Top spinning destinations
« on: September 13, 2013, 10:12:20 AM »
So I thought a list of good spinning spots both in SA and abroad would be a good idea. Perhaps if you have fished the spot people could add what makes the spot so great and any special species you may encounter. Such as couta or a good spot for kingies etc.

Somehow doubt you will get specific information on good spots. Justifiably so. Making these spots public knowledge generally lends to plunder.  :dunno:

Good idea!

I think some good KZN South Coast spots that should be included are :

Stiebel Point - Umzumbe - Great spinning from a rocky point into deep water for all kinds of gamefish including blacktip kingies, yellowtail kingies, garrick, snoek, shad and even the odd couta

Sandspit - Port Shepstone - Excellent spinning over sandbanks and gullies for garrick (September/October), shad, kob on dropshot, kingies and even that beaut 17kg tunny that was caught there a few weeks back!

Splash Rock - Port Edward - great access to deep water and all kinds of gamefish including garrick, kingies (big GT's caught there every year), shad and every now and then a couta off the bricks

There have been a few isolated break-ins where vehicles are parked near the beach, all vehicles should be locked and no visible items of value left in the car. I'd say about as safe as can be expected these days!

Bwana mentioned "Splash Rock" and couta off the bricks. I took this picture of a Couta of 161 cm,35kg that was caught at

Splash Rocks on 2011-12-20. The catch was made by oom Cassie de Clark, a Local angler from Port Edward.Duration of

the fight was only 30min.A sight you can only believe after seeing  it yourself. The catch of a lifetime !
