Great report & well done on some nice fish there Pedro! (clap) In terms of your problem you had"today when I went to the club I soon found out what the problem was...carb 1 and 2 fuel hoses were out of place...no idea how that could happen but another element on the checklist before a outing". Not sure however as fate would have it on our last trip to Inhaca i also had fuel lines that had loosened and was leaking fuel. The reason was that my mate had pumped the fuel primer bulb way too much and the pressure resulted in the hoses being dislodged! Not sure if this was the reason for your fuel lines coming loose however thought i'd mention it!

I think you absolutely correct Sheldon as Pedro had just changed tank when this happened.

On a brighter note well done buddy really happy for you and  :resp: for releasing that majestic Geet during a comp. Well done on 2 PB's on one day almost 3 if you had landed the bull dorado.

I guess your suggestion might be the cause...it's a possibility
maybe when the mechanic did the carbs service didn't put the hose in place properly...or the SS hose tighteners are a bit soft and need to be replaced
but while swapping jerrys I did pumped some more fuel in...so we might have found the culprit for my stress return trip
thanks for the suggestion...and for the cheers

Saturday was my father in law bday...and we were invited again by Anouck's cousin to spend the weekend in Sta Maria
plan was to leave Saturday at 7:00...Fourplay and Maguro...but getting to the club and with 5 boats out of the sheds to launch and with Fourplay already in the ramp I was gona miss the tide going out very fast
so plans changed and I hook up on Fourplay...and walking down the ramp, or slipway as it's usual named, I found out where the name comes slipway comes from...mega crash with a non planned ?splits? (is this what's called to do that gym stuff where legs go each way??)
as I'm not a gymnast I landed over my left foot and slipped and scratched the knee and foot over those mussels on the ramp...swallen and bruised foot...today at work I can barely walk and wear shoes...but I have to...argh

so we headed to Sta Maria and by 8:30 we were there after the scenic route trough the canal on low tide...flat seas and beautiful weather...
after unloading the boat and getting home I decided to give it a try from the shore at some queenfish I saw jumping just next to Machangulo lodge
started with a needle nose plug but nada...then changed to a stickbait (Z-Claw)...and after a few casts I was on...but fish didn't commit...and not long after Marcelo showed up with the kids

North was supposed to blow from Saturday afternoon till Sunday...but there was a short gap that we could give it a try on the big blue...and we took the chance
smooth Hells Gate crossing with nearly no waves and we set the lines...3 rappies and 2 big konas...and the trollpro
getting to Baixo Sta Maria we start following some bird activity with tuna smacking at the surface...but after a few drifts and no takers we start playing with the spinning kits
spoons, poppers, stickbaits, bucktail jigs...nada...no takers
after 2h we headed back home as we had the bday boy and the rest of the family waiting for us
note...after 2h trolling and just after clearing the lines I realise that the trollpro was out of memory...so although I turned it on there was no recording...argh!!!!
I guess footage could have been great as we went over some tuna shoals, dorados, dolphins...

just before sunset I decided to give it a try again from the shore and going for a romantic walk with Anouck...
again just a strike but a no taker

Sunday I headed down to the beach at 6:45....I wanted to go for a short session before everyone wakes up...
it was a long night for all with plenty drinks and fun chatting

this time I went to the point and I started again with the same stick bait I had a strike the day before...and again another non taker strike
I knew fish was there...I could see them jumping and playing on the white water...but they were not taking my offer
Dylan (Marcelo's oldest) joined me at 9:00 when I was getting ready to head back home...weather was not great and there was some rain...but cause he join me I decided to stay a bit longer...
rigged his spinning kit with a red head plug and changed my stick bait for a silver spoon...and 2 casts after I was on...and after a short fight I photo and released a black tip kingy
I was using my Daiwa Exceller 802 with a Exceller 4000E loaded with 20lb braid and 40lb leader
Dylan asked me to change his plug for a spoon as well and we played for a bit more before heading back home

in the afternoon we decided to stay overnight and leave only today in the morning...so Dylan headed back to the beach for some fun at Machangulo beach...he had a good strike on a spoon and after a cool fight fish got loose

today I feel like a zombie after waking up at 5:20 and heading back to Maputo...with a weatherman prank...the predicted 8knt South blew up to 14knts South...so even on a 32'' cuddy yamaha we got a bumpy and wet ride

There's two type of people WRT to that slipway (actually three, no four!)...

i) those have never seen those barnacles up close;

ii) those that did (and take extra precautions!)

iii) those that did, take extra precautions (and still see the barnacles every now and then!)

i) and those that actually tend to get suspended by the pants while trying to jump from a boats bow!!!!  :hyst:

LOL those barnacle covered sipways can be nasty, i took a nasty tumble many years ago at the August Winds SKi boat club in St Lucia, took ages to heal.

due to municipal elections yesterday was a public holiday here in Moz
I took the opportunity to launch in the morning to go for a quick ride to test a new set of props on Maguro
Miguel (previous owner of Oba Oba) recently bought a 19' Tom Cat that came with 15 pitch 4 blades alu props
because he also has some 15 pitch 4 SS blades and wanted to test them on the Tom Cat I borrowed the 15 pitch 4 blades alu props

when I bought Maguro boat came with 13 pitch 3 blades and 15 pitch 3 blades
13 pitch boat would rev too much (6000rpm) and max speed was about 24knt
15 pitch boat would rev around 5700rpm and max speed was about 29knt
I also tested Maximvs 17 pitch and boat rev 5300rpm and max speed was about 32knt
so I have decided that was the right choice for the 60hp 2stroke yam and been very happy with them since Dec last year

so yesterday I tested for the first time the 15 pitch 4 blades...
first impression is boat rev 5500rpm and max speed was close to 30knt (though not the best conditions for racing)
I'm now able to plane on one engine easily...wasn't able to plane before with any of the above mentioned props

big test will be performed next saturday with 6th leg of Maritimo Competition...a full day competition will show me fuel consumption
although I like racing I rather save a few bucks on fuel rather then speeding

day ended with me diving at Naval's dock at low tide...just before loading the boat in the trailler and while I was waiting for the trailler to get to the ramp my sunglasses fell out of my head straight to the water...marked the spot and went there on low tide with my mask, a weight belt and booties...touched the bottom for 45min with no success (only collected some broken glass, plastic bags and rubish)...couldn't spot 1'' ahead (brown water) and quited after a while

new Oakley glasses bought in the USA on my last trip there
thing is those are not my boat/fishing glasses..more like a fashion ones..
boat glasses stay closer to the face and are more tight to prevent this situation
also..boat glasses are lighter

well bad luck and lesson learned..next time I'll wear boat glasses and put the fashion ones away
