WOW with the cold water did not think this was possible. Was not saying it was a lie just now days with photoshop you never know if its a hoax or not thats why I posed the question.
I was in Knysna this past holiday and if I landed a  :dor: I think I would have thought I was going crazy

Me too, photoshop was the first thing that came to mind and a lot of people here in Knysna has a hard time believing it. But it is good news for me that this is possible. Also a few Bonito was caught of Featherbed in the lagoon as well.

The water off Featherbed is deep and the currents can be very strong in that area, I'm not surprised that they caught Bonito.

What bonito?? Kawakawa often enter estuary systems, I have caught them in Durban bay and Inhambane Bay far up, I have also caught a number of couta in Inhambane bay and have seen a sailfish that was netted there in the mouth. My wife also caught a dollie at backline while fishing for snoek, but that oke must have been lost and confused - very fine catch though :rck"

Any other pics to show the true size?? IMO its not 18kgs.

Any news of the approaching Red Tide?

SANPARKS put out a warning of a Red Tide approaching the Eastern   Cape/Knysna area and were warning people not to eat any shellfish or   inertebrates for the next few weeks?

Thanks for the heads up, Reefman. We only arrived back home last night and I will try and get more information. At the moment the lagoon and entire coastal waters are brown from all the rain we had last week. Maybe the flood waters flushed the red tide out?  :dunno:

It could feed it, flood water often carries a lot of nutrients especially a flash flood  :dunno: let us hope not, such a stunning area

Update on the red tide: "Subsequent to last week's warning of red tide in Knysna, additional water samples collected from three areas in the Knysna estuary over the weekend indicated that the bloom has degraded significantly. . . . "

Yes, but I will still wait a bit before eating anything that comes out of the lagoon. In the meantime I will practice catching them.  :fshn: :grk:

:hehe: Tell me about it! The weather looks good for a spinning session this weekend so I will have to get a session or two in before Sunday. I am off to Mozambique for a week. Unfortunately the trip is work related but lets call it a scouting mission for future fishing trips.  :hnthnt:

Water seems to be back to normal. And from the report I got fishing was not that great for the leeries. I hope they will come back on the bite as I tried on a few occasions without even seeing a fish never mind a chase or a strike. :grk:

                        Knysna red tide warning2014-01-20 16:45
Multimedia   ·   User   Galleries   ·   News in Pictures   Send us your pictures  ·  Send us your stories               Related Links                     kalahari.com            Cape Town - Further warning of a so-called red tide in the Knysna estuary on   the Cape south coast was issued by SA National Parks on Monday.
"Authorities - including SANParks, Knysna Municipality and the Knysna Basin   Project - are cautioning against the collection of shellfish from the Knysna   estuary until further notice," it said in a statement.
A red tide is the common name for an algal bloom involving large   concentrations of red or brown coloured micro-organisms. These can become   concentrated in filter feeders such as mussels and oysters, making them   poisonous to humans.
Other types of shellfish, including abalone, are also affected.
SANParks said possible evidence of a red tide was seen from the Knysna Heads   on Sunday afternoon.
The warning follows a similar one issued for the area two weeks ago.

I received some interesting news from the boat club.
A Garrick was caught in June and it was tagged 7 months earlier. During that time the fish gained 12cm in length and 2.61kg.  :win:
The max water temperature in the summer was 28 degrees but it came down now to only 8 degrees.  :shk

It is a beautiful day here and I decided to go for a spinning session to see if the Leeries are hungry. The water was a bit on the cold side but otherwise perfect. Just look at this spot and it is less than 5 minutes walk from my house.  w;k
Although I saw a nice sized fish swim I did not catch anything but it was still great to go out and enjoy the moment. We truly Blessed to call this awesome place home.
