Unfortunately I dont have a pic of the 11-12 pound trout I caught in Alaska - but Id o have a pick of a smaller one caught on the Naknek river in King Salmon - Alaska. Here it is:

Basically we have rainbow trout and brown trout in South Africa. You can find them in various places where the water is cool enough. The main places in Natal are the Southern Drakensberg (although you also get them in the northern berg), Nottingham Road and the Dargle. There are a few other places but not as abundant in trout. In the W Cape, there are some fantastic rivers with small trout (Elandspad, Smalblaar etc) and some dams - again there are many other smaller concentrations. In the E Cap - the best area for river fishing is the Rhodes area and surrounds - also Ugie/Maclear. Stutterheim and hogsback also have trout. In Gauteng - there are small dams that have put and take trout - but no rivers. Then you have the area of Dullstroom in Mphumalanga (also around the Sabie area. In Limpopo there are a couple of places near Tzaneen. There are other places too - but these are the main ones.

Also do not forget that we also get golden trout, brook trout and the elusive silver salmon.

brook trout are scarce in SA - golden trout is a hybrid - as is the albino trout - never seen a silver salmon!

100% correct.

One place you can still get the silver salmon if you put in the hours is the big dam at trout hideaway.

See this: http://treeferns.co.za/flyfishing/trout-species-155/

By the way - the only place in Africa where trout are indigenous is the Atlas mountains in Morrocco

lol..it is odd hey

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Golden_trout

The silver salmon or landlocked salmon as described in Bill Hansfors-Steele's book "African Fly Fishing handbook" is not common.

Read this part about other salmonoids found in SA, he also photographed it
