okuma makaira 80lb reel repair
« on: March 19, 2018, 04:25:54 PM »
Hi
Can any one , give me contact detail for someone that can repair my Okuma Makaira  80lb reel .

The reel was about 6 months old , when we got a problem with it , when you turn the handle it is free , like the gears are not engaged ,

I had it back with Fishing pro shop , where i purchased it from , they had it for about 3 months to repair , when i picked it up it seemed like it is working , but when it was on the rod and a lure in the water , we could not reel in the line ,  I had it back with them and was told that they will send it to there supplier,  i followed up on a weekly basis and after 9 month received the reel back ,  The importers Sensation can not work on the reel and send it out to some one ells , i received it back with the same problem .

I am in Pretoria , so Pta / JHB will be the best but if not a can make a plan to get it elsewhere

Its not your issue to get the reel fixed, its their problem as it is a malfunctioning reel. The importers having it for 9 months means that they know its an issue and have returned the reel unable to fix it.

I reckon they should refund your money or give you a new replacement reel.

Kes sums it up. My guess, sounds like a pin/key is worm out or loose
I'm no pro, feeling bad for you, if you'd like I can have a look, no charge

Thanks, for the advice , I would rather pay to get the reel repair and back then having to deal with the importers again , or the shop where i got it from ,
I agree it should be a warranty repair ,

I did open it but can not see anything worn out .  I was thinking more that a shaft was bend , or something like that. When it was in for repair they said that there was a spring broken ,

I will talk the CDS angling and see if they can help

Lesson learned  : Never buy a Okuma reel  !

thanks again

Best way to ruin a great product and an emerging brand: lousy customer service!!!!

I have 4 Okuma Makaira reels (2× 30 and 2x50), and have been happy with them. But looks like Shimano is THE brand in this part of the world.... SAD!

I meant specifically offshore big game conventional reels. Daiwa stopped producing those years ago!

I'm sure these can be used offshore? Stand corrected though

Yes, one can use those offshore. But those are all spinning reels, not offshore big game conventional reels. Especially in the context oh MichaelH's original post... 80Lb reel for marlin and other big game.

Ok cool, I understand. Thought we were talking about grinder reels. I see now that it is a conventional reel we talking about..

After the discussion here ,I had a call from Johan of the Fishing pro shop , he ask me to bring the reel back to him , he would like to sort it out for me

I send it to him and after 2 week go a call with the good news that the reel was send back to Sensation and they did repair it ,

I received it back and i do look like there was work done to it and that it is working , I have not tested it yet .

I was also told that if the problem is not sorted this time around that i would get a full refund

thanks Johan for your effort , I will let you know ones i have used the reel , if the problem was solved

That's better! Why couldn't they do that first time round?
