Sea looks flat man what you on about. You need a Z bru not a z  :crzy

Well done on the saily if that first Marlin stuck it could of been a win on your first comp outing on FourPlay, hardluck, next time w;k

The lack of game fish in the area is a worry, maybe you need a cyclone to change the water conditions or we might have to tow our boats to the Cape to get into the crazy action that side  :creep:

I don't feel that sore camlmer seas give me bigger body sore aboard maguro/maximvs

but I have to say that we all felt a bit sick...2 of us tottaly KO the all trip

That's because we work hard for our fish... we don't spend the day just swimming plastics and drinking

also... you get wrecked after a day's fishing on maguro... NOT on Maximvs... small, crucial detail!  :crzy

Prego you right.... The lack of gamefish is puzzling and we still trying to figure that one out. Water temp is in the high 20's reaching 30o C and we have had some "winter" flat days in Jan/Feb?!  Even the spearo's have noticed and commented... there's hardly any pelagics out there...

Maybe the water is too warm, hopefully by march it will be cooler after a cyclone or 2  :shk

don't expect much re accomodation after this

forgot to mention one curious episode that spartan had yesterday
they had a marlin strike that broke their outrigger...and the rod holder where the ti80lb was on...all lost
we saw a marlin jumping crazy behind spartan when they said what happened to them on the radio
then a few guys were joking everytime they released a marlin...sorry spartan but this one was ti80lb free...we will find out on the next one

what do you guys think will happen?...will the fish be able to get loose of the hook and all attached gear?

Those Spartan okes are

Plastic rod holders for 80 Lb setups with the conditions we have here is asking for trouble!

Hopefully they were not using s/s hooks!

I think if that hook did not pull out that the Tiagra would of eventually tired out that fish and its now sitting at the bottom of the ocean  :-(

2nd leg of Clube Maritimo competition took place yesterday
as on the previous leg, weather forecast was slightly better for Sunday therefore comp was postponed from Saturday to Sunday
some North winds expected but weather calmed down during the night and on Sunday we launched (only 15boats this time) with flat seas in the bay...and first time for me...plenty dolphins just opposite Maritimo while we were waiting for the launching...nice sighting
sea got a bit rough in the usual Baixos da Inhaca...but in short time we were off the Baixos and in the open sea
we set lines at 07:00 close to Jeremias and start working the area to try for some gamefish before heading out to the deep areas in chase for the billfish

day was going to slow with nearly no activity (birds, bait and radio calls) and by 9:30 we start heading out to the deep where we stayed the rest of the day

slowly we start listening on the radio of some lost marlin and missed strikes...but very little numbers for what we been used to

in the end we got 5th place in the comp with just one dorie (12.8kg) and a wahoo (9kg)
Dan Dan wining with a saily and a marlin, Mon Ami with a marlin and some gamefish and Nana finishing the podium with a marlin

Dan Dan nearly didn't make it on time (17:00)...he was still fighting his marlin nearly 24nm away from Maputo when we left the fishing grounds at 15:45...by 16:00 we heard they released and we thought he couldn't make it on his yogi cat 16'' with 2x60hp 4stk...but the sea was really calm and he made it to the club just at 17:00...nice ending for them

launched yesterday in the morning to meet Anouck's family in Santa Maria
N was supposed to blow a bit during the weekend...and we were supposed to hit some 7knts wind so we were prepared for a bumpy ride...which didn't occur but we got wet all the way
we got there just before 9:00 and headed home to drop our stuff and for a shower before breakfast
I have planned with Marcelo (4play) to setup the outriggers...all the lines had to be replaced and we spent the rest of the morning doing that
by 13:00 we finish our job and we nearly went for a quick 1h session at bx santa maria...but we had some friends and family waiting for us for the afternoon social time so we couldn't make it...but we plan to go out Sunday

today after breakfast we went out for a short 2h session with the kids
beautiful day with nearly no wind and flat seas...weatherman playing again with us...we were supposed to have some stronger N wind
just after crossing hells gate we set the lines out...2 halfbeak on the outriggers and 3 rappies
not long after a saily come inquisitive to one of the HB...and after the strike he didn't commit...we even dropped back to check if he was gona come again but nada
I only took 4HB and both Marcelo and Zé Maria were not too happy with my HB lures...small 5''kona rigged with a single hook
replaced the HB and not long after we were on on one of the rappies
Zé Maria helped Noah to fight his first fish ever and after a short fight we had a 8kg YFT aboard... immediately called the wives home to say we had sashimi for lunch!!!
this was just 1/2h after we left the beach...so we thought we were gona have a very promissing day
while setting up again we spotted Kambaku coming in...chatted on the radio and he asked Zé Maria for some tips for fishing that area, unkown for Didi, owner of Kambaku...Zé Maria been going to Santa Maria since he was a little kid...and it's supposed to know the area very well
while we were chatting a wahoo gave as nice show going for the HB...a massive air...but again didn't commit and Zé Maria and Marcelo again gave me a hiding on the single hook on my HB lures
setup again and no more strikes on the HB...but the same rappie got a strike and Marcelo was helping small 6y Jamie to fight the fish...but Jamie wasn't strong enough and Marcelo kept fighting until gaffing distance when fish swift direction and got loose of the hook...bad luck
1h into the game and we were still only on 1fish on...3fish off
Kambaku called the day off working the same area we were working with a wahoo, 3 yft and a couta
we trolled for a few more and decided to give jigging a try at Bx Santa Maria...massive showings but not a single strike
we played for 1/2h but had no takers so we went back home for some sashimi time before heading back to Maputo
driving behind 4play gave me a nice soft ride...but even without 4play sea was too flat so I guess I would not have any trouble coming back home
we got here by 17:45 just before the sun set down
another nice weekend in Santa Maria
appart from us Nakisai also went out but blanked...Yolanda got 2 YFT

yesterday tool place 3rd leg of Clube Maritimo Comp
only 14 boats attended the comp...again due to weather forecast comp was postponed from Sat to Sun
very little wind, flat seas and warm temperature predicted...weatherman didn't go wrong...only issue was tide hours...we hit the Baixos da Inhaca with the tide going out and it tend to be a bumpy ride
departure was set for 6:00 and we got to the fishing grounds by 7:30...we were the first boat out with the rest of the fleet taking extra precautions in the bumpy area

we set lines and teasers out and worked the area for quite a while...and by 9:00 we had our first strike...and a double up on dories at the 370mts mark
we imediatly looked for some debir in the water as it's not common that kind of strikes and found a palm tree floating (aged as it was packed with crustaceous)
after a short fight we landed both fish and setup again for another pass by where we got another strike and our 3rd dorie
we kept working the area for 6/7 more times with no more strikes and till some other boat found us and started working the same area...but no more strikes for none of us

that's when we decided to go further out and again we were on for another dorie...this time a bigger one
when she was getting to gaffing distance a huge bull dorie came by and nearly went for the tag line that was hanging on the water after we cleared the lines...we didn't have a popping/spinning/jigging rod aboard and we gave it a try with a lure without success...the bull didn't want anything with us and kept going is way

from this time day went very quiet and only at the end of the day we had another strike and landed a small YFT

I was sitting on top of fourplay cabin and was able to watch the only marlin "fight" of the day...don't know if I can use the word "fight" as Yolanda ti50 was stripped in less then 2min...they were spooled and we watch the fish jumping behind the boat

it was a quiet day for all the fleet with very little to no catch...for the first time in probably 3y there was not a single released bill
I'm still holding thumbs for the results as from what I've heard only Cheetah might have scored more then ourselves with a 21kg dorie and a 6kg barracuda...only 2 of our fish scored...9kg and 7kg dorie...then the 2 dories on the 4.6kg range and the YFT
yolanda only scored a 11kg dorie so they will be behind us but I don't have the results yet...hopefuly we will have a podium

Nice one PB hard luck on the big girls but I think you will have better luck on the inside with drift baits this time of year.

yebo Reefs...I'm using the gopro on the pole stick (home made...got a gardenia pole and attached a rollbar mount to it)
then when there's action I just start the camera and film either the action in the boat and the UW when fish gets closer
basically when I'm watching the video (super slow motion) I pause and take stills from that...no editing after...all natural

I was just chatting to Prego that I'm loving the pole more then the trollpro...I'm thinking of selling the trollpro as I've been playing way more often with the pole then with the trollpro...trollpro it's nice when there's action...but UW you never know when you will have that

I recently bought the special diving housing for the HD Hero 2 and that also makes a big difference on the UW footage...there's plenty more light going for the video as on the Hero 3...although I reckon the Hero 3 also have automatic white balance and some other stuff better for UW
