KZN Offshore - Whatzup

I seemed to mess up my login and did not want to clear my whole inter webs cache (cookies) so did not report more while in KZN. That being said, we totalled three Dorados, 3 small Tuna, and also got a few sharks to the boat before cutting them off and hooked what I can only assume were Zambezies, off No1 as it felt like hooking the bottom.


We saw a turtle, light coloured (not sure if it is loggerhead or leatherback or some other variety) off LaMercy next to one of the ships, ran with common dolphins for a good few hundred meters, while we were heading to the drop off at Ballito, saw some big grey suites under the boat just off the harbour mouth.


Despite the family scoffing the fish at a rate of knots, I was able to bring a smallish coleman back full of fish, so that was mission accomplished.


Also super impressed with how frugal these suzuki motors are! I would say around 30% less fuel that the 40 strokes I have on the rubber duck.


Overall, it was a great time and while we could always have bought a few more fish, I am pretty happy that we are making progress. A long way from brilliant anglers, but at least doing better than we have previously so onwards and forwards.

Howzit Gents, managed a few launches over Dec/Jan on the Northcoast and got into the fish, best was a nice Yellowtail of 117cm, fishweights gives it as just under 17kg, was hell of a strong fish! We got plenty Dorries, most being rats and mice with a few decent specimens. Also got some decent Yellowfin and then first Couta of the season. Had Maganything for a day out but unfortunately we just got    and some small bonnies!

Nice fish guys well done, we also got our share of  and one  as well as some nice bottom fish. Fishing was excellent for a couple weeks now back to the wind.

We will be down as soon as the schools close. Our school doesn't know whether they are arthur or martha, so it could be anwhere from the 28th November to very early December? Once the clan are down there, I will come backwards and forwards a little and then come down around the 14-15th to get everything ready for Soddies from the 17-23rd and then I will be back in hillcrest until early jan.


I am hoping we manage to fill at least one coolbox to bring back to JHB in that time, although most of the fish gets scoffed pretty quick smart and if we get one/trip we consider ourselves to be doing well.


Looking forward to some down time after, what has not been the best year in recorded history.
