Am report on our East Coast from Gonubie to Kei

  Mornings East Coasters...well as I write this , the shad have made themselves know and most of our Jikeleza deep water points have been producing shad....Now while shad is not the ONLY fish around ...it is at this time of the year when there is quite a nice electric vibe in the fishing fraternity AND Ive often come across people chatting WHO dont fish asking ...are the shad here yet???...[/size]Soo...its a great time ..it keeps the fisherman busy and where the shad are there is always frenetic action and many fisherman busy planning their weekend outings around these feisty fighting fish...[/color]
NOW..what the shad do do is attract larger predators and as we know shad always are present where the food is ..ie bait fish and in particular sardines!!!...Small pockets of these little silver wonders have been past our coast line and in the next months to come we hope to see a lot more sardine activity..
With this in mind , we are coming up to a damn fine condition looking weekend with the present systems off our coast at this time of writing....The water is still a chilly 16 BUT it has cleaned up and there is a fair 3 to 4 foot swell running with no wash or surge expected...
We on a nip tide weekend and tomorrow you have a low of 04h00 and on Sunday at 05h45...These tides are good for thos pushing tide spots along the Jikeleza and still low enough for those early AM sessions at most deep water points......Cintsa...Gonubie ...Kwelerga comes to mind.......Queensberry bay also will give you an opportunity...
Remember Folks , be safety aware during the shad frenzy sessions as most want to be in THE ZONE for shad and at times it can get congested...Those sard boxes also need to be put into rubbish bins and not left on the beach/rocks....
The wind will be very light west and turning to north east on Sunday arvie ...the baro will steadly start rising from tomorrow am onwards as that high ridging in slowly forces the three cold fronts out of the way...
Well , this past week Ive heard of kob , silvers and the odd piggy come out so , lets hope we have a bumper weekend and see lots of pics here on Monday AM!!!

  Mornings East Coasters...we on a full bright moon spring this weekend and at least a 5 to 7 foot swell running from the eastly direction.....I did notice yesterday a bit of a surge but that would be normal as to a bright moon spring.....

Well , as far as conditions for fishing goes its gonna be an IFFY weekend...the water is still at a chilly 15 and with the west yesterday and spilling over to today a bit , lets hope its warmed it up a tad....
That being said , the east will start puffing again from mid morning today and as that west Atlantic high ridges in it will blow a gale tomorrow....
Then right behind that is another weakish cold front and we will get pretty light west blowing in the early early hours of Sunday AM...
NOW...window of opportunity would be on Sunday AM early as the baro will start to rise again and you have a low tide on Sunday at 10h00...This is a good tide for most spots on the Jikeleza and especially those deep water points and one can get onto Cintsa point quite comfortably....
Saturday AM is a low at 09h30 , but Im afraid it might be a blow out with that beastly eastly coming through early....
NOW , its not ALL negative ,,,those of you with the patience and perseverance . this coldish water and the slight off colour is also good for piggies...Ive heard of quite a few coming out at Easterns and on the West bank side...The Jikeleza has its fair number of piggie spots as well and one in question is the Chefane /Cintsa area......GlenGariff bay has also been known to hold a pig or two...
So..get some fresh sand prawn and some nice chokka and good strong sharp 6/0 hooks and not too heavy sinkers and go find a pig!!!
Also with this chilly water the raggie hunters will be licking their lips...
Keep kwelergha in mind as well and the area between Sunrise and Kwelergha is also good and tends to stay clean....
From Germans bay through to Bonzas has been very quiet and the blues fisherman have also had lean catches the past week or so.....
The fisherman that keeps his eye on conditions as they unfold this coming weekend will be the fisherman that gets the catch , its going to be all down to how that wind will puff and to time the baro and tide at the optimum time....

How is the "spooning" going? ..Pleasure Gareth.....well as to the spooning....its been pretty dead.from my side.....although I have not travelled much up n down our Jikeleza and have been fishing at my local spot....so we will see this weekend

  Mornings East Coaster ...we have come off a rather interesting week , although still no sign of proper sizes shoals of sardines , they probably in the deep somewhere waiting for the right temp to make their trippie to the KZN coast...[/size]Now , quite a few reports coming in of numerous catches of piggies coming out on the Sunshine Coast and at Eastern beach....I have seen a number of pics and Ive been told that quite a few were released , so this is also good news for the pignose population....This part of our coast has been known over the years , when the water is right , to produce good catches of this very hard fighting fish...[/color]
[/size]What had been also interesting , is the lack of info coming in of blues being caught , then again maybe conditions have not been spot on for them....[/color]
[/size]Getting onto this weekends fishing .., we have a nip tide weekend and moving into a dark moon spring for next weekend,,,Tomorrow you have a low tide at 01h30 and on Sunday at 02h45...So , those of you who like an early AM session it will be on a pushing tide...[/color]
[/size]Chefane to the right has always produced on a tide like this and another spot that is very fishable on this tide is Glen Gariff.[/color]
[/size]The wind this weekend will be very light and variable as that front approaches and slips off into the big blue with a rather weak high ridging in behind....the water temp is sitting at a cool 16 and maybe with the west that has blown for two past days it maybe might bring that warmer current closer...[/color]
[/size]Of note , a few raggies have also been caught and the water has been fairly clean , so they too will bite if the temp is to their liking and not only in dirty water...[/color]
[/size]The Glen Navar Muir area can also be fished fairly comfortably on this tide.....An area that is often forgotten about is the Haga area...especially those that want to take a late morning drive and catch Pullens as that tide turns around 08h00...[/color]
[/size]So , this weekend looks like its good calm weather for some time at the waters edge , just be alert as ever , even though its a nip tide , the swell running westly will be between 5 to 7 foot , hopefully no surge or sidewash..[/color]

  Good morning East coasters ...well , as I write this we have two weather systems approaching our Jikeleza and as always for the most part we have very fair and mildish weather .....[/size]As one looks at the chart you can see it is looking very anticyclonic and , yes this would mean mild to calm conditions...BUT....as those iso bars grade steeply towards that cold front sitting tightly between the two highs ...we could possibly be in for a stiff west to south wester on Saturday and possibly getting up to 50kph during the mid morning....[/font]
[/color][/size]Sunday will see the wind calm alot and back to that anticyclonic mode...[/font]
[/color][/size]Well , what does all this mumbo jumbo mean for our fishing this weekend ...
While that west , might , bring the warmer current in , as the temp is a chilly 16 at the moment , the barometer should be rising for most part of the weekend and that is always a good sign for some good fishing....[/font]
[/color][/size]We are on a dark moon spring this weekend and while the swell predictions is at 3 to 5 foot range , with an eastly ground swell running, one needs always to extra aware around spring tides...Remember low tide spots get lower and that tide also pushes quicker when it turns , so plan your outings accordingly..[/font]
[/color][/size]Tomorrow you have a nice early AM outgoing tide with a low at 09h15 and on Sunday at 10h00..[/font]
[/color][/size]With the chilly water lately ,and super clean, some notable catches of piggies have been coming out and especially along the West bank and Sunshine coast areas.....when hooking and landing these fine fighting fish , please , I urge you to show some restraint and opt for the release rather than the keep.....many thanks..[/font]
[/color][/size]Well , the shad are still coming out in sporadic fashion and I certainly wouldnt call it SHAD FEVER just yet , although some spots have produced them in good spurts....[/font]

  ..Well , as you can see , a coupla pigs in that lot and some very decent shad have been coming out as well...we moving into another good condition weekend , so we will see as Friday approaches....

  Good mornings East Coasters and It seems these Fridays and our weekends fishing dont come around fast enough..hehe...BUT here we are again and we looking forward to another good weekends fishing...BUT..yes there is a BUT...[/size]As one can see from the synoptic that is a GENUINE winter cold front about OR if not hit CT right between Devils Peak and lions head.....With this front , AND out in the deep blue way south are two more BIG fronts cruising past Marion...bringing a sea state of 5 and over a 20 foot swell running...[/font]
[/color][/size]So , we in for a BIG sea on saturday and spilling over to Sunday....We have a nip tide weekend and heres hoping there is no surge OR bad sidewash...[/font]
[/color][/size]You have a low tide at 01h50 on Saturday and at 02h50 on Sunday , for those early AM outings it will be on a pushing tide.....[/font]
[/color][/size]Cefane springs to mind and with the water we have been having and all the pigs coming out at the moment , its worth your while to keep some fresh prawn and chokka handy....[/font]
[/color][/size]The shad have been fairly loose this past week and the local Gonubie shad OUS have been having a ball at night...[/font]
[/color][/size]Just be aware Folks of those bag limits and size as MCM are out and about and they WILL be firm with any transgressors...[/font]
[/color][/size]On Saturday there will be a fairly stiff west puffing and this will peak out at midday to at least over 50kph...GlenGarif will give you nice shelter with a west like this and possibly Kwelerga.....Those that want a trippie can go Haga side and to Pullens bay on the high black rocks , also very sheltered ...[/font]
[/color][/size]The sea temp is around the 18 mark and the water is a very nice colour...once again be aware of those high water marks with the big seas approaching...[/font]
[/color][/size]Queens berry bay also fairly sheltered with a west...[/font]
[/color][/size]NOW...in my humble opinion...Sunday AM will be a good window of opportunity as the baro will have risen during the course of Sat and the wind will be very light northly between 03h00 and 09h00 , then the beastly eastly will pump through....[/font]
[/color][/size]Well Folks , those travelling along our Jikeleza roads to their fave spots , be alert , especially with what all that is going on at the moment.[/font]

  Good mornings East Coasters ....well we have had a few nippy mornings and up until now it really hasnt felt like winter....This being said and as we speak a rather serious looking front is about to , if not already , smack into the Cape peninsula ..[/size]As often happens along our Jikeleza we tend to just just miss the full force of these winter fronts and almost always get the tip of it as it slips off into the big blue....WELL....this one is going to be no different and the winds this weekend can be expected to be light variable as that weakish high ridges in behind the cold front...[/font]
[/color][/size]There is a small coastal low forming BUT how much that will effect us will only come to light in the middle of this coming weekend...[/font]
[/color][/size]NOW , this past holiday we just had , not too many stories have filtered through on many catches on the Jikeleza and maybe the stiff west most of yesterday kept the fisherman hunkered down...[/font]
[/color][/size]We are on a bright moon spring this weekend and seas expected between a shore line swell of 6 to 7 foot and hoping no surge is coming with this spring tide weekend...[/font]
[/color][/size]Tomorrow you have a a beaut AM low at 08h45 and on Sunday at 09h15...With these tides and those that like an early AM session , most spots on the Jikeleza are very fishable ....the sea is at a very nice 18 and a very good clean colour...[/font]
[/color][/size]Still no significant sightings of any sardines and we still hoping that we get a decent run this year ...This almost always sets the tone for a good summer time fishing spree...[/font]
[/color][/size]Cintsa Point , Kwelerga and Balugha should be good options this weekend and of course a short walk left of the Cefane river always has good beach sand bar options.....[/font]
[/color][/size]Two spots that are also overlooked at times are the two Glens...Navar and Muir...these two have VERY decent gutters and gulleys where you would find some decent poensies to test your mettle....remember , show some restraint when targeting these magnificent fish.....[/font]
[/color][/size]Well Folks , please , once again watch these spring tides and as fast as it goes out it pushes back at almost double the speed , especially if there is a surge involved , and one spot comes to mind and that is Cintsa point ...it can and will catch you out IF you are not aware....[/font]
