Ooops.... didn't see it.... thanks for the update...

2 h 30 to fight a 98 kg marlin?!?!? Must have been on 30 Lb tackle?

Hard luck on Oba Oba! That area is a bit of a desert... any bait around Jeremias?

Ok... you guys should have stayed a while in the area... if there was bait around I'm sure something big was lurking around... maybe try catch some on your sticks and do some live baiting??

They DON'T do it. Period.  I've given them a few 18/0 circle hooks, but  :dunno:

In actual fact, no bait whatsoever is allowed on Oba Oba... can you imagine? They refused those juice half beaks of mine  :shk

last saturday took place the 3rd leg of Maritimo fishing competition
I have launched with Oba Oba (and not with MAXIMVS) together with Miguel and his father (living in Brazil and on holidays here in Moz)
arrived at the club at 5:00 for a 6:00 launch
sea was very calm with nearly no wind...forecast for the day was 0knt untill 14:00 which was confirmed and wind only picked up by 14:15...the weather man was rigth for once

because we blancked totally last time skipper decided to head North...so off we went to nowhere land

arriving at Xefina we had a minor problem with one of the engines...Miguel has been having some issues with the connectors of the batteries and everynow and then battery fails...Saturday was one of the days and after connectors cleaning we sailed North

just after crossing the low depht canal (very agitaded seas) we drop lines...some rapalas were set

we saw some birds and tunas on the surface and we try our luck...and we were lucky with a small YFT of about 4kg...it was Miguel's father turn has we didn't know how many strikes we were gona have

a few moments later we had a double strike...and 2 more YFT were caught...5.4kg and 4.6kg
so by 8:00 we had our pot and that was it

we headed North...then East towards the 400mts mark to work the mark heading South towards Baixo Danae
some tuna activity was spotted but we didn't even bother to cross the area for a closer look

by 15:00 we were back at the club

as usual after boat cleaning I wait for the others to arrive...and nearly no good size fish was caught
small couta, small YFT some nice Dollies (ranging from 8-15kg)
then Lucky Luke arrived...with a sailfish flag up in the outriger which was released safely...and a nice 16kg YFT
Oliver arrived with a short bill (23kg)...never saw one and it looks like a saily with no bill..really beautiful fish and a shame to be hanging at the scale and not swiming for another fight :(
then out of the blue Cafufo arrived with a 222kg Marlin...according to the crew they fought for 2h and when the fish came closer to the boat did a 200mts run and stopped...crew "whinched" the fish without fighting anymore...they then noticed the fish was dead

26th of May is the next leg but unfortunately I will be away in Swazi...so tight lines for all

@Prego: I only know of a 15 kg Yellow fin and some species that did not make the weight. Not sure how the whole fleet is going.

Just got an sms from the guys... Team Cormorant (from Clube Maritimo - only Moz team in the comp) was leading yesterday and got 2nd place today...

Good conditions today but fishing is slow with mostly tuna and couta being weighted...
