always read your posts , sitting 1000km away it breaks my heart but 2016 I hope to visit the Cefani/Gonubie/Port Alfred area again. Been too long away.

will do, need the trip down memory lane , 35 years ago buying my Grandfathers house in Gonubie(23 Hart st for R29,000) would have taken me a very different route through my life

. I wonder if his brothers family the Gernetzkys are still in the area ??. The brother was Ivan G and was harbour master ?? in the 70/80s.

..Quite a few Gernetzkeys in EL...dunno about Gonubie though...you will have to come and check up...

Mornings East Coasters , as I write this we are on the Eve of Chistmas....We also have a bright moon spring tomorrow and this is coupled with the summer solstice that has just passed on the 21st . The sea has a fair surge and a very SW swell direction.[/size]You have high tides at 03h30 tomorrow , Saturday at 04h15 and Sunday at 05h00. Please be alert as these tides drain very quickly and give one a false sense of security on thoae low tide areas as fast as this tide drains is as fast it pushes in. Also of note with this tide it changes almost straight away ...No so called lull.[/color]
[/size]The water temp is around the 18 mark and has a good colour to it. Spots to look at would be GlenGariff....Kwelerga and even Yellow sands infont of the caravan park should be good. NOW...two spots often overlooked with a early AM spring tide are Glen Navar and Glen Muir...Both are a short walk from the Glen Eden side if you do not have access to the two spots. These two spots hold a fair amount of water on a quickly draining spring tide and they are infamous for their silvers and poensies...BUT...you have to work at it coz the two Glens dont give up their secrets too easy...[/color]
[/size]Cefane could be an option BUT you would have to get it early as that stretch of beach gets empty with water quickly. Saturday AM sees us with no wind from at least 04h00 to 10h00. Sunday sees a stiff east and Friday will be west...So , Sat AM seems like the best option.[/color]

Mornings East Coasters , well we on the eve of another year done and most will be having a party tonight and I ask you to stay safe and see the new year in in a happy and fun way. Many thanks to all that contributed throughout the year with all those fishy pics and info on our wonderful Jikeleza coast.

Well , the next three days sees us with a chilly see and the shoreline is pretty grubby...BUT...there is a west puffing today and the coastal low is moving past and this hopefully will clean it up a bit.

Wind predicted for Friday and Saturday will be west and at a moderate rate of knots...Sunday sees us with a slight east and the baro will start rising from tomorrow arvie as that high starts ridging in. Those of you that are venturing out this new years weekend , my tip would be Sat am and Sunday am. Tomorrow you have a high tide at 07h50...Saturday at 09h00 and on Sunday 10h15 and its a dead nip tide weekend , where the water will not move much between low and high...

Spots to look out for would be Cefane to the left...and dont rule out Cintsa bay OR just to the right of the Cintsa West tidal pool.....
Remember that red bait...especially if the water stays cool and cleans up , those silvers will be on line!!!

Mornings East Coasters , well the year has kicked off and most , if not all of us are gearing up for work and to see what 2016 will bring. On the fishing front , the past few weeks has seen out coast experience rather chilly clean clear waters . The past two weekends Ive heard of at least three silvers coming out , but not pics I am afraid , so these then just remain stories.[/size]This coming weekend we have a high tide tomorrow at 03h30 and on Sunday 04h00. Its a dark moon spring weekend , so watch that pushing tide if you like fishing the push.[/color]
The wind will be lightish east the whole weekend and we have a rather serious high pressure ridging over our coast as I write this. This then will keep the baro at a steady 1022 and maybe even go higher. A steady baro is not normally good for fishing BUT with this cool clear water there is a strong possibility of silvers and poensies. So , be prepared and dont forget the humble red bait for silvers.
I do believe the rivers have been fairly warm and some nice size kingies have been coming out at Nahoon ebb and flow area.
Spots to look out for an an early AM outgoing is Queensberry , Glen Gariff , Yellow sands , Cintsa point and even Cintsa beach could work with this flattish sea , with a swell of around 4 to 6 foot and running very southly, Soo...no surge or sidewash expected this weekend.
Folks please be on the lookout for litter especially after this holiday season and I implore you to pick up any nylon etc etc
Well thats all for this weekend and hope the fishing gods are smiling for those out on a session this weekend.

Mornings East Coasters...its another fine warm sunny day on our Jikeleza , that being said , the water is still very clean and freezing . The weather systems backed off our west coast has been perplexing to say the least. The barometer has been steady for almost a week now and sitting at 1018hpk....there are two cutoff lows approaching and these will bring rain , no doubt BUT will it bring enough west to just warm the water a tad , is anybodies guess....the wind will be mainl[/size]y north east but very light to calm in the early mornings .[/color]

With this in mind , no line in the water also then means no chance at least of getting the odd fish....NOW...whilst the water is chilly , you have fish like poensie and silvers who actually like this clean cool water . One just needs to find the right gulley/gutter and you could well be in business and on that note with the present tides , two spots, well three actually come to mind.
Kwelerga village , Glen Navar and Glen muir ,,,all three , excellent hunting grounds for poensie. If you feel like a little ride then pop out to Marsh strand which is just a hop n a skip across the Haga beach , now that is a brilliant poensie spot as well.
Where you find blues you will find silvers and silvers do not mind shallow water . Although the water is clean , do not forget the piggies , these fish can be very elusive at times BUT you get the right sandbank working and time the tide right you will be ON!!!
For pigs , Ive always said Eastern beach in town and then Cefane both sides of the river.
Tomorrow you have a low at 09h30 and on Sunday at 10h15 , such good tides for that early AM session. Remember its a bright moon spring , although the swell is only at 4 to 5 foot and no increase expected , I did notice a fair surge this AM.
When fishing for blues , be wary of this light tackle idea as silvers could very well be on your line and playing a 5kayer for hours on end on light tackle does that fish no good especially if you intend releasing.
Well Folks , thats all for now and remember , pick up the litter and be safe next to the waters edge,,,...

Good day East Coasters , well we on a typical summer weather system coming along our coast and daytime temps are going to be HOT ...east is expected all weekend , with calm to light air early AM on both Sat and Sun...[/size]The inshore water temp has risen a bit and it is sitting around the 17 mark..the water is still fairly clean with the odd grubby patches here and there....tides for Sat is a high at 07h15 and on Sun at 08h00....fairly awkward tides for the Jikeleza BUT you have Cefane and Cintsa that can work nicely on a high early AM nip tide.[/color]
[/size]Kob are coming out and with this water hotting up we could very well be in for a good weekends fishing!!![/color]
[/size]Please keep safety at the foremost of your mind as Ive heard a story of a fisherman been hasseled at Kei Mouth area. Keep alert and always wary of your surroundings.[/color]

Mornings Folks , well , on the premise of the baro rising steadly and not a good tide for me and what I like , I still went for a throw this AM on the push with the water a tad grubby and sitting at a chilly 16 ....I had a good session with the kobbies ,,landing three in total and all around the 50 to 60cm mark. Very healthy and fat , that is a good sign, obviously the time spent in the rivers have done them well. All three took off like bats outta hell when released. Sooo...Im duly pleased!!!
