Hooked on the 16th of December
« on: December 19, 2011, 10:02:17 AM »
This is not quite the report I was hoping to post when I went looking for some barbel at Roodeplaat on Friday (16/12).

The aim was to target some of the barbel using art lure having had some success on both fly and lure in November.

Was a lovely afternoon, and I had a few on/offs until I managed to get hooked into a new PB! The only problem was the removal off the hook and subsequent release.

The pics will tell the story better.....

Finally got rid of the fly inspecting the silly man catching himself and managed to get cut the hook.

Struggled for a while and then realised that I did not have enough bend in the hook to push it through and being a new lure it still hadthe barb in, so pulling it out was WAY to sore at that stage!

Ended up going to Faerie Glen ER!

The first reaction of the doc on call was to cut it out... :shk  Aikona!!!

Used some reverse psychology on him, talking about how the doctors at the coast can remove these (and far bigger hooks) without cutting.

He gave me to rather painful local injections and a minute later we managed to get it out. I say we, because I tried and still wanted to cut so (to the dismay of the nurse) I took his pliers and managed to get it out the way it went in. Very easy to do when there is no feeling there  :hehe:

But I did feel all of it when the "life" came back two hours later!!!!

My sincerest Apologies JS!

We should go try in the new year sometime.

I found Oct - Dec and Feb, Mar really good, especially of the water level has dropped a bit!

Some pics of fish caught on fly and lure.

Ok so lesson 1 from the how to Fish 101Hand book - Standloper Hooks are made for Fish not Humans.
Lesson 2 - Thumbs are a bad place to try and store your hooks and lures ( it may look Sexy but not sure if it is going to become a new trend) :crzy

Did you go back and continue fishing at least?

  Sadly no. The water in that dam is way too dirty to risk any "open" wound.

Plus I am way to much of a sissy.... After trying to get that hook out for about twnety minutes and almost wetting myself in the process, I gave it up for a bad job.
