I dont have access at the mo but know that water at dassen was 13,5 today and very few tail seen/ came out. This does not mean that is the temp in the deep but in all likelyhood the deep will not be good at the mo with all this SE but it is needed to bring in the warm water from the east... I will check out the charts when I get a chance. Was planning to move my tupperware to Hout Bay but think I am gonna scrap that Idea this season as will only get to cape in feb and then struis will be in full swing!!

SAfish I saw on KADA's website that guys have caught YFT off Knysna, any idea if this is a regular occurance or is it only when the warm water pushes in close enough offshore?

It happens every now and then, but not every year. I have spoken to an old guy the other day about this. He told that a couple of years ago the YFT were close to the shore and the guys would launch their boats after work to go and catch a couple. It is a rare occurrence but it does happen. I mean, a guy caught a Dorado in the lagoon last summer so anything is possible.  :hehe: :hnthnt:

Ok cool, hopefully it happens this December!! :hnthnt: Would love to check out the offshore SST charts for that day the guy caught that Dorado  :shk the warm water must've been damn close in! Actually does anyone know where I can get hold of old SST charts for Dec 2013?

The water temperature is always a lot higher the further you travel up the lagoon. Above the white bridge it can reach 27 - 28 degrees in summer.

Hey Guys,

It looks like the tuna have arrived in decent numbers, with some really classy fish being caught last weekend near the canyon and further south... Lets hope that they don't disappear after this weather...

Happy fishing
Byron

Plenty fish, just nothing exceptional so far. Tuna are around, some days better than others, 30-80kg fish. Smaller class came into False bay this week - even the trekkies got some in Fish Hoek!
Tail are between the Point and Robben - just depends on temp and wind. Last week we found them 5 miles off at the current line.
Couple of billfish seen and 2 released.
Think we going to have a late season bite as well.

This has been a really weird season weather wise. The wind has not settled for a decent period and the fish have been feast or famine.

Snoek have now become like hens teeth although a few fish have been caught in Buffels the last week. Yellowtail are like rabbits in a magicians hat, now you see them, now you don't. 2 weeks ago we had plenty of fish at Cape Point - now it is 12 degrees and empty.
But we are having a mackerel run in quantities that we have not had for many years. Nice size fish and great fun on fly and ultra light tackle, Also very good in the smoker.

Our tuna disappeared for a month or so (very slim pickings) but then came back last week in full force. From 10 miles past the Point outwards they are there in numbers. Trolling, bait, spearing are all working, with Pink being the popular colour.
Billfish have been full of nonsense, when we have the right conditions we have been successful - very hard trying to find the right temp, colour and water this year though. We are 4,3,2 so far this season in the Cape.

We have spent quite a bit of time coaching juniors for next seasons comps and it is always nice to get them into fish. The 2 senior members of the junior team were quite bleak they got nothing over 60kgs for the season so far, but the youngest managed a nice albacore (longfin tuna) of 24kgs.

If the weather plays ball, the season should last another 3 months and the fish should just get bigger.
