From that pic I can't see a gully,hole,sandbank or gutter whatever you want to call it,so for me the formation is featureless,try to look for water with at least 2 of the things mentioned,if there is a gutter there usually is a sandbank next to it,then place your lure on the drop-off of the sandbank or in the gutter(deeper water)itself,because this is where the Kob will patrol to ambush baitfish that gets washed off the sandbank...the water there seems a little dead too,not enough movement and white water(foamy water),you've got a good selection of lures there so no reason to not catch kob,you've just got to learn to spot the "right" water to target them in,they also like discoloured(gingerbeer or peasoup colour)water during the day as they are ambush predators...compare your picture to some of these... http://www.ultimateangling.co.za/index.php?topic=7396.0 and http://www.ultimateangling.co.za/index.php?topic=7429.0 you will see the difference...

I just noticed that you don't have a two-tone metal spoon...copper one side and silver other side or just plain copper...

let it bounce on sandy bottoms causing the sand to be disturbed...

The picture of poenskop looks alot like the setup at vanneriets. Your pick is taken abit glat but if I had to make the call on what I can see, you can walk right up to the drop at the back and further more the swell is to flat for my liking.

I was fishing for leervis that day. that pic was taken on the turn of the tide. I had alot of follows but they would not commit. They only started hitting the lure as the tide start pushing. This was one of them. It was caught on the drop at the back.

Anyone fished with Clone Lures?

According to their sales pitch - they are deadly for cob. I have 2, (white & blue/purple) 2oz.

How should I fish them?

With any lure, no matter if its a spoon, paddle tail or bucktail, when fishing for cob you need to get as close to the bottom as possible. For me the light blue, olive and white colours work the best. I know there is guys fishing purple and dark green and gold with plenty of success. The most guys problem with cob on lure is there retrieve. It is most of the time to fast. In golder water you can even let it ly on the bottomfor afew second and twitch it once or twice every now and then. Let it free faal when it come of the bank into the gully.

The pink clone are the best for kob , hands down . And elf love the green ones. With lipped lure like rapalas the mullet colour are the best , they are scarce though . But seriously get yourself a pink clone . The clone guys are just as compitant as the adlocks . Clones are cheap too. They also are from pe . I have been very successfull , with the redheads and the carrot ( orange rapalas) in Transkei the kob goes bossies for the carrot.

And if your old school , try to get a couple of Havocs they are lipped lures similar to Rapalas , get a couple of weighted Trebles , and your good to go ! Havocs also hail from PE , and are very popular or were before everyone was fishing lighter and with braid and PD's . The big lipped lure fish better on a Multiplier setup .

Any luck with kob yet bubble boy? Also aiming to catch my first kob on lure this season; I do most of my fishing at Beachview/Maitlands surf, but no luck yet! But I will keep on trying until I get the right recipe all talking about!
I can tick some Leeries off for now, after a moer a lot of spinning in the surf, all 4 successfully released!
So,like the champs are all telling us, I will spin of my arms off like I am doing now, to catch my kob on lure with light tackle!!
Weather looking crappy for this weekend though, waiting for strong westerly to come through and will hit the surf again.

Tried several different spots. Van Stadens to Cape Receife - but nothing yet.

I want to try again on Sunday. but I am not sure what the gale force wind will do to the water that is blowing on Saturday.

Bubbleboy, that is a healthy collection of lures. We always fish with the quick release clips so we can change lures quickly. Alcocks sell those, they are really small clips and work really well. If we find that we are getting no action on a lure/s, we change and keep changing until something happens. Just an idea, if you are fishing the surf, look for other guys and maybe talk to them and see what they say. Some guys will offer you bad advice but some guys will tell you exactly what you are looking for on that spot where you are standing.

Don't get discouraged, the more you ask, the more you learn. Your bucketlist is very do-able!
