Good stuff Pedro... makes me green with envy when I see that. All I could manage on Sat afternoon after work was 3 little bass, one of them scarcely larger than the plastic it attacked  :vio
Forgive me Father for I have spinned... It's been three weeks since my last cob session.

it's becoming a habit to launch solo
my mates agenda been very busy and I have to take the opportunity to launch...and with good weather coming I took the decision to launch yesterday morning
another short session (I had to be back before lunch time)...so boat was in the water by 6:15 with a beautiful sunrise
I always send the sunrise picture to a few mates expecting not to be the best photo of the day...unfortunatly yesterday sunrise photo was the best and only photo for the day
not much to say...flat seas...smooth ride...water temp nearly got to 25º...
plan was for some drifts with dead sardines (no takers), alternating between jigging and popping...same plan as 2 weeks ago...and finalyzing with 30min throlling before heading back home
appart for a huge pod of dolphins in the area where I was "fishing" the best action I had was a cuta following my jig all the way up towards the boat

another great day at sea...even with no fish in the hatch

heard a few boats also went out with same result as me

with another sunday "nice" forecast and a planned lunch I had to make a plan again to take the opportunitie to be out at sea
all decided on saturday afternoon...checked with the usual suspects but all were busy...either launching or with family activities...so off I went again on my own for my getting used popping/jigging/dead bait drifting
...with one particular detail...when I searched the fridge for my beloved sardines I soon realized I have used all on the previous outings and fridge was empty
weatherman forecasted some wind in the early hours...I launched at 6:10 and had some choppy sea and wind coming from the South...and at 6:00 it's already too cold (spent the last 2 weeks with sore throat...from previous outing)
got to the same spot as before at 7:10...checked for the current...and guys...it was a total mess...wind from one direction...waves from another direction...2 weeks ago I was drifting at 1.7knt (engines off)...this time I was drifting at 0.6knt (engines off)
it took me about 1h30 of drifts alternating between jigging and popping to decide it was not the best conditions for that...and even for throlling it was not the best day
eventhough, I decided to set 2 lines out and throll for a bit and throlled in nowhere land (at least for me) on the way to Maputo...and eventually I had a strike and landed a rat couta
fish is still trying to understand what happened there...basically since the strike and all the way to gaffing distance fish didn't run and I thought I had a missed strike...only getting to gaffing distance fish decided to dive and run...useless try as it went straight to the fish box
this was nearly time to start my journey back...sea was bad...I had some stuff agreed with the gov and vice gov...so I cleared the lines and head back to Naval...and surprisingly from BX Ribeiro all the way to Naval (about 12nm) sea got flat like a pool
it's always nice to be out at sea...specially when there's the extra 4 nice suculent couta fillets
heard of another boat that launched and got 2 couta...and another boat blanked...all fishing same nowhere land areas although I couldn't see them

Fishing has been quite comatose... after about 2 months, we lauched last saturday just to see how things were going out in the deep... left the club at 7ish and managed 2 small YFT. Tried for couta but not a single bite on the rappies, sards on drift or slow troll. Got some nice bottoms.

Water temp was 17.5o C in the bay and 22.2o C out. Plenty of humpback whales and turtles. Bumpy sea in the morning but flat in the afternoon... we had some long swells 7-9' (Baixo Cutfield was breaking!), from strong winds a couple of days back... some baitfish around but not much... it was great to be out there. as always!

Winter is here!

Hi Marcos, glad to see you got out. Water temp in the bay is very cold...has anyone else got any fish of late? Waiting in anticipation to hear how the fishing is as we thinking of coming up in October...

been too long since someone wrote on this thread...
so here's another report to see if the thread comes alive

I decided to launch...2nd time in 1 week...going solo as I still don't have crew
last week went for a quick spin to test the engines and run against the low tide...it was a 2:30 spin and saw some crazy tuna action
big YFT like I've never seen working a bait ball...inside the bay
I only had 2 rods and trolled over them a few times with no luck...if I had a spinning rod I bet those YFT would take the spoon

with a nice Saturday forecast my plan was to try and chase those tuna with spinning gear...and some jigging and popping while doing some drifts with dead bait...and be back for lunch with the family
so by 7:00 I was already rolling...saw some dolphins inside the bay before Xefina island...and some more just after
got to a not so secret spot just 10nm from Naval and at 13mt deep I dropped my jig on a murky water...first drop and got a knock...and when the jig was about to come out of the water I saw trouble coming my way
a massive GT shadow came all the way up chasing the jig...no taker...but I saw I was going to have some action there
with Maputo in sight I kept dropping...getting knocks...and managed to ger 2 hook ups...landed and released both

I saw a massive shark fin circling the area...some more dolphins...2 turtles...then with 2 or 3 drifts over the area with no takers I decided to move towards Cockburn where I wanted to set my drifts and play bit with the jigging and popping gear
went over the area where I saw the tunas last week...but they were not in the area...so kept going and set the drift
1 massive mackie that JohnF gently offered me the day before...and 1 peanut size mackie
drifted for about 45minutes with "no" takers on the bait...and some knock on the jig...and when I decided to clear the lines and head back to the area to set another drift, the tiny mackie, trace, wire and swivel were gone...I was bitten trough over the swivel on the mono

went back to my mark...set the drift...and not long after I had my first strike...shy but I was on
hesitated on using the gaff...balanced the rat cuta to the boat...boing...knocked on the gunnel and back to the sea...I even tried to grab his tail but couldn't get it
argh...I was mad

set the drift again and while jigging got another GT...3rd for the day
I must say that it was crazy how clear the water was and the visibility all the way to the bottom...I could see the fish chasing the jig...I could see the fellow fish following the hooked fish
that was awesome

and later on I got another strike...this time a cuta on the jig...and another one on the mackie
I called the missus and told her I was going to be late for lunch as the cuta action just started...it was crazy the amount of knocks I was getting on the jigs and also on the bait
out of 7 mackies I took, all were taken
by 12:20 I took the lines out and came zooming fast all the way to Naval where I got just before the family arrived there for lunch
I was a wonderful day at sea

Thanks for reviving this thread...

Nice report, great fishing and awesome weather.... sorry I missed it but had a family emergency to attend to that day....

I eventually launched on Sunday and went to the same area... with a stiff Northerly wind puffing at 12-14 knots we tried for live bait and failled miserably.

Drifted baits on balloons and on the kite.

Got 2 rat couta and rushed back home to have a family late lunch... the couta never saw the freezer...
