One thing about Richards Bay is that you better be prepared to fish in wind and tough conditions or stay home. If this place had the weather some places have it would be silly how good it would be. Constant south winds battering the current make it incredibly hard and changes the water daily. Anyway the fish always eat in the south if you can stay out and so it was again today with all the boats out getting fish.We released a blue that made a spectacular bite after I marked it coming up on the echo and everyone was looking out and waiting for the bite which came immediately. Rampage and another two boats got two while we missed another two in the rough conditions. All good and looking forward to getting out tomorrow on a better forecast.

Had a slower day yesterday as the sea settled and the south dropped. Some Dorado action before going tight on a half beak swim bait with circle....was so good to get a Blue bite on the rig and started celebrating a solid hookup...the 400lb Blue sat until 50m from the boat when it did a jump and spat the hook.....mmm been like that with them. Turned back to the mark and immediately went tight on a Stripe so all good. Slow afternoon with only Dorry action. Few days break with buster south AGAIN today back out when its nice again....compliments of the season to all!!

Awesome day out yesterday with all boats getting into fish over the whole area. Dropped 3 fish early on, one being the best fish I have seen this season. Finally held onto one mid day as the bite came back on with all the boats in our area going tight. One boat had a triple on Blues but unfortunately only boated one. We also released a small Blue shallow on the way home so all in all a good day with two Blue releases. Rampage got two, Reel Magic one, Squid lips one , Addicted one and a number of others had one release. Weather shitty today or would have been out there for sure. Waiting for a gap....Bite is ON!!!!

12 Jan

Had to work far north again looking for water and ended up past Mapelane in 27 c water but unfortunately still off colour. Very good water further north but out of range. Managed a small Black in 600m and then moved to the inside looking for another black on the 100m line on the way home.
Reel Magic stayed out deep all day and didnt raise anything so the Blues are definitely missing in these poor water conditions.
Got extremely lucky at the death out front in 150m tagging another very fiesty little Black of 50 kg that gave Deon a proper hiding boat side. Had a good laugh at his expense as he got tatoo'ed for his trouble. Always the little ones that get you...
Some hard N E wind expected the next few days and hoping they will chase this current down at last. Been a funny season with counter current and very patchy water.
Tally now 21 for 21 days so not bad. Hopefully get Wave Walker up and running in the next week and do a few test runs if water improves. Till then...

Have had a lot of strong N E the last few days so unable to fish but great news as the current is now pushing down hard. Latest SST map unavailable but this was two days ago...Going to be an interesting next two weeks as we go onto the moon. Think the action is going to come thick and fast especially with good Blue marlin action up north the last few days....bring it on!

Going to blow a bugle on the page today just to put some things in perspective.
We have many charter inquiries through the year and most people gag at the price of a days fishing. Unfortunately most people don't have a clue how much it costs to run these big outfits and the time and effort that goes into making a successful charter day on Marlin. For the record we are at about half the international rate to begin with.

That said we have raised a over 60 marlin, raising one on every charter this year, catching 21 fish in 21 days fishing and missed a landing on only one charter.
That's more than a 90% success rate on MARLIN!!!
That is unbelievable by any world standard.

Here's one clients response to a days fishing with us:

Hi Trevor,

Thanks for an awesome day yesterday, it was a pleasure to go fishing with you!
I would also like to compliment you on the way you handled the clients and boat. With some inexperienced fishermen on board you ensured that they did not embarrass themselves by assisting with landing the fish through some excellent skippering. Your knowledge and experience can be seen by someone that is a certified boat skipper and has some fishing knowledge, but nowhere near yours. Yours can only come through the clearly seen love for fishing and hours and hours of honing your craft into the complete package you so effortlessly present. Well done to you!

And that is exactly why I love doing this sport and give 100% every day out there.
There is no guarantee on catching a marlin every day and having that expectation is totally unrealistic for marlin fishing anywhere in the world.

The bottom line as they say: You get what you pay for !!

Many thanks to all who fished with us in 2017, looking forward to a cracker 2018.

Trevor, I second your thoughts even considering I'm not in the charter business.... people HAVE NO idea how much it costs to keep a boat... never mind professionally!

Great results and keep up the good work! (clap)

Oh and yes we released a massive blue on Reel Magic two days ago and yesterdays report as follows'

Nother Blue again today on a rather slow day but to be expected with a massive cyclone swell running. Couple of nice Dorado to go with the blue. First ever day on the ocean and fishing for Christo and he gets both a blue and a dorry. Be some envious friends out there.. Water purple and good current - looking good for the next few weeks and the full moon coming soon.

Awesome fishing and I take my hat off to you and the other professional charters..the most expensive charters in this country are still good value and much cheaper options than owning and maintaining your own big boat to go to the deep with..I can just guess at your fuel bill, must be astronomical! Then crew, gillies, your berth must cost a pretty penny, oh ja then those million rand boats..I take my hat off to you guys and hope to support when I can.. To put it into perspective, to go on a charter with three of your mates to go and catch tuna, is a cheaper way to get your meat than to go to pick and pay, and little :yft: :yft: :yft: :yft: :fshn: :fshn: :fshn: :fshn: more fun! Those who say you and the other pro's are more expensive are living the false economy, to their own loss, heres to living the dream!

Quick trip back to R Bay to fish with good friend Deon Auby and what a great weekend we had. Caught a blue every day(450,400,350) making it 26 for the season going 3-3 with 100% hookup and reaching no 300 for RMC at the same time. Always easier when you see the good water is there and you go when you have a good idea it will be on and the weather is great. Richards Bay is a world class fishery for sure! :fshn: :fshn: :fshn: :fshn: :fshn:
