Hi everyone
It would seem the good news is here!
I decided to take my boat out of the water today so that I could do
the annual anti-foul and facelift. Those in the know all went to sea
because by taking my boat out of the water, I was tempting the
yellowfin to come out of hiding. I am sure you have all heard of the
old "Murphy's Law" thing. Well, good old Murphy did not let me down.
The Yellowfin did indeed come out of hiding and today showed the first
really good fish of the season. i had to console myself by watching
fish get offloaded. Some really big ones too. The smallest I saw was
60kg and i heard reports of fish of over 90kg. Tallies of up to 6 or 7
fish per boat too.
This is a very similar start to what we had last season. First the
really big fish in smaller numbers and then the numbers of fish in the
40 to 50kg class. Lets hope it augers well for the coming season.
Things are looking a damn side better than April/May.
Fish were mostly caught behind longliners in the usual area just west
of the canyon.
Dust off the boats and reels (this should have been done already) and
get out there. Some strong SE coming, but after that it should be
"game on". These big fish can be very sly, go as light as you dare on
the tackle, make sure your fluoro-carbon is good and try to use
whatever bait the fish are feeding on. Eg Behind a longliner, use hake
that has fallen off the longlines. try a heart too...........
