I went to GVP again yesterday afternoon. The temp must have  fallen 4deg between 10:00 and 13:00 when I got on the water. First front of the season and there I was on the river  :craz:

Un upstream wind was blowing and the fish were top feeding very sporadically with the rises few and far between and all over the place.

After trying nearly every fly in my box I blanked. Welcome to winter dry fly :crzy :hehe: .

The highlight of the trippie was a Kudu bull and cow crossing the mighty Vaal about 200 meters above where I was sitting. :happ: :happ: '

Please excuse the quality of the pics but they were taken on full zoom. ( I have sent them to Rory , maybe he can work some of his magic with them w;k  )
If we caught fish on every trip, it would be called " Catching". We don't, and that's why it's called "Fishing".

Great sighting Herman. Friends of mine have seen them crossing from the island at Strome a few times before. I am hoping to get out for largies over the long weekend. I will give you a shout if you are keen to join me for a bit of blanking :crzy
I'm a weekend drinker, I start on Saturday and end on Friday - Bill Hicks

(clap) Herman, what an awesome feeling it must have been to see the Kudu cross the river. I am sure it made up for the blanking.  :hehe:  :shre:

Thanks, the sighting sure did. :-)

A competent wader will take 30 minutes to cross the river where they did. They did it in less than 2 minutes.  :shk

:hehe: :hehe: :hehe: , You  are so right Darryl, we normally have three ( wading stick included ) untill you bail it, ( as the bull did  :shk ), then you realise that 6 legs wouldn't help.  :hnthnt:

Hi Herman, Where are you thinking of going on Friday PM ? I would love to learn more about winter fishing on the Vaal as it is a huge gap in my knowledge.
