Good to see couple of the guys yesterday.

Also launched yesterday and tried for couta again. Managed to hook a really nice queenfish and brought it to the boat. only to have my crew misgaff 3 times and eventually gaffed the hook out. Also got 2 hammers to the boat and released them.

Turned out to be a very nice day on the sea, had good showings the area I was fishing but struggled to get the bite.

Nice YFT Scott, was it torpedo scads you were using as bait?

i dont know what they were, just looked like a scad, but they were fantasic bait... the swam along the surface and where shinny shinny shinny! it was only a matter of time until something picked them up...

Pity we only had 4 baits. 1, died, 1 saily ppick up, 1 missed pick up and 1 yellowfin....

Some nice fish there gents, well done  (clap)

@Scott - good to hear the sailies like your boat

We sent two of our up and coming Shelly Beach juniors to fish the Rod and Reel Interclub and they did very well, coming out on top after two days! Bevan got a sailie on a live mack as well as a 13kg wahoo on halco. Megan did very well and bagged a 31,7kg Yellowfin, rmember all these fish caught on 10kg mono! Very lekker to see the lighties doing well.

we fished Durbs yesterday.
Was a beaut of a day with a fairly decent swell running, but the sea was flat...
Headed out to target tuna and found bait very easily!!
Our first pull of the morning resulted in us getting bitten off, the speed that the reel was screaming meant one thing... :wahoo: . We changed to steel traces and went away about 30mins later  with another wahoo. The speed of this fish was insane. i havent witnessed a fish move like that!!! this fish also ended up breaking us off...
We then set the baits again and about an hour later had another pick up... This time is was on the one mono trace we were fishing, and this was a tuna... Fish went deep and spat the hook!!!

we ended the day with 3 lost fish!! not good , but thats fishing!!

We always fish circle hooks and have not missed a fish with them before. We have recently changed from using a gama's circle to the mustad and have been missing fish. Do you think this could be and issue? Has anyone else experienced this???

Unlucky Scott, as you said - thats fishing!!
If you are targeting couta or wahoo specifically then there is little benefit in using circles IMO, rather use normal J hooks.

Nice report Scott, pity about the lost fish - hard luck  :-(

I fish circles exclusively and have been through many different brands. In my opinion your best bet with best hookup ratio on tuna are 1) VMC Sport Circle 6/0 (offset heavy gauge) and 2) Eagle Claw 7/0 Tournament (inline circle) very sharp and excellent hookup. Ironically my worst results on tuna have been on the Gama 6/0 and Mustad Demon Circle 8/0's. If you want a no fail solution I would recommend the VMC sport circle 6/0.

Unlucky  there Scott.

Well our motors seem to finally be sorted, put boat on water  at about 10h00 to test run them, purred properly, so well out there got some bait, headed shallow to try for a Couta but nadda, heard plenty guys battled for fish yesterday. Sea was to perfect yesterday.

We fished yesterday with the intent of trying for a couta but had the boys nagging us to join us and with flat seas and almost no wind predicted it was impossible to say no so we changed plans and decided to try for a dorrie or wahoo instead...

Saw Scott up North (boat is looking smart bud) and heard he'd dropped a couple so knew the fish were there and just avoiding us  <:  We found some walla walla and decided to boat a couple for the comp next week which ended up being good fun for the kids. After no luck and seeing another boat land a good size wahoo we headed further North and let the boys fish bottoms where they got some nice kings, rockcod & reds which were all released.

On the way back we put out a few rappies and managed a tuna of 17kg.
