Not coastal but heading up Sani, and into Lesotho for 3 days. Hopefully get to throw a fly into one of the rivers.

Some really nice tunny caught yesterday, unfortunately I was not amongst them. Well done to those who found the fish.

We finally got snoek onto the boat yesterday - got 2 around 3kg each. Also got.a.few small bonnies and a queenfish.
Trolled feathers to Umhloti hoping for a tuna but nothing - swam a few live shad for couta as well in the 30m mark but no takers.
Went down for bottoms and got some nice slinger and rockcod - sea turned nasty and we headed back!

Fished on Sunday and got some big macs for bait. Tried for tuna and got 3 nice runs only to get the live baits back without any signs of tooth matks and still alive? Can someone advize if this is common to tuna? Very strange. Managed to get hooked in something big. Followed it for some time only to be cut off near the hook. Think it was a big cuta as it had a very good run. Need also some info for durban. Till when can we try for cuta and tuna? Not sure when they leave our waters. Thanks

Isn't it nearly Leerie(Garrick)time there in Durbs...?Couldn't that be the reason your livies "took runs"but returned without toothmarks and alive...?

Hi Alfu, when you fish for the Tuna allow for a very light drag so the fish can run and swallow the bait, sometimes what I have found is that soon as the tunny feels some resistance it will drop the bait. The croc couta well who knows if you don't try you will never know. The Tunny should be around for awhile still.

Hi Lofty, our garrick (Leerie) season starts around now and we get them right on the back line, we on the boats normally only start getting fish around the end of September  - what we call the return shoals.

Fish on Sunday and had the same problem, had nice big macs on circle hooks, let the tuna run for a long time and then tightened up, had the fish on for a few seconds only to have the macs spat out. Happened 3 times, very frustrating. I thought it may have been the circles twisting up, but I have since heard that a good few boats had the same problem!

Hi guys

I have a stack(about 150) of fishing mags to give away, The complete fly fisherman, Fly fishing, Ski Boat, ESA and some others, I'm leaving SA for a while and can't take them with me. If anyone wants them please let me know and I will either drop them at the club for you or you can come collect them, they date back to about 2002.

Cheers,
Mike.

Drop them off at Durban ski boat club. I'm sure the guys would enjoy reading them down stairs at the couches or upstairs around the bar
