Baiting up with Circles
« on: February 06, 2014, 10:54:11 AM »

Ok, here goes nothing.....

Best method to bait these hooks (Owner SSW In-line) for a cutlet or fillet bait is the Darkshark dingle dangle.....simple! Add some toothpicks through the foam for support. This really helps to secure the bait. Remember to change them after every bait, the toothpicks, the dd is good for quite a few fish normally..

I have tried my own home made dd's and they are nice but these just present the bait better!

I am gonna use asimilar sized piece of foam for a Y' tail head.

I landed all my fish on this method....which is exactly how we originally baited them. Worked perfecty...

Or you could use a dacron bridle...only reason I didn't was because I didn't have any....

I also use heavy gauge bait cotton to secure the bridle instead of a cable tie....much neater!

Sorry for the limited detail but this really is as simple as it should be. Less time at your bait box means more time in the water. Also the nice thing with both the the dd and bridle is that you can pre-rig before you reel in, shortens the "out of water" time massively!

Nice post Craig  :+ cred: would you bait up smaller baits in the same way? Like a sardine fillet on size 2 circle? Would that work?

Then I would use a strip of hair curler as Henning showed in one of the first editions of Rising Tide. Cheap, quick and effective. Add foam to curler for floatation.

Fished a circle hook with a bait holder hook in a hair rig , baiting only the bait holder . Worked lika a charm for Bloemhofs Cats .

Will this style Circle Hair rig work  in the big Blue Sea ???

Nice one! I found dacron works best. I use a bait needle to get the dacron through the foam. Works like a charm on smaller baits.

Make your own... very easy, with many different types of configurations.
I jammed foam inside and put some piano wire through for attachment and loops for clipping a sinker at the bottom...

hi Reefs, just an observation...would it not be better to use a small piece of heatshrink over the loop that's taking the hook...just so that the hook don't dislodge too easily...? :dunno: the hook is then pushed through the heatshrink and loop... :clwn

:shk .. scrunchies , curlers .. are u sure its about fishing .. :hyst: , jokes aside though the dingle dangles are relatively simple to make using piano wire , i use the thicker one not sure of the breaking strain , but easier to work with , excellent post Sylvester , like u say no rules , just guide lines as long as it works and you get the pulls .. :Like:  , right im off to buy some curlers.... :rotfl

Ja definitely. That's the idea.
Otherwise, I just use one of those little foam FW beads that goes just over the barb of the hook, keeps the hook on.

Hiya Lichia.

I use a similar rig for live bait fishing in the big blue.
The hair rig is much shorter and small no 1 hook (or smaller) and actually puts the bait holder inside the bend of the larger hook.
Bait up the baby hook, catch a guppy and hold on.
The big hook positions itself next to the body of the livey which is perfect for the big fish to swallow with the livey.
I'm going fishing, I'm going fishing, I'm going fishing

This is what I did with mine...
