Title: Reel Magic Charters Action and Updates!
Post by: Reel Magic Charters on September 20, 2013, 10:02:24 am
The first black marlin was landed in Richards Bay for the 2013 season by old friend Takkie Foure on the boat Tycoon. Nice early start and much more to come!We will be running Big Sea Hunter this summer as the other boat is on the market and is not available so its business as usual but on a bigger newer machine. Looking forward to the 2013 Season!

The guys have been getting blacks pretty much through out the season at sodwana, mostly on cuda baits, but it goes to show there is an all year season if we fish for them a bit differently. I see Jannie Nel got one as wl this week on a Rapala.

He will be out with the guys again tomorrow weather permitting... watch this space. Now I really cant wait to get up there! Will post the pics when I get them! :billf:

Awesome action today off Richards Bay. Skippered Baluga for Dale Leenstra looking for a record blue on 10 kg/20lb line and dropped a 450lb Blue that ran us off after hitting the after burners even though the drag was backed off to a kilo. Tough catching these big fish on light tackle. Released another blue of 80 kg soon after and then had a stripey climb over the lures repeatedly and somehow not hook up properly - Their way! Two nice Dorado for the pot too!
Pity this weather is crappy for the next few days...THE GAME IS ON!
Title: Re: Reel Magic Charters Action and Updates 2013!

This weather has got to give us a break before we break ourselves or a boat - fishing all day in this crud is no fun. Still we had a double Dorado smash which was reduced to a single when a nice blue clubbed the one off the lure and the other unhitched itself in the panic. Released a short bill and raised another that didnt commit. Will be committed soon if we continue fishing in these conditions! Still another bill for the day.  :billf:
No decent pics to post

Was a bad day to miss out on yesterday :-( :unhap :unhap - some good fish were raised and plenty stripes. Lady Els got a blue and had four stripe attacks but no hook up. Weather no good today hoping to get a morning in tomorrow!

Squeezed a day in between this ridiculous weather and landed a nice big Dorado again and missed a stripey that was in and out so quick we couldnt get the pitch Bait back to him in time. These arn't the big lure gobbling stripeys of NZ,  these are the cape flats versions with cap on backwards and pants around the ankles - take your wallet without u knowing it kind! So much frustration at moment with wind and pouring rain forecast to continue into mid next week - just not summer!  :dislike:

Squeezed another day in 4-5m swell and 15-20 knots SW! Jeez I envy the guys fishing in calm seas in the tropics you need hair on your chest to fish this coast, think only the Aussies deal with this scenario. Anyway all good as we has a knock down , marked and worked the area and got hooked up on a nice blue of 400lb which was sent swimming after a good fight. Nice to on the sea and to report even though it was real hard going. Guess what another front just hit and its pouring and blowing...mmmm but we will be up and looking to go at 4am - just need a stiff shot to ease the bruising - check Dales tats and the sign left! ha ha

Super tough day on the ocean with 6-8 meter swell running and fortunately only 15 knots South or it would have been suicidal. Got a nice dorry on the way to the ledge followed by some small tuna and then went tight on a good blue early on. Launched late due to the rain and wind but the bashing was worth it in the end. Dropped another blue this afternoon but no worries as the the first had made our day. Hope I never have to fish another three days like this in a row for a long time. Dale and I are finished!

Had a cracker day yesterday releasing 3 fish for the day. First decent day as far as the ocean was concerned, no swell moderate NE all that was missing was the sun. See we have more rain forecast or the next few days. Cant imagine what the fishing will be like if we get the same conditions and some sunlight.. new client arriving tomorrow and the ocean awaits....
Pictures soon!!! :fshn: :billf: :fshn: :billf: :fshn: :billf: :rain: :rain: :corrct:

Had a day of missed opportunities yesterday but he wheel turns fortunately and we had the action today. Found some good fish on the inside and had a good blue on early this morning, gave an awesome show, unfortunately pulled hooks well into the fight. Hooked and released a 400lb black and had a window shopping blue in the spread soon after. Some Dorado action in between too - great day on a hot sunny flat sea -BONUS! :billf: :billf: :billf:

Another great day at sea with Dale on Baluga on 20lb line. Released a stripe that was a junior record but deemed not big enough to cull. Going 1-3 on the critters and missed a nice fish on the shotgun, not sure if black or blue. All boats getting action and better weather the next 3 days so hopefully a record or two. Pics when we get a chance!

Another SA Junior record for Dale Leenstra with Mr RMC off Baluga! Have so much to report on but the body is nackered. Lost a very nice fish this morning and connected again this afternoon landing a black that tail wrapped and died. Had to dead lift it in rough sea on 20lb from 180m down in strong current - not do able normally but somehow we got it done. Wasnt the size we were looking for but its a lot bigger than previous record so for now it will do!

What a classic end to 2013! Went out for the last day of the year and an overnight broadbill trip that had us releasing what I am sure were the last fish in SA for 2013 released at 4.45 and 5.30 pm. Had a bumpy night without success and dropped the first marlin of 2014 before the sun had peeped over the horizon. Released one later probably the second caught in 2014 as we were pipped to the post by Cracker Man. Ended the day somewhat exhausted but with 3 tags and a great start to 2014. Happy New Year everybody! ps awesome sight of all the flares from out on the ocean - very different!

Another great day on the water with sunshine and flat seas.
Had a very sad radio message after releasing a nice stripey that free jumped a way  off to show us her position, turned and followed and hooked up - sure she was waving my good friend and mentor Takkie Fourie goodbye. He passed away suddenly today and he will be remembered with every fish I catch from now onwards. Thank you my friend for introducing me to this great sport and for being the man you were. For the countless days of happiness we shared on the water - you will be sorely missed.
To Tina, Daniell, Salomy and Karen my deepest condolences.
RIP my friend!

Missing a nice day on the ocean today but when you fall asleep twice while standing in the tower i think its time for a rest. Day nighter coming up so the sleep is welcome. Its been a great run the last two weeks with the fish popping up in different locations every day and coming on for just an hour or so. If you were not in the right area you missed out. Strange season. Water temp jumped two degrees yesterday from 26 - 28 degrees C so we will have to see how these fish react in the next week or so.
Doing a trip overnight to the Vidal canyon to try for a broadbill, hope we get some action, its been a long time coming so lets hope it happens. Haven't fished there so the trip up should be interesting.  w;k

Phew Dale came home with some horror story about being cleaned up on 20lb by a 250kg Blue - nice to see the guys see the funny side. Hes busy spooling up for another go tomorrow. Big fish fought for 5 hrs today so it looks like the fat blues have arrived. Will be out the next three days and a night - gonna be dog tired at the end but chomping to get out again! Stand by!!

Ok only lasted two days and a night which wasn"t as peachy as forecast but turned out better by daytime. Dropped a stripe and a nice blue on the straight line to Vidal Canyon against a ripping current. Was forced to run the last bit to make it before dark but struck out on the BB's but went 4-4 on the hammers. Released a nice 400lb blue at 7am today and swore blue murder at another 3 stripes that did the jump off trick again today. Think the long liners have finished our BB fishing for good!
Luckily our marlin are still around but not sure for how much longer! Be out again tomorrow. Tight lines!

Rest day at last and not a moment to soon, body tortured and mind in limp mode. Yesterday the current was the strongest I have ever experienced up here and was the slowest day of the season with only a sail for the fleet. The SE wind may be the Cape doctor but up here its the poison breeze and with the low from the cyclone east of us and green water from the counter current inshore, the big girls just switched off. Hope the guys have a better day today because its a peach.

Well like I said the fish are still out there. Pushed out through the rain on the small boat (Baluga) around 7am and found a nasty 4m swell and choppy heavy sea over the 100m. We were looking for a black record on 50lb and managed a good small yellowfin bait early.
Haven't felt well the past few days but feeling seasick was a first for me. Lucky it all passed as did the black that smashed the bait and must have been pricked by the hook when swallowing, hence throwing the bait immediately. Hook pulled after taking 100m of line. Wasn't the worst moment of the day as we got run off by a rather large blue shortly after on 50lb - too much loop and heavy sea leading to another bout of lost fish sickness!. Been doing this long enough but still cant stomach losing a good one!
To cap it off we had another knock down a half hour later - not a good day but sure proof the girls are out there!

Well its official, the real "Reel Magic" and the original lodge are again available to my clients and fishing crew with boats that would like stay and to spend time fishing out of Richards Bay. I will be meeting with the new owner next week to get things finalized.
I will also be offering my services to visiting fisherman to guide and tutor on their boats so that they can learn the area and get their equipment sorted so that they too can have greater success in their efforts to catch some fat ladies.

We will have a mooring available on the water and all the advice you will ever need and great accommodation to go with it -what more do you need!

So good being back on Reel Magic again and even with super warm water and action being slow, we managed to release another 350lb blue today and dropped a very nice fish in the 550lb range that threw the hooks after a good run. Business as usual on my favourite boat and the Durbs boys Nic and JJ have had 4 days with me this season and released four fish - stripe, black and two blues - thats why I recon we have one of the best fisheries in the world.

Great to be back on line after an awesome trip to Lobito Angola and fishing for the Kwanza Lodge Team.
There were over 514 sails released in 4 days of competition by 51 boats and makes this the best destinations for sails in Africa! I have not got stills of all our releases as it was necessary to have full video coverage of all releases for the comp. Have posted what I have on stills. Basically the stats for our stay was 33 releases from 5-12 March and noted as follows

12 Trevor Hansen
10 Carlos Moran
9 John henrick
2 Rico Sakko

Will be back in R Bay for a short stint next week before heading off to Gabon. Some big S-West forecast for the rest of the week hope it doesn't mess the water too much. Time for a fat one in the bay again and maybe a nice Yellow to ride!
ps no joke! :fshn: :corrct: :billf: :yft:

How long do the big YFT generally hang around for? Back in SA in May and wouldn't mind making a trip up north...

Its my opinion that they hang around into June/July but the weather is a big problem and nobody targets them then. Theres no charter work then so Im back home too. Think this is the best time (April to July ) for a grander but the same above weather is a problem.

Quick trip to R Bay on Sunday and rush to get boat done for Tuesday. Big westerly over the weekend was not good for the water.

My fears of the aftermath of the big south wester were well founded with the water being off colour even at 27 degrees. Tuesday delivered absolutely zero! Wednesday saw the water pushing in nicely but only in the shallows at this stage and slight drop in temp over the 200m line. caught some small tuna and Kawa's on small high before heading out for marlin. Landed a nice dorado on the 500 before going tight on a nice blue around 400lb that ran hard without jumping, then appeared right next to the boat as the line parted - not how it should go! No idea what happened here but in all likelihood it picked up its own line and disaster happened. I guess thats part of the game but not cool especially on the anglers birthday! Rest of day was uneventful.
Sorry Jan - next time!
Back home now and on to Gabon next week. Hopefully some good reports! :billf: :sailf:

Need to get back up there after Gabon!Nows the time fro a fish of a lifetime!!

Amazing reports of good Blues off Gabon at the moment with 3-3 on Akanda on Fri and another 3-7 on another boat on Saturday. Cant wait to get there next week and see how good the action is for myself. Will be fishing Akanda again with Olivier and hopefully beat the 4 in a day we did in early season in March. Its full season there now and it should be cracking!!

Quick trip to Gabon was great fun and although the fish did not come on as I had hoped we released 2 blues on the first day, had a quiet day the second and dropped and landed one on the third. 3-4 in 3 days would be great going in anyones books but I had definitely hoped for more after our trip in March.
Olivier has one of the best maintained rigs(Akanda - 43 ft Jannice)) I have ever fished on and it was an absolute pleasure fishing on her.
Theres talk of me returning to defend the title we won last November so maybe we will be back before the years up!
Will be going head to head with Olivier after teaching him all I can about thermocline etc - should be fun.
Some pics of the trip below

Sjou long lay off on reports - much surfing and gym work in between so fired up for the new season to kick off. Be back up in Gabon end next month for the Billfish Roundup off Libreville with my mate John Henrick. An all SA team on the deck of Agombinero this year and hopefully another top result. Hope the Ebola stays up north, thats one critter we definitely dont want to catch - hear its a difficult release!
Hopefully dodge that and then on to R bay for the summer which is looking up with a few marlin knocks reported and a stripey on the weekend.
Almost time.....

Great to see some early action off Richards Bay in between the poor weather experienced up there lately. First marlin have been released so things will only improve from now on with the warm water pushing down the coast. Will only be available in Richards Bay from mid November due to the Gabon trip coming up! Other good news is the return of the Billfish Classic to be hosted from the Richards Bay Ski Boat club from 25-28 FEB 2015. Will be available for charters for the comp again and looking forward to giving the fleet a run for their money again.

Had an awesome trip even though the fishing was not what it normally is in Gabon, but thats fishing. Been some heavy rain up there for this time of the year and the water in the estuaries is very brown.
Our first day was a cracker in the first two hours when we caught and released a sail and two blues in rapid time. We later dropped another blue that took 400m off the short left before coming off.
Day two saw us catching some yellowfin early and suffering a casualty on the boat when trying to pull a yellowfin on board in a hurry to get it away from the sharks. Eddie tore his cruciate ligaments in his left knee and was in severe pain. We fished on a while raising two blues that did not stick before calling it a day to get some attention to the knee.
Day one of the comp saw Eddie limping around the boat and unable to do much. Didnt matter as the water had gone green and the fishing was very slow. We raised 2 sails that didnt hook up and that was it apart from some tuna. Second comp day was pretty much the same and without any Ballyhoo for the sails we dropped another on a lure and landed 5 yellowfin in the 30 kg range. There were only 3 blues released and some sails so the results were pretty poor and a result of the green water.

Did a last trip to the Callou on Tuesday to find the blue water had moved back in. Unfortunately our poor run of luck on hookups continued as we raised 2 blues that did not stick. The blues were very small and feeding very shy on the shotgun. They behaved more like stripes and sails not committing fully. Landed a sail for the day and a few tuna. Think the season is late over there and that things will only improve. Was great to catch my first tarpon on the second day we were at the lodge preparing for the offshore fishing and I will be back for a big momma when its full season (April-May)
A big thanks to all involved in the tournament and for arranging our trip. A real treat to visit the good people of Gabon and we have been treated royally once again. Big thanks to Abbad, the two Olivier's and the staff at La Baie des Tortouse for a your special hospitality and a great time. Big plans for a dual attack at next years 2 tournaments on the new 44 ft boat scheduled for Feb. Will come with better prep and good bait for the sails and hope the fish turn it on!

That time again and packing for R Bay - hopefully the big blow coming this weekend will be the last heavy one for the year ...maybe. Anyway looking forward to the local season and taking a few big girls for a walk. Some reasonable fish have come out up north at Sodwana but no real fireworks yet. Blues and stripes plus a good few sails around. Water is reported as pretty green still, so hoping the North Easts will settle in and bring us the purple stuff soon. The moment it does Im sure its going to be game on. Start fishing next weekend so hoping it all comes together by then. Tight lines all the billfishers out there and heres to a cracker season! :sreel: :billf: :billf: :billf: :billf: :billf: :corrct:

Word on the water is that the average size of the blues are running over 200kg! Sounds like our season 2 years ago - can't wait to get out there! Should be great fun fishing for these girls with my charters. Will also be fishing on light tackle looking for some more SA records with Dale Leenstra this season. Set 6 new records last year lets see if we can better that number this year !!

Great start to the Richards Bay season with a nice fat Blue of 750lbs to kick off.   Really tough fish that gave us the gears and took 3 hrs to subdue! Water not yet what it should be and we only got into it at 1pm after going far north and into the deep before finding good colour and temp. Good news is its pushing down hard and with two days NE coming it should be on the 200m line soon. Guys weren't kidding when they said the fish where slow but of good class around 200kg. This one pushed over 300kg so lets hope its a sign of things to come. Hopefully the full rush of fish will be on shortly and we cab really get stuck in, especially if the weather settles.

The original idea was to go out on Beluga and chase a 30lb Junior record for a black but the water on the ledge was very dirty and the bait was non existent. Wasted the high tide unfortunately and found very little action in the traditional area with off colour water. Moved out to the 600-800 depth off the Jolly and found good blue water and nice temp rise. Wasn't long before we raised this little fellow in the deep. Came up on the TT "goldie" and switched to the UV skirted Vuta and crashed it for a solid hook up!
Blacks out here are an indication that the water is just not right on the inside and although its improving its got a way to go. Some good settled weather for next week so hopefully that will do the job! Probably only get out on Sunday again so more time for organising Wave Walker.

Water colour and clarity more important - have caught good fish in 23 to 27 C . fish tend to be slow when water over 27 C but there are no absolutes. We catch blues in 28/29 C in Gabon. Have caught marlin off PE in 20 C!

Two boats braved the rain and wind this morning and came back with a blue each off Richards Bay. Only sad part is both were killed and will not further the growth of the species.
The only positive is that the fish have arrived at last and I was able to take fin clippings off the fish for research.
We will be out tomorrow and look forward to tagging and releasing these beautiful animals so that our younger generation will also be able to enjoy our sport. Please people think before you kill these fish!!

4 seasons pizza for weather today - rain , calm sun and then wind, but a good day on the ocean. Second day of the girls getting it done for the first time - NICE!!
Dropped a stripe early then hooked up on this one and dropped another lure basher late. All good as fish are around and still good reports from Sodwana, so we will be having some fun for a while.
Rampage 1-3 on stripes, Reel Magic 1-1 on black and Lady Lee 1-1 on blue or stripe. No idea on rest.
Big congrats to our 12 year old first timer  Antwane Kotze - well done girl!!! First marlin and released - you should be proud and dad too!!

Man we had some fun with the double header today! Fish came in on the teaser and barely missed the back of the boat as I dived down to remove it. No deckie today so a solo effort. Pitched a bait on a Stella thinking it was a stripe and could see the fish ahead of the shotgun between the long left and right - just got the bait there when the fish ate the shotgun. Was winding the bait back when the big fish came past it and ate a big Ballyhoo on a pin rig with drop back on right long - awesome view of bait going down the hatch! Chaos as the fish crossed over and went in opposite directions, but got it sorted. Good thing it didnt eat the pitch...
Anyway lost the one after 45 min and got the other round 650 - 700.
Great guys from Durbs on the boat - nice to fish with you again and looking forward to January.Nick, Jan and Chris - always a pleasure!

Been one of the toughest seasons at R Bay this year with the worst weather imaginable. Its made finding fish really hard and the persistant westerlies have constantly disturbed the current and discoloured the water. Heaven knows when we will get the summer pattern back but I hope it happens soon - have never been so tired and worn out from holding on in heavy seas. For those that have braved the conditions there have been good rewards as was the case with this charter when Christo and Michelle flew in and decided to go for broke even though we knew it would only be for one or two hours of fishing at best. you have to roll the dice if you want to be in the game. Glad to have shucked a double six today! Well done to Michelle Human on her first Blue release with RMC out of Richards Bay - great job!

Had a tough charter with the big man and struggled for marlin hits while we caught some nice Dorado and yellows. Took a last ditch effort on the 3rd day to get his Striped marlin in the usual windy weather we have become accustomed to here this year. Looks like the weather is finally moving into its summer pattern with the onset of the new year - better late than never.
Happy new year everyone!!

Yesterday we released a nice spearfish but couldnt report.

Today at last we had a summers day and the shirts came off for a great day on the ocean. Released a stripe at 6am this morning and had another knock down shortly after. Amazing how the fish just turned on overnight with the settled weather! Released another Blue at mid day and called some mates in on the bite. We went shallow looking for a Grand Slam which probably cost us at least one more fish as all the guys that came onto the area hooked up. No matter we were going for a home run and nearly succeeded when a fish came up and missed the lure in 140 meters of water. No positive species ID but i would bet on a black - so close yet so far. All good for a belter fun day at sea!!

Yowza tired again - whats new - its the game and a great one at that. After a belter we had a slow day yesterday with only one big hit that sent a shiver down a salty dogs spine. Lure came back with the lead hook snapped on the bend??? Mustad made in China now too!! not nice..
Moving on we had an even slower day today except for a nice Dorado early. A few fish were landed and dropped on the high tide rise early this morning. We missed out somehow and joined the fleet for a boring day in the doldrums with flat sea conditions and no wind. Hung in there till late and watched the storm approaching hoping the fish would come on on the rise of the barro and some wind. Called it spot on and as the wind hit we dropped a Blue and then went tight on a stripe. Saved the day and faced a nice bumpy ride back in 25 knots and driving rain - as I said earlier these are the conditions we thrive on - ha ha!

Late start today due to west still blowing but launch once it settled. Was out on my old favourite "Reel Magic" with owner Mike and star junior fisherman Dale Leenstra. Water on inside was off colour and cold so it was out back to find it on the 700m line. Sea was rough but fishable and it wasnt long before we were hooked up on a young blue on 50lb standup. Dale looking for a junior record on 50lb so it was a first marlin for JJ and stand-up at that!
Dropped a fish shortly after but went tight at mid day on a slightly bigger blue but not big enough for Dale. Nice gesture by Mike to let me fight a fish for a change. Gave it gears and came to the boat ready to fight. Gave us a great show around the boat before running out of gas. Great day and hoping the show will go on for the next few days with a new group on board "Wave Walker".

Awesome day out there today but big changes from yesterday. Water pushed back in overnight and fish were spread from deep to shallow. Found some action back on the usual spots and decided to hang in there for the day. Had a knock down early - probably a stripe - no ID and then raised a nice blue that would not commit. Stayed in the area till mid day when we went tight on a great fish. Gave the fish horns and got it to the boat pretty green so the guys had a hard time holding her. Only a few poor pics but she was a good 650-700. Swam away strong after wrestling free -all good except for a lack of good pics.
Had a stripe up late on the way home - bashed everything but would not eat properly - nice action so out tomorrow hoping for more!

Another very nice compliment from Ian and his group who caught the 650 -700 lb Blue:
" Ek wil egter my wardering uitspreek en jou ook komplementeer op hoe jy jou boot en tekkel voorberei en hanteer, mens sien dees dae min mense wat soveel trots en toeweiding het en so profesioneel is.
Ek ( en die ander) het baie by jou geleer en dit was 'n voorreg om saam met jou te hengel."

Many thanks Ian and your group - its feedback like this that makes putting in the extra effort so worthwhile. Look forward to fishing with you in April again.

Back in the saddle today after the week of fever but nothing mind blowing to report. Big swell out there this morning and strong NE by end of day. Mick got his first Short Bill and a nice Wahoo but that was it. Going south for some cooler water tomorrow and praying for some marlin as its looking all too hot out there. Better report tomorrow hopefully

What started off as a fairly wet run out ended with an awesome day on the ocean. Went south in search of some temperature gradient but alas there was none. Work the southern area to the bone and came up with only a sailfish as prize. Have caught two species that one doesnt expect to catch the last two days, but no complaints two billfish that count. Was great having Mick on board again and as usual we manage to catch fish together... Not what was targeted but two more species ticked off Mick's list - not bad!
The Blues have gone missing the last 3 days and probably a result of the warm water which is now over 28 degrees. Probably a good time to head home for a short break before the 2 tournaments later next month. Hope the water cools down and the fish are around then!

Just when you have settled down and are enjoying being home its again time to hit the long road. Had a great day of R+R yesterday off St Francis with a special braai to celebrate being home for a while. Weather looking awesome for the weeks marlin comp in R Bay and weather for next week at Struis not too bad at this point. Hopefully we get to tag a few more girls and add to the collection of fin clippings for research!

Been a hectic few weeks travelling around and running for hours out of Struis. The Marlin Club of SA comp in R Bay went off really well with awesome spirit and great organisation and was a pleasure to be a part of. Was a big pity that the water went green for the comp and forced us deep looking for fish. Fishing was understandably slow and only a few fish were caught with Reel Magic landing two fish in the three days to be a clear winner. We fished on Rampage and only raised one very big fish that came off after pulling good line. There were 3 fish tagged that pushed over the 500lb mark so the big girla are around if we can just get the blue water back. The comp in Struisbaai suffered from the same problems with 4 of the 6 days blown out with 2 days fished, one in heavy conditions and the other a peach of a day. We fished off Catitude and released a stripe on the first day, raised 3 on the second and dropped the two that had ago at the lure and a bait. There were a number of fish dropped and 3 boats managed two fish with 15 fish released in two days from a fleet of 30 boats. not wonderfull but the fishing potential there is good if you can time the weather and water conditions. Struis is not for sissies with a two and half hour run out to the 45 mile banks and no shelter from weather off the southern most tip of Africa. Back in R Bay now for the Classic this week with some charters and fishing the Inter Provincial next week. Lets hope we get some water and weather as there have been some very big fish caught in the last week. now is the time for those trophy fat girls!!!

After a disaster 5 days fishing the Billfish Classic with a great group of guys, the voodoo spell of dropping fish and mystery tackle hiccups has finally come to an end. After dropping 6 fish in 5 days things came together yesterday for fist time German fisherman Daniel Kirsch. We tagged and sampled a fin clip before releasing this nice fat 700lb Blue off Wave Walker. Been a torrid week and so glad to finally get a fish as my nerves are frayed badly.
Nice one Daniel!!

Yesterday was not a good day for most in the Inter prov/Club comp and only 2 fish were released out of 10 boats. We suffered a break down late in the day which is always unpleasant, but we managed to limp home. No time to trouble shoot so A BIG thanks to Deon Auby for the use of his boat Rampage for today and tomorrow, allowing us to release another nice blue today of +550lb for the boys from Cape Boat and Ski Boat Club. Much more action today with a rising glass and SW wind, although only 4 fish released. Last day tomorrow!

That's it for now out of Richards Bay as I am back home and getting things organised for my trip to the Canary Islands and then onto the Azores. Finished off the Richards Bay season on a good note with a win in the club championship for the boys from Cape Boat and Ski Boat. Was a fun comp except for our breakdown and once again we dropped a few fish which fortunately did not cost us the lead. Been a long hard season this year with a lot of bad weather in the early months and the fish being slower than usual. Having said that we released 6 fish over 500 lbs with two over 700 lbs, so not bad on the size front!  Have done some experimenting as well and with good success so look forward to tackling the girls from a different angle in future.
All best for the guys still hunting the girls - tight lines!

Water slowly improving off R Bay and as soon as these South Westers settle its going to be on! Slow action at the Sailfish inter prov at Sodwana last week with only 4 sails landed but some great news of a triple strike of Stripes yesterday with one release. Almost time to make the move - watching and waiting....

Water pushing down and looking great so no wonder while a few of us were watching the rugga some great action went down at the bay - 3 fish released and a 500 landed today with possibly another released just waiting for confirmation. The game is on full time and definitely time to move my arse!
Think its going to be a cracker El Nino season!

After a horror week of storms that destroyed the fishing, some of the moorings and comp infrastructure at Sodwana things have settled again and my bags are packed to leave Monday. The latest SST photo looks pretty bleak but the NE is blowing again and should get everything back on track asap. Some repairs to the storm damaged Bimini on the boat needed and then hopefully some first hand reports on the fishing. Been a long wait but rearing to go now. Spoke to the guys that were out before the storm and there has been action on all the days fished so the news is good and hopefully its going to be a good season.Stand bye for kick off!

Ok ready for survey and just about ready to go wet a line. Water still not recovered after that big SW blow and although its improved the results at the Billfish 15000 are proof that the water is not 100% . Mainly blacks coming out in the shallows. Wind howled NE today and is back into the SW tonight. Looks more settled after the weekend and hoping the water will have pushed in then. Still looking patchy and the break is deep on the 700m area.
All good some time to smooth out all the kinks from the layoff and get everything 100% !

Good news and bad news yesterday... Good news is the water has pushed in a long way and although the current was slack the water was good on the ledge, the temp was up to 25 deg on the 500m line. Bad news was that it was a poor day, very dark and with intermittent rain. We didnt go north to the main area as I was concerned with any problems that may arise and the pending south that was forecast. It was very slow but we managed to raised a stripe close to home but unfortunately it would not eat. Came back in a freshening south and pouring rain.
Had a few issues with a few leaking injectors after all the work done on the port motor so we also got out late and missed the tide. Good news is that those issues will be sorted today as the motor is running beautifully, we can attack the season full on now.

The weather is unfortunately not looking good this week and with the rain and south wind last night I hope it hasnt disturbed the water again.
Was great to be out on the water and sitting in that comfortable saddle again. Super stoked to be fishing again and revved up for the season. Bring on some summer weather and the dancing girls....it is time!

Belter day out on the ocean today and conditions were much as expected. Water was not great this morning at 24 degrees and greenish. Worked deeper and North and temp slowly came up to 25 with better water colour. No birds or bait so nothing to work on. Hit the 700m area and had fish swipe the long left and miss - turned on the mark and the fish came up on the halfbeak on long right and hooked up.First marlin for Mark our mechanic who slaved in the small space to get the motor up and running . Nice Dorado late in the day as well!Water pushed in through the day and got up to 26 degrees by late afternoon. No blues or other life but with the weather of late thats not surprising and the water is only now getting back into the ledge. Weekend should show better results with better weather.Glad to report our season open and hoping the bite will come on as the weather settles.

Heres a three day summary of the action hotting up off Richards Bay:

Thursday

Ah yes! Action day 2 Marlin , Dorado a great bunch of guys and good weather - NICE!

Friday
Ouch as good as yesterday was, today we sucked and jumped off 3!!! Black blue and sail - fffffff! Great to see a blue again and sorry not up close - always tomorrow eish..
The fish are back!!

Saturday

Great to have a calm day on the ocean after yesterdays almost Gale conditions late in the afternoon. Bad hookups are expected in those conditions so the 3 loses yesterday are bearable. Yesterday saw prefrontal conditions ahead of the south storm that hit last night and with a barometer below 1000 mb I wasnt expecting much action. The Dorado are still rampant and we landed a few in the 20 kg range before going tight with the biggest Blue I have seen here for the past 3 seasons. To see her jump free after an atomic run was hard to swallow in perfect conditions. Seeing the explosions and water displacement of that +800lb beast was awesome after this lean spell and heartbreaking for Jan who is still without his first marlin.
2 other boats had hookups and losses in the area on Blues, so the game is warming up nicely with 27.5 degree purple water moving in at last.
Sad story but great to see the fat girls back in the bay and looking forward to some more hot action after this front passes.

Been a crazy start to this season with hectic weather and weird fishing. In past seasons we have battled with gamefish by catch but had great Blue marlin fishing. This year we are having a Dorado bonanza out there with an abundance of small black marlin with fewer blues and stripes. Not sure if its due to the amount of food out there for the blues but they are feeding very shy, although it must be said that the water and current is late and has only just arrived. Was expecting green water yesterday after the 2 days of south, but thankfully the current has set in hard and the water was awesome and finally in its slot with great current lines and purple crystal clear water.
Myself and Dale had our hands full in the morning trying to run a spread with baits in a strong south with a 4 meter swell running and a very rough sea. Just 2 up on a 40 footer with Dorado attacks and marlin knock downs and a crazy sea was great fun if not a bit manic ha ha.
End result we dropped a Blue that eventually switched to a bait rig and then came unstuck. Great dorrie action and then stuck a small Black on the way home. Strange how we have nailed 4 blacks in a row as they are notoriously difficult to hook on lures yet the blues are not hooking up even though they are generally easier on lures. Guess thats fishing and it will even out again.
The action has definitely come on and we should see more and more blues now. Lets hope they start feeding full on.

Snuck out early before the wind got to bad today and snagged a great Blue for the English boys. Simon's first marlin - 600lb is going to take some beating. Well done son for hanging in there for the 90 min fight. Had my hands full without a deckie today but the experience of doing this a few times before came in handy. Well done guys for lending a hand on the bill to get the hooks out and one for the fish for being kind and not misbehaving. Some good weather forecast for after Christmas so lets hope we get to do some fishing in calm seas. Merry Christmas all!!

Yesterday turned out to be a happy day for all on the water for the first time this season. All the boats out there raised and or landed fish for the first time this season - the game is in full swing now. We had a black up early on the ledge that did not stick then went tight on a 350lb Blue and stuck a very nice 80 kg Striped marlin later in the afternoon. Unfortunately no good pics of the fish boat side as they both pulled hooks at the boat, which was unfortunate but great as I had owner Neels on board leadering and he has just got out of hospital after having stents inserted in his heart. Awesome to see the colour back in him and smiling ear to ear. just glad he didnt have to put to much effort in.Thx Neels and welcome back!
Squidlips, Reel Magic,Madness,Lady lee,Rough Rider all released a fish and we released a double missing a grand slam by a whisker - if anyone wants a marlin, the weather looks great in the next week and the fish are finally here in force !!

Really crappy charter weather day but what a great family. Had a full blown ICU unit going today with a nasty south sea and sea sickness the order of the morning yet not a whimper or a moan out of the girls in the family group. Errol you guys are awesome and it was such a pleasure to have you on board! Grand to catch James his first marlin after watching a spectacular show as this Black tried to eat a Dorado 20 meters in front of the boat and then hooked up after driving over its head. Sad that it got tail wrapped but it gave us a chance to chat and get to know you guys at the club. Awesome day and exactly why I love to do this.Too good!

Well the weather has been amazing the last few days and it has been a pleasure being on the ocean after the carnage of the previous few weeks. The fishing has been a bit slower with the water up to 28 degrees now, but there are atill nice Blues around. Two nice blues in the 800 lb range coming out in the last 3 days!! We have raised a fish or two every day and there have been releases by other boats as well. Been unlucky not to stick the last two but we made up with a nice Spear for Dawie, his first and super chuffed with adding this rare catch to his CV. Happy new year everybody!!

What a magic first day on the ocean for 2016 - flat calm and a light breeze. Pity the fishing was very slow but we managed a Spearfish release and cruised the ocean enjoying the awesome weather, a treat after what we have been through this season. Water was off colour in the main area so no blues in shallow but two Blues were raised by other boats in the deep but didnt stick. Reel Magic also released a Spear.
A flag on the first outing of the year is always good!

Our first day on the ocean for 2016 was magic and the second got even better. Perfect weather and 2 releases before 8.30 am!! With a Black and a Spear release we chose to go deep and look for a Grand Slam on another Blue release. In a normal season it would have been something that would have been easily achievable, but we did so knowing that it was not going to be easy with the current lack of Blues. The bait and life on the ocean was amazing yesterday with Bonito busting all over the Castle area and Yellowfin on the 500m line. Had we stayed on the shallow side we would definitely have connected with another Black as was evident on the radio with multiple hook ups all the way up to St Lucia.
However if we had connected with a Blue it would have been an amazing day for Neels with an angler and a boat Grand Slam, so it was a no brainer to go big. Unfortunately it didnt happen, but it sure was a great 2nd day out there for 2016.
Sadly it was my last day for a while as its time to go home and see my family. Been a very tough first half of the season and its such a pity that the weather has only now decided to play its part, somewhat late but very welcome.
Till next time....

Yesterdays fishing had its moments... Started as a windless day that lasted about a half hour before the NE got into its stride. Just when we got into the area we had a mystery ailment on the starboard motor going into limp mode for no reason. While battling to find the fault and on auto on one motor limping into the wind, a blue decided to pay us a visit. Safe to say that the hook up was rather brief at 2-3 knots with no steering. After a drought in the comp I had an instant sense of humour failure. 30 minutes later after giving up on the problem to return to port the ailment disappeared and all went back to normal. - Murphy can be a complete **  at times...
Decided to hang in there and worked what was then a very messy ocean. Fortunately it paid off when we went tight with a small blue that gave us an incredible show close up. Hopefully post the video later.
Unfortunately the fish swallowed the lure deep and we had to pull the fish on board to get the hooks out of the throat and gills. Long attempt at revival failed so it was bitter sweet. A fish for the day but a day full of imperfections.
4 days of gale winds ahead so some time to try to find the gremlin.
Most flying fish and life weve seen the last while and water up to 27,4 C. Back out once this weather gives us a gap.

Had another stripe or young black have 3 goes late but just wouldn't stick. Close but no cigar but still a good day in the saddle at last. Out again tomorrow.

Yesterday we got one early and dropped one late. Today we dropped one early and got one later.... All good great two days with Nick, bro and dad, who have been with me many times and have yet to blank on Marlin on a day! Proud record lets keep it that way. Nice pick of Jan's Strip

Had a torrid few days at sea before yesterday losing two very nice fish after massive runs with the hooks pulling on consecutive days. Some good fish around but the fish have been feeding only for an hour or so on the high tide and if you miss that window its all over. Yesterday I predicted the bite for around 10am and we hooked up exactly then with a very nice fish that came back at the boat underwater with slack line even on the plane. Thought we had dropped another and was about to throw my toys when we came tight again and released a very good 600lb Blue after 40 min. Some class fish out there as we had another come up on the shotgun shortly after the first that simply turned away and cruised on the surface. Estimated same size as the one we released. Pity the weather is looking dog for the next week so will have to force out when we can.

Report Thursday last week:

ha ha Murphy's law! Packed up the boat yesterday expecting the westerly to have buggered the water only to wake early this morning and see a totally different picture on the current map. Took Rampage out and found unbelievable water over 27 degrees with good bait in the water column and of course there were some fish too. Not boiling but life, Squidlips released a small blue early and we saw a small ski drop a fish before getting hooked up mid day on a spectacular fish that did a massive run before going down deep. Unfortunately it got tail wrapped and after an hour of planing we got her up again. Too late to revive her so she got loaded and weighed in at 525 lbs. Awesome day on the water at last. Out again tomorrow so we will see....

Friday lasts report:

Another action packed morning on Rampage. Double on Dorado before sun came out and while resetting got hammered by a black which came unbuttoned after a good run. Went tight at 9 on a fiesty small blue that gave us a show close up before disappearing into distance. Bad luck with second tail wrap in two days. Took a dip to swim it back to the boat when it came unstuck next to the boat. Long effort on revival on snooter before it released itself prematurely. Did our best and hope it survived. Westerly came busting through at 11 and destroyed the magic conditions. What can say two days of tossir weather ahead

Been out of the loop for a while with some heavy family commitments so fishing has taken a back seat.
Was great to get a call from Mick to do two days fishing and just get away for a while. Quick fire strike to R Bay by plane and quick trip to harbour to drop the gear and we were on water early Tuesday on a magnificent day. Plenty bait birds skippies tuna dolphins crabs rays you name it but nothing till 3pm. Just when you think its dead - bam! Thanks for coming.
Great acrobat and nice long run...yeah too good.
Dropped another cooker on Wednesday that also gave us a great show before coming off after a good run. - Thats billfishing and why we love it.
Mick has now caught a spear, sail, blue and black and needs to come back November to finish the set with a stripe.
Always a pleasure fishing with him.
Back in J Bay and looking for another window...

Wow feels like an eternity since I last posted a report on fishing. Didnt go anywhere for the winter so its been too long without wetting the scales. :-(  Fortunately we will be up at Inhassoro in two weeks to fish on a small ski for some blacks.  :-) Be fishing with good mate Deon Auby and hoping for some good weather. See the fishing has been somewhat slow at Baz for the last few weeks with the odd black here and there. Spoke to Duarte and he confirmed that the water was not so good and the bait scarce. Hopefully the conditions will improve before we get there.

Anyways just checking in and confirming I will be back in Richards Bay mid November fishing on Wave Walker. Probably my last season up there as I will be sailing a 64ft yacht around the world fishing from end next year if all goes to plan. Have set up a facebook page called Nexus Offshore Adventures and will document the build and trip as it unfolds. Check it out, like and follow..

Till the the first reports stand by, wont be long now! :fshn: :fshn: :fshn: :billf: :billf: :billf: :rck" :rck" :rck"

Back in da office! 0-1 lost a Blue and 1-1 release on Stripe. Late start after the early blow but snuck out between the two fronts and had some fun. Had to go very deep as water cold and off colour but glad to have connected. Early exit as the next front arrived but job done. Piddling down and blowing again..

Great day out on the water on Rampage yesterday raising 3 and releasing a Blue and a stripe. Water is pushing in nicely and the fish is coming on big time. Good stripes up at Sodwana with doubles being reported. Had two fish under the boat while fighting the first stripe! Weather still very unsettled but looking like a cracker season!

Nother flag but "only" a Spearfish with a couple of Dorado and a Wahoo to get the species count up. Pearler day but out for tomorrow. One other Blue came out on a slow day before the weather.

Very early departure followed by a hiccup that saw us having to return to port and swop boats onto Rampage and start again. Eventually got out in rain and heavy conditions that were not pleasant. Fortunately things calmed down and cleared later and as the sea settled we had some action. Always good to have Mick on board and glad to keep our run going over the years. Mick was looking for a stripe to catch 5 of the 6 Billfish available on our coast. Proud that this was achieved today and all his fish have been caught with Reel Magic Charters( Stripe, Spear, Sail, Black, Blue), making him one of a handful of anglers to achieve this and all with one skipper.
Released a stripe after mid day and then had an hour over the high tide where we dropped a double of what I suspect were Spearfish. Worked the area and landed one shortly after. Micks second with us and rounding off a good day after a rocky start. Many thanks to Deon Auby for allowing us to use his boat at short notice. Much appreciated D! looking forward to fishing with you next week!!

Been a torrid two days of rain and rough conditions interspersed with a run of boat issues that would deter the most determined fisherman out there. Thankfully we managed to hold it together somehow. Thanks Mick for your patience and understanding....Managed another Blue of 360lbs which unfortunately tail wrapped and died on us on Thursday. Also dropped a Stripe that did its rounds on the teaser, left the swim bait and bashed the longs before coming off after a short run. Yesterday we worked the same area but with water temp going down through the day we suspected the water had been disturbed by the South West on Wed/Thurs and proved so on the SST map. Unfortunately these images are only loaded a day later or one could have changed the plan. Ended a great run of six days of a bill or more a day.
Still waiting patiently for the current to push down all the way and bring the fish down properly,

Been a long week of drought due to the water temp drop and off color water since last Friday week. Did a few trips with no results  for all boats. Water pushed down on Sunday and the fish started to turn on again. Dropped a fish on Sunday then had a bit of a mare yesterday losing a bunch that didn't stay buttoned. Super thankful when the 5th fish stayed the distance. Was feeling the pressure of a second days charter without result.

Current came down solid yesterday and the bite was on on the tide late afternoon. Hoping the south of today doesn't disturb a good thing. Should be out again tomorrow so we will soon see.

Congrats Jaco on your first marlin. RMC making dreams come true!

Late launch today due to clients driving from Sodwana so only got out to the 100m line at 7.30. Raised a Spearfish that tried its best to get hooked but failed miserably. Lucky for him no dentist bill.

Hooked up and released another Stripey at 9.00 and then had a slow mid day as the wind dropped and the sea went millpond. Had to be back early for a flight so worked back to harbour and raised a Blue that crashed the short right and jumped at  the boat spitting the lure. Been a struggle with them the last two days while the Stripes have been sticking. Normally the other way around??

Crazy game

One thing about Richards Bay is that you better be prepared to fish in wind and tough conditions or stay home. If this place had the weather some places have it would be silly how good it would be. Constant south winds battering the current make it incredibly hard and changes the water daily. Anyway the fish always eat in the south if you can stay out and so it was again today with all the boats out getting fish.We released a blue that made a spectacular bite after I marked it coming up on the echo and everyone was looking out and waiting for the bite which came immediately. Rampage and another two boats got two while we missed another two in the rough conditions. All good and looking forward to getting out tomorrow on a better forecast.

Had a slower day yesterday as the sea settled and the south dropped. Some Dorado action before going tight on a half beak swim bait with circle....was so good to get a Blue bite on the rig and started celebrating a solid hookup...the 400lb Blue sat until 50m from the boat when it did a jump and spat the hook.....mmm been like that with them. Turned back to the mark and immediately went tight on a Stripe so all good. Slow afternoon with only Dorry action. Few days break with buster south AGAIN today back out when its nice again....compliments of the season to all!!

Awesome day out yesterday with all boats getting into fish over the whole area. Dropped 3 fish early on, one being the best fish I have seen this season. Finally held onto one mid day as the bite came back on with all the boats in our area going tight. One boat had a triple on Blues but unfortunately only boated one. We also released a small Blue shallow on the way home so all in all a good day with two Blue releases. Rampage got two, Reel Magic one, Squid lips one , Addicted one and a number of others had one release. Weather shitty today or would have been out there for sure. Waiting for a gap....Bite is ON!!!!

12 Jan

Had to work far north again looking for water and ended up past Mapelane in 27 c water but unfortunately still off colour. Very good water further north but out of range. Managed a small Black in 600m and then moved to the inside looking for another black on the 100m line on the way home.
Reel Magic stayed out deep all day and didnt raise anything so the Blues are definitely missing in these poor water conditions.
Got extremely lucky at the death out front in 150m tagging another very fiesty little Black of 50 kg that gave Deon a proper hiding boat side. Had a good laugh at his expense as he got tatoo'ed for his trouble. Always the little ones that get you...
Some hard N E wind expected the next few days and hoping they will chase this current down at last. Been a funny season with counter current and very patchy water.
Tally now 21 for 21 days so not bad. Hopefully get Wave Walker up and running in the next week and do a few test runs if water improves. Till then...

Have had a lot of strong N E the last few days so unable to fish but great news as the current is now pushing down hard. Latest SST map unavailable but this was two days ago...Going to be an interesting next two weeks as we go onto the moon. Think the action is going to come thick and fast especially with good Blue marlin action up north the last few days....bring it on!

Going to blow a bugle on the page today just to put some things in perspective.
We have many charter inquiries through the year and most people gag at the price of a days fishing. Unfortunately most people don't have a clue how much it costs to run these big outfits and the time and effort that goes into making a successful charter day on Marlin. For the record we are at about half the international rate to begin with.

That said we have raised a over 60 marlin, raising one on every charter this year, catching 21 fish in 21 days fishing and missed a landing on only one charter.
That's more than a 90% success rate on MARLIN!!!
That is unbelievable by any world standard.

Here's one clients response to a days fishing with us:

Hi Trevor,

Thanks for an awesome day yesterday, it was a pleasure to go fishing with you!
I would also like to compliment you on the way you handled the clients and boat. With some inexperienced fishermen on board you ensured that they did not embarrass themselves by assisting with landing the fish through some excellent skippering. Your knowledge and experience can be seen by someone that is a certified boat skipper and has some fishing knowledge, but nowhere near yours. Yours can only come through the clearly seen love for fishing and hours and hours of honing your craft into the complete package you so effortlessly present. Well done to you!

And that is exactly why I love doing this sport and give 100% every day out there.
There is no guarantee on catching a marlin every day and having that expectation is totally unrealistic for marlin fishing anywhere in the world.

The bottom line as they say: You get what you pay for !!

Many thanks to all who fished with us in 2017, looking forward to a cracker 2018.

Nother Blue again today on a rather slow day but to be expected with a massive cyclone swell running. Couple of nice Dorado to go with the blue. First ever day on the ocean and fishing for Christo and he gets both a blue and a dorry. Be some envious friends out there.. Awesome fishing and I take my hat off to you and the other professional charters..the most expensive charters in this country are still good value and much cheaper options than owning and maintaining your own big boat to go to the deep with..I can just guess at your fuel bill, must be astronomical! Then crew, gillies, your berth must cost a pretty penny, oh ja then those million rand boats..I take my hat off to you guys and hope to support when I can.. To put it into perspective, to go on a charter with three of your mates to go and catch tuna, is a cheaper way to get your meat than to go to pick and pay, and little :yft: :yft: :yft: :yft: :fshn: :fshn: :fshn: :fshn: more fun! Those who say you and the other pro's are more expensive are living the false economy, to their own loss, heres to living the dream!

Quick trip back to R Bay to fish with good friend Deon Auby and what a great weekend we had. Caught a blue every day(450,400,350) making it 26 for the season going 3-3 with 100% hookup and reaching no 300 for RMC at the same time. Always easier when you see the good water is there and you go when you have a good idea it will be on and the weather is great. Well that's it for the summer. 2 marlin the last 3 and half day plus some nice gamefish. Real pity the two West blows destroyed the water and had us struggling to find blue water or it would have been a lot better. Great fun with the karoo lads so all good. Ended the season with 28 fish from 31 days fished so not bad. Best thing about it is leaving with Wave Walker running like old and ready to go full on next summer. Well done Neels and Mark! Just now
Been super tough out there lately with wind the order of the day. Snuck out early before the N East got unplayable and released a feisty Blue for Tim early doors and then dropped a small black on the ledge on the way in mid day. The current was raging today and the blue water has pushed in well. Things are starting to look up, although the fish are still deeper. Small problem of the pestilence visiting us again tomorrow in form of a 30 knot southerly....just cant leave well alone at the moment. Will try for Thursday weather permitting..

Well that was one of the worst December seasons in history and hence a lack of reporting here. The first time that I have turned away charters on the basis that it just was not worth it. I have always done the charters for the love of the sport and it has been such a fun summer job for me. This year was the first time in years that I felt it just wasn't fun anymore. If I wasn't happy then one could hardly blame your clients and friends for not enjoying the outing. Unbelievably bad weather and lack of good water made it super hard to stay positive and give it a full go.
We still did better than anybody else over the period and released 5 fish out of 15 outings, while many boats went for weeks without any success. I eventually decided to call it quits at the end of December as everyone was about finished with holidays and hanging around for a possible charter that I had very little interest in doing was a no brainer.
January has seen some improved water and a few days delivered some fish for the resident fisherman, but it has still been a stop start year and very poor by all accounts.
I may well fish over the Easter season if there is an improvement in the action but that remains to be seen. The trolling champs in Sodwana this week will reveal the true story and it will be interesting to see what comes out. The water is not great but I am sure there will be some fish around for the lucky ones.

The big reason for the post is to let everyone know of an exiting new venture we will be embarking on in the winter this year.

Nexus Offshore Adventures

I will be co skippering a brand new 64 ft yacht called Lyra Noa (NOA being for Nexus Offshore Adventures). She is fully rigged for fishing big game and ocean adventure and is being finished in the Nexus/Balance Catamaran factory in St Francis Bay. She is due to go in the water end March/April.
It is a long time project that has taken longer than expected but was our goal ever since we did the first delivery of the first 60 ft yacht to come out of the factory in 2011.
The trip on Nexus in 2011 across the Atlantic was an incredible experience and the fishing we did on some of the mid ocean seamounts was off the planet. Some might remember a four part article I did in the Ski Boat magazine back then. We intend to do a lot more exploring and fishing on these off the beaten track places and I will be documenting and filming as we go.
Will probably start a new thread under the NOA name and keep all posted on our progress. At this stage we intend doing a first shake down trip to Madagascar and north just to give her a good run and iron out any kinks before setting off next year across the Atlantic and onwards.

Please check out the facebook page Nexus Offshore Adventures on the link https://www.facebook.com/NEEDADVENTURE/?ref=bookmarks (https://www.facebook.com/NEEDADVENTURE/?ref=bookmarks)
like the page and follow.
There are updates on the build with pics etc and we welcome some input and banter..
Look forward to engaging with everyone and showing off some fun fishing spots in the future...
