South African Ladies F/F Team WINS.
« on: February 23, 2012, 08:59:55 PM »
We can be proud of our ladies.

The SA ladies have won the Comonwealth Games Flyfishing Championships just held in Australia. :happ: :happ:   Well done ladies.

P.S. Our Men's team came 7th overall out of 15 + countries.

Together with our SA Carp manne winning the World Champs 2 years running. competition fishing in SA seems to be in the right "zone" at the moment. w;k

If we caught fish on every trip, it would be called " Catching". We don't, and that's why it's called "Fishing".

Andrew they came first out of all the ladies teams.  I.e. winners of the ladies section.

I do have a question to put out there and this might sound a bit stupid, I have been trying to find out for some time, when and how these teams are selected? Do we have provincial teams and then they compete for the nationals?

This is from another Forum:

  Here are some.
  a. trails
  b. Technical evaluation
  c. fly tying.
  d. a league
  etc etc.

The national side is now chosen over a weighted 2 year average.

The top 5 goes to the worlds, the 6 to 10 common wealth.
This is also based on availability and funds available.
A little more info.  Current year ranking points are weighted double the previous year.  (Used to be a 3 year ranking with only the current year doubled - this was recently changed)  Angler must have fished the current year A Nationals to be able to represent at Worlds/Commonwealths.  Anglers also cannot fish in a Protea (Worlds team) unless they have   competed in a Protea/Commonwealths team within the past 2 occassions   that South Africa has participated in the event.     So top 5 anglers on the ranking list that satisfy the above criteria qualify for the Worlds Team.  Top 5 anglers that satisfy the lesser criteria qualify for the Commonwealths Team.     Current 2012 Worlds Team is based on previous year rankings, so those   anglers that fished in the 2012 Nationals are qualifying for the next   (2013) Worlds & Commonwealths teams.
