So today was 1st cast 2012 for a bunch of us, all UA members (or afflilliated via family ). After last Fridays high flows we went to a venue above the Barrage, where as per normal ( for below the Vaal Dam wall ) the flows were 14 - 16 tons.

The day dawned clear with little wind and we were on the water by 07:30. Within 10 minutes of being in the water I knew the day was going to be a good one :-) .
I had been vas twice, Pieter, Rory, Martin all had bent rods at some time in those first 10 minutes.

It turned out to be my best day ever at that venue ( in 6 years  :-) ) My final tally being 9 muddies, 2 SM yellows and my PB LM Yellow ( 5.7 lbs )  :happ: :happ:  All my fish were taken on a Red Humpy's Favourite, except the 2 SM yellows which took the Black Mayfly nymph.

Too my knowledge the group were VAS with at least 30 fish, probably closer to 40. And this all in 3 hours of fishing.

Perfect Company, Perfect Day, Perfect Fishing, what more could one ask for to open the 2012 season. :happ: :happ:

A few pics.

2. Martin VAS
3. Rory VAS
If we caught fish on every trip, it would be called " Catching". We don't, and that's why it's called "Fishing".

A few more pics.

1. LM in the net
2 SM showing some spawning sores. ( The fish was still rough to the touch )
3. Chris aka OMR aka TOF , fighting a good fish which Rory had to wade back from the bank to land for him. :crzy :hehe:

P.S. Chris hooked a leader in the water, attached to a fish. :shk  The leader was Rory's which he had lost when returning said fish to water. Now ...................... Whose fish is it ???? Hooked, faught , landed and released by Rory, or............ OMR's, hooked leader, fought, landed and released fish, AFTER taking Rory's fly outof it's mouth  :shk  ?????????????????????

Now there's a nice conundrum to start the New Year on ,  :dunno: :hehe:
If we caught fish on every trip, it would be called " Catching". We don't, and that's why it's called "Fishing".

Thanks Andrew. I was really surprised to catch it all, never mind in the faster water above the twin rocks. :dunno: :-)

Last time I fished that venue we fished at 60 cumecs and OMR lost his hat in a dive  (clap)  Him and I stuck to the bank after that and had a memorable day.

Congrats on the great catches. Glad you got OMR away from One and All for a change.  :frid

Thanks for a super day on the river guys. More good news for that spot is that the stoneflies are back, which is generally considered to indicate the lack of pollution in a system. Considering how devoid of goggas that spot was a few months back, it looks like the chemical spill has been nullified! :clwn

What a great day on the water, lost more fish than I can count (good thing I dont teach math) and landed 2 muddies.
I landed one of those elusive "klip visse" that so often take your flies! It was safely returned to its natural habitat.

If this is an indication of the year to come then 2012 will be a great year!
And thank you to all who came from very far

@Hooch,

Here's my first post on the forum. If you want to know more ask Herman over the weekend. Enjoy the venue. See the fishing is brilliant there at the moment.
