Am report on our East Coast from Gonubie to Kei

Jip..howzit SAfish...when I sit back and think about it...we at times as humans do miss alot in the greater scheme of things as far as nature goes....So , yes Im really thankful that I saw what I saw...

Mornings Colin...jip ..so right you are....what I am really pleased about is the fact I saw 6 otter...I have always on the odd accassion seen two BUT never 6 ....AND these are local otters , so really good to see a healthy little community like that

Thanks for sharing, such a special morning... It's amazing how much you can see when you are on your own. I fish a lot on my own and I too, was lucky enough to see otters (my first time ever in the wild) a year or so ago. At the time, I realised that had I been fishing with friends or my kids, we probably would not have seen them (specially with my eldest daughter, who talks incessantly :D... but I love her to bits). I have also snuck up on many a croc, buck, some incredible bird life... I enjoy fishing with mates, but I also enjoy my own company quite a bit too.

Well after gooing this weekend in almost pristine conditions...the east puffed on Sunday and Monday arrived with a rising baro again and after work the tide looked good and the water temp was down to 19 inshore...
The kobbies were on line as that sun set...3 landed and one dropped  ....A BEAUT SESSION!!!

Once again timing the conditions...

  ..SL30 will be getting a new main shaft bearing and a new shaft...then I got some of those beauty kwik clips and I see pricing is still good...NOW..line to me is always a issue...first of all its Sooooo expensive....secondly I am no pro AND thirdly with spinning all the time ie throwing over bricks it takes a beating...no matter how good the abrasion temperament is , stretch factor etc etc...I still cannot justify nearly R200.00 for 600m of ,40 or ,45 line ..


Soo..my present line is getting low and I start looking and happen upon this Elbe stuff ..1000m for R115.00...BARGAIN!!!...


Well the proof is in the pudding or in this case the casting etc etc...we will see... ..


Will give some feedback here...I see Elbe also produce a MEGA abrasion line ...wonder how pricey that would be??...

Thanks for that , that answers ONE of my important questions...YES I do agree Sufix is better BUT for 600m its now nearly 200 bucs..


Soo...when I saw this for R115.00 I thought give it a shot....BUT thanks , will certainly test those knots...Im keen to see how it casts...

If I can recall it casts very well but of average strength and low knot strength..It didn't stand up to my fishing but casted well. I am sure spinning for a cobbie it's just fine..just give a few extra loops on your knots and test them well..If I can recall knots with doubled up DID NOT work with it, they slipped through everytime when tested, never had a line that slippery.

Thanks for the info , also went out to another local tackle shop and got a reel of 600m Rovex .45 on special for R90.00...normally this sells for around R120.00....so gonna test them for sure...

  Good day East Coasters , well after last weekends smashing conditions we are in for a real blow out this coming weekend... ..Besides the rain , which is most welcome , the high pressure sitting just off of our coast will make sure that beastly eastly puffs firmly from early AM tomorrow right through the whole weekend...


The baro is at 1014hpk and rising , will peak out at 1024hpk by Sunday mid morning   BUT I am afraid that east will do us in as far as having decent fish...


The water , when I checked yesterday was still pretty grubby and chilly , but should warm up a bit with the west blowing at the moment..


We coming off of a dark moon spring , so those venturing out please be alert as the swell is up and predicted to run inshore between 9 to 11 foot...a surge is expected ..


Awkward tides for our Jikelkeza with a high at 05h32 tomorrow and at 05h57 on Sunday...


IF the wind is not up tomorrow morning then this would be your best window to fish...

TIGHT LINES and JUST GO FISH!!!

  Well mornings Folks , well well was I surprised this weekend....with the prediction of an iffy weekends fishing and BEEG east winds expected , Saturday dawned with very light air and by the time I got home from work at 13h00 the air was still very light AND the sea really looked good ..not big at all...[/size]So quick change and down to my spot for at least an hour or so throwing...after about 15 throws lucked into a small shad and the next half hour was busy hooking shad afetr shad ..all small BUT lotsa bait fish in the water...I thought I would and could work through the shad and the kobbies MUST be around BUT not to be and the west actually came through stiffly...Onto Sunday and once again . very light air in the morning and I waited untill that outgoing tide was nearer to low and popped down to my spot again...onjce again the shad were still in attendance and couldnt work through them befor the east chased me off of the rocks ...So..all in all quite an entertaining fishing weekend to say the least ..sorry no pics BUT its a wet spot I throw off of and the shad all  released at my feet....

I've noticed that weather forecasts recently have become very erratic... From spot on to way off. I've also seen that on a 10 day forecast, the picture can change radically from day to day. I wonder if that has any correlation to the extremes that the world is experiencing weather wise.

  Look we must also realise that the Earth has tilted ever so slightly on its axis over the past 50 odd years according to the boffins out there and this in its self would affect climate and weather patterns...I dunno too much about this global warming theory ...sounds like a huge money making thing BUT yes due to deforresting and the Amazon being invaded by humans has alot to due with the carbon oxide content in our air...so its all related I am afraid...
