Unlucky Trevor but as you say no the right condition to be toying with the light stuff. How far out did you have to go to find the warm water?

Had two days on the water on Tycoon off Richards Bay with awesome blue water pushing in over the 50m line and improving every day. Went deep on the first day and found good flying fish and birds on the 1000m line where we landed a 25kg  :dor:  Dorado and a 65 kg  :yft:  Yellowfin. Had a marlin in the spread but no strike.
Second day we went deep again looking for some more fish for the pot and hooked a bus Yellowfin that spooled the 130lb. Unfortunately the hooks pulled close to the boat after a very strong fight on solid drag. Didnt see the fish but it had to be in the 80 -100kg class judging by the fight. We only did a half day which didnt leave much time out there but there are certainly some quality fish out there. The boat Madness dropped two marlin on Friday and released one on the inside on Saturday so the season is off and running very nicely and should only improve with each day this current establishes itself!
Tite lines all! :billf: :billf: :billf:
Nice one there with, Takkie`s son and Micheal. See you guys early Dec, Micheal got two nice YFT of 81 and 89kgs two weeks ago on his boat.
Cheers
Juan

I don't get it, Trevor and please forgive my question: why would deploy 30 Lb setups in those conditions? Anything big might show up and you'd surely be under gunned (as was the case)!?!

Thanks for the updates... They are here, all we need is some good weather...

Yep you right John, there just is no cure for stupidity  .
The problem is that I have been chasing this record for a while and have limited opportunities to fish myself once the holiday season starts and Im full time chartering. To make things worse we have been in R Bay for over a month and with the weather and admin I have been doing it gives even less chance. :rain: :rain: :rain:
To make things even more tricky I have found that these fish behave totally unpredictably when on light tackle and do totally different things on the run when there is no drag on them.  :shk The last fish stayed down and made it impossible to chase as we had no idea which direction it was running in.  :dunno: Hence my theory it was a black :billf: . We saw the dorsal so it was definitely a marlin.
All ot the above makes it a major challenge and even when its not quite perfect (and lets face it we may wait a year for that with the present weather!) Im prepared to give it a go.
Have had a 500lb fish at the boat on the leader after 3 hours and lost it when it went uder the boat. This was due to the fact that I was trying to do the entire job myself while my son drove the boat for the first time!  duh Crazy one would say - absolutely but what a rush if one succeeds!! :yipee:
Anyway its all about a bigger challenge, and sure one needs the perfect conditions. Problem is as in life it is seldom perfect so what the hell we just going to go for it regardless...Stupid is what stupid does!! :hyst:

ps: It helps when one has the kind sponsor of BIG T lures  when donating a rig is a huge possibility!

Looking forward to the day we can put the final report on the capture together with pictures!!

:fshn: STAND BYE ON THIS ONE!!  :fshn:

Out today for the first time since the raging weather to find a big swell running and discoloured water out to the 400m line(Thanks buster SW). Got 2 nice Dorado on 30 lb but no action from the big girls. NE Wind blew us home early but its good to see some game fish making an appearance and with two days NE forecast, the water should push in and clean up quickly . Wondering how the guys went at Soddies today, sure there were a good few boats out!

At last some weather to fish in..flat sea for a day..what!! Raised 3 blues today dropped a bus early then a rat and released a nice blue of 400+. Maintained the 100% record on charters since last season--chuffed! All fish before 10am! Slow day at Oet only 8 fish and all this morning too. Out again tomorrow hoping to correct the hookup ratio! :fshn:

Slower day today with the dropping glass but managed another Blue :billf: to sort the hookup ratio to the 50% mark which sounds a bit better. Fanus and crew had a great day at the death and two marlin in two days is hard to beat on a charter anywhere in the world. OET much quieter today as well.

Unfortunately no pics of today but plenty action. Skippered Wayne Ritchies new Citation in pretty heavy conditions(NE). Had a fish up and fed it a strip on the 30lb - freespool, hookup and all...got spat after 40m run, brought it back up to the spread and it switched onto the shotgun, hooked up, jumped twice and waved goodbye. Perfect 120 kg fish for 30lb..#$@%.
Had another smash on the shotgun an hour later but no hookup. Birds are back with some flying fish. Looking fantastic and we are on the poorest moon phase. Think its going to get crazy in the next 3 weeks ....yeeha! :geet :geet

Well so much for the good fishing in good weather. Had two days fiddling on 30 lb in flat seas and no takers. Seems the fishing has slowed in Soddies as well. Last quarter moon phase and some cooler water that has pushed in hasnt helped.  Was a fish boated yesterday and BOYANCE released a  400lb fish today. Best we could do was raise two small Stripeys that knocked the clips out and left..very disappointing but thats the game! Some good water coming down again so hopefully an improvement soon. Will be out as soon as the weather gives us a gap again. :tite
