I am but a humble farmer. I have a diploma in agriculture from Cedara Agric College and have been involved in agriculture/agricultural sector all my life.
 
We own a smallholding (75ha) on the Bushman's Nek road in the Underberg area. Here we run 200 sheep, plant maize and potatoes, have 600 layers for free range eggs and a shavings machine/planer (for wood shavings for stable, dairy calves and chicken bedding). We also lease a 600ha farm on which we run 300 beef cows and plant maize.  We operate a trout hatchery (supplying stockies to farmers and the UHTFC for their dams) on Splashy Fen 13km from our home farm. My hubby sells animal feed to pay the farming bills. I basically manage the farming operations (don't ask about payment!) as well as do the books - a job I do under duress! If there are any farmers out there who need advice on animal supplements or nutrition, please feel free to pm me and I will get hubby to try and assist.
 
As we live in one of the most beautiful and under-rated trout fishing areas in SA, if any UA members wants to test these waters, please give me a pm and I will do my best to hook you up with accommodation and fishing waters.

I am a development consultant and I work for the World Bank, United Nations Development Programme, various international development agencies, sometimes for the SA government etc. I mainly plan recovery and reconstruction strategies and large scale development programmes in post-conflict countries in Africa. I also do monitoring and evaluations of these programmes and provide technical assistance in the design of systems and procedures to manage them.


the rest of the time I manage a couple of properties, watch my veg garden grow, bake ciabatta and cook good food - and of course go fishing!
