I went fishing near Ben Jo Saturday for a morning session with my brother-in-law. The fishing was really hard and we struggled to connect. I did manage a 1.8kg, 600g and a small 10cm yellow. I got broken off by a monster on the strike aswell. I need to tie some flies again. After Christiana and this Saturday I am seriously depleted. Will post picks as soon as I get them from the camera.

Thanks guys.

@Garrick The big one was in very good condition but the smaller one was not that good. If you look in front of the dorsal it looks like a cormorant had a go on it and it was extremely thin.

@Rory I think we need to discuss your tactics at VT on Friday. :clwn :frid

Pieter, ( ICStuff ) and I spent the morning at GVP. Arrived nice and early to overcast skies and windless . Soon had the boat inflated, rigged up and off we went.
The river was very low and made rowing upstream very interesting :-) Visibility was around 40cm, and water temp around 20 -22.

The muddies were there in force and taking mostly either a black or olive nymph. Pieter got into a few good fish, but just could not get them into the net. :dunno:

At about 10:00 we moved down to the muddie hole, and it was almost cast for cast and Pieter was ON. He landed not only his first ever fish on fly, but another 2 after that, and a third which was everything but landed. :happ: :happ:

Our tally for 4 hours fishing, Pieter hooked 12, ( including a SM ) landed 3.
Myself, hooked 14, landed 9. ( All muddies ).

I'm sure Pieter will forgive me for posting the pics. w;k

If we caught fish on every trip, it would be called " Catching". We don't, and that's why it's called "Fishing".

Thanks Craig. Bill is recovering fairly well, but speaking to Bill Jnr. the old man looks better than what he actually is.
Hearing what actually happened makes one GRILLL, barbarious is the only word I can find to desribe it. :unhap :unhap :unhap
The old bugger is tough though, a lot of younger men would  not have survived 45 minutes of being mauled and stillfight back. :resp:

Thank you herman for a wonderful morning on the water. Have never had the pleasure for losing 9 fish in a row, while seeing herman vas almost all the time. The only sad part was that the only yellows we saw was the one I lost, and another that was caught by another angler. The muddies where all fat and in very good condition.

Rory I hope all went well with the outlaws

The strength of this mornings babalaas is in direct proportion to the ammount of personality I had to drink into them...

Well done on some pretty good muddies!

Did you guys try the top rapids or just stick to the muddy hole?

We fished all over and the only thing we hooked was muddies, it was as if the whole place was a muddie hole. We fished the last 30min at the muddie hole. At times you could see schools of them in the rapids.

Came back yesterday from a trip at the Vaal Dam. Stopped at the River in Three-Rivers to meet up with some friends fishing there. They only managed three carp between about 8 rods. All caught during the morning. I even tried baiting up one rod but didn't catch anything. Its been like this since end of winter. Very strange indeed as we ussually catch a lot of nice fish there.

Andrew I went right up the top into the white water and back, ( with a decent Herman drift of about 10 metres   ) and no sm, just muddies, everywhere. :shk
I did spook a yellow or 3 while wading, but they were definately where one would expect to find them.
Next time in that water it's single nymph, pocket water, Czech/Polish./French/Hermantor nymphing.
