:cnfzd been in CT for 2 weeks and had some really foul weather but did get several good days. Managed theee days on the sea and water ranged from 15 deg in Hout bay where we launched to the best we had was 17.4deg 10miles from the Canyon. We got good tail on every trip and only ran to the deep once.

On Tuesday 23 Sept, we launched from Hout Bay and headed to the point, myself and a mate tony with our three boys in tow and lots of spinning gear. Each boy got some tail wirh katonkle in the mix, conditions were all time and water maxing at 16deg. The fish were on the bottom and mostly landed on 150g jigs.. Orange being the flavour of the day. The fish were in the west of southwest reefs.

Tuesday 1 October
Launched again from Hout Bay,
We managed to pull up behind a long liner pulling up her lines and had marks on the sounder but no takes. We gaffed some fresh hake and headed home with six tail from the point. The conditions were perfect despite the west comming up a bit at about 11h00 it later died off with almost not swell. JP surived his first offshore trip and got his first tail! Great day.

Thursday 3 October,
3 of us headed out of HB to the point and intended to be in at lunch time.
Never set a deadline!! Watet was between 16-17deg at the point. We ended up on SW reefs and caught 20 fish out of one shoal. Rob jumped in as the water colour was good and shot 3 fish. We decided to call it a day at that and headed home.

The Tuna are out there but we did not put in the time despite the weater and temp being just right. I think that after this bit of SE things will come on. The colour and temp is all right for those big yellows..

Some happy snaps of our days out...

Thanks Braham...
I am back at work  :vio ... but will give you what I have - which is not very much!
There still plenty of tail about and reports of plenty of small guys on the bottom now all the way to Blougansie near the 12 mile (Struis- I have confirmed this with the locals there) and still some at Dassen and in between at the point - when the guys last got out. The SST shows the water as very patchy and a good SE blow is needed for a few days to bring in the warmer water from the East, which sitting south of Mossel bay. The patch of cold water south of the point is not very promising but there is 16deg in the west and there will be big YFT there but all the guys seem to be waiting for everyone else to go out and find them. No one want to risk the fuel for a blank...
Thursday shows a good SE blow of 16 to 22 knots but then the east (ESE) blows hard after that which will prob mess it up again! but by Sunday it shows a big SE of up to 38knots. I know the Macassar - Strand guys like the onshore to bring in the warm dirty stuff with the Kob and there little friends... :shrk:
The Tuna compis are lined up so I will hope for great fish for all the guys who plan to chase the YFTs and will update as soon as I have some more info.

Lets bump this thread up with some news from my side !!!!!

so the Yellowtail has been Chowing THICK , everytime the Wind turns from SSE / SE to SW , its ON .

I have site on some Comms , and its just amazing to se the amounts of fish out there , Quality fish .

Last week and Saterday , it Started properly , with 6 to 8 bins Man/man , mixed sized fish mostly smaller 3's but fish up to 12 kgs .

3 days ago , The donkeys came on the bite , still in large numbers 10 to 20 kg fish [ I did not go out , I pulled an all nighter with a blank from the shore ]
Yesterday , agian good sized fish , not as good , but still mostly 6 to 9 kg fish , 5 to 7 bins man/man some guys missioned a marathon session and were rewarded with 7 to 9 bins man/man .

Another comm Crew member that I know , on Pegleg , he hooked a Marlin , whilst he was pulling a Tail , first time I have heard of something like this , but not uncommon according to the 'manne'

The fish is on the 12mile , but the guys have been drifting 3 NM past the Marks and are still in the fish .

So by the looks of things the Yellowtail fishery here are in PRESTINE order , its crazy to see how many there are out there .
Bait the old trusty Occyleg , or tjokka and Pike combo .
The Pike or Pilchard is just there to feed the millions of Silverfish , on your way down .

I dont know of one boat RECS that did not fill their Quotas the past couple of days .
I am resting to see if I can catch a lift out Tonite.

Sea is full of life.
Plenty of tail and katonkel at the Point and yellowfin and skippies 5 miles off. NW is not pleasant but sure brings the fish onto the bite.
Had a ball on light tackle yesterday.

Had a ball on light tackle yesterday.
Grew up in Simontown and NW always seemed to aid the fishing, warming water up,culminating in Tail arriving.Caught plenty from the old Simonstown Bullnose with full live Mackie on.GREAT FUNNNN!

Old days would also see masses of Horse Mackerel in Simonstown and surrounds. One Mackerel caught at Bull Nose was initially mistaken for a Yellowtail it was so large.

Guys catching from shore near Simonstown station usually get Tail after NW.

Trekkers got some Tail on Thursday off beach at Fish Hoek, nothing yesterday, water was too clear after NW.

Black Marlin was mentioned-I recall Celebs like John Paul Young would esp come to the Cape from abroad to fish for Marlin at Cape Point.Don't hear much about these catches anymore though.
Cheers!
