected.
The barbell were there in the same spot, but this time I came prepared. 8/9 Stealth, with matching reel, 40 lb leader, popper head and the right plattie flies.  :hnthnt:
Got the first one after 15 minutes, and the second 10 minutes later. w;k
This was much to the consternation of the young bait angler who had been trying to catch them for over an hour and a half. :dunno: All he had was mielie pips, so I suggested he go find some crickets, or a crab.
The barbell then went down so I changed rigs and went searching for yellows. On entering the water another f/f got a beut of a yellow around 2 - 2.5 kg.
I managed a moggel, and then lost my braided loop, leader and flies to something that not even the Scott's tip could protect. :shk
Went back to the car, and saw the youngster mentioned earlier landing a size barbell, caught on a cricket that he had caught. :clwn :clwn
Another brilliant morning on the Vaal. :-)

With the flows being the way they are, I had to fish the Italian's again yesterday.
Although they had closed the one sluice that was open, they had opened 8 river valves which left the flows at around 85 tons which even though lower than the previous 120 was enough to discourage  me from trying to cross the main run.
The barbell were missing from their normal spot of the last few visits, so I rigged up my trusty Scott and went looking for gold.
I was pleasantly rewarded with 2 beautifully coloured and conditioned sm yellows of around 1.5 to 2 kg each. :happ:

I then lost my whole leader ( again  swr <: :dunno:) so decided to call it a day and go and have a brunch at the Croc Ranch Restuarant and PUB. :hnthnt:

I will be fishing again on Monday, venue to be decided tomorrow afternoon, dependant on the flows. Anyone keen to join me ???  w;k
