Pieter and I fished the same venue again today. Water temp at 07:00 was 11.5 deg, which is an improvement on 2 weeks ago, as was the air temp which was 8 deg. Visibility was again around 40 - 45 cm. There is a lot of detrious in the shallows, which when disturbed releases an awful stench.
Again very little surface activity so I tried the same tactics as 2 weeks ago. Missed a double knock and that was it.
Leaving the water at 11:00 the water temp had risen to 13.5.
Summer is definitely on it's way.
If we caught fish on every trip, it would be called " Catching". We don't, and that's why it's called "Fishing".

Fished woelwaters today. Morning session was a big blank with some notable "dives". This was done to test the water temp. After the morning crowd left I decided to try my luck again, and was rewarded with 2 nice muddies and a third that was lost when I fell over a rock that was not there earlier.

The problem was that this rock was 10m in and 1m deep. It was the second fall today but at least it was warmer in the afternoon!

We started of at 13~ish and my first fall was quite cold, by my last fall I would say it was "not to bad"
In the afternoon visibility was at 65cm which was the best I have ever seen on the vaal. The fish took a no18 black nymph.

Nice fish! that rock could of been the one that nailed me on the Umkomaas while fishing for yellows, or the one that caught me unawares on the Bell in Rhodes - I am told that there are some rocks who can teleport to anywhere!

I have also found that they move around, what makes me fall the most is when it was there and moved to go trip another angler

very cool!

I like the idea of the magnet clip on the net - not on the handle - nice idea to stop the net from catching on branches and stuff

Brief report back on a day out at Eendekuil.

A small group of decided to have a go at some early spring Yellowfish and decided to try Eendekuil as there is a nice variety of water to try.

First things first , there have been a few changes at the venue, prices have gone up to R 90.00 per day and Tim and Charmaine are almost finished building what look like some very nice flats on the property, not your usual rough and ready fishing huts but rather places that your significant other would feel comfortable sleeping in :) I will update you as soon as I have pricing from the Colliers.

The fishing was typically tough with few fish caught but what did come out was mainly big fish 2.6 kgs - 4.3 kgs, the most successful tactic was to cast across stream and let your flies drift and swing, the Yellows were taking the rising flies on the swing. Most productive flies were small 20-22 black nymphs with some action on white GRHEs in the late afternoon when there was a massive Caddis hatch.
