Great day on the water Saturday, launched at 04h15, managed 6 mozzies headed out landed 3 dorado, lost 2 and threw off one mozzie, all by 05h45. :fshn: :fshn:
A bad days fishing is better than sitting at home moping.

We are coming down Saturday. Is there likely to be decent weather by then, as I just spoke to my mom in Umhlanga and she said the sea is a mess.

Is Sunday still looking better than Saturday? Was thinking about leaving Friday pm as it looks like Sunday will be raining? Don't care too much about the rain, but would like to know if we Should try and capitalise on Saturday?

I see that the wind will be up on Saturday so perhaps will take a trek around the harbour. Are there any new rules about launching from the public slip at PYC or can you just head down there and sign out as long as you have COF etc? Think that may be quite fun for a first trip. Would be good to take out the light tackle and have a crack at some grunter etc. and perhaps something a little bigger near the harbour mouth.

20kts is still pretty breezy even for the bay but you can get some protection, you won't have any problems launching at the public slip is all is in order just beware fishing the mouth area as they have been clamping down on boats disregarding limits there.

Also chat to the SAP chaps to make sure they are ok with where you have parked. I've had a few mates park there, only to come back to find hefty fines placed under their windscreen wipers.

Good point. I have not used the bay since we had our dam boat, which was a few years back and I would park in those long bays just in front of the ramp to the left. Where does one park now?

I have also asked the office at DSBC is they can give me this "bay permit" although i have never heard of it before and should have asked about it while I was done for the COF.

Sunday def the better day for deepsea. We will be launching Sunday.
If you in the harbour and want to go out to see, you should have a DOC. Not sure if you have one.

Definitively not going through harbour mouth as I understand there is another quiz with the harbour master for this which I have not done. Also my wife won't come out to sea as she get sea sick pretty quickly but she was happy to potter about the bay. We have some stoepkakker's that also like to run around the shallows during low tide and it is quite nice to potter about looking at ships, pop into that coffee shop at wilson's wharf and get a brew etc so this will be the agenda for Saturday.

Then Sunday we would like to bag some Dorado's and anything else that will bite our lines.

Well we went into the Bay on Saturday and it was not a great experience. I had a lingering sense of dread that the car would be on bricks etc, and it reminded me a lot of the public slipways on the Vile river. Anyway, I think we will give the bay a wide berth moving forward.

Dragged my youngest out on Sunday relatively early and we took the new boat for its first proper run in the sea. Went and picked up some live bait at the marker bouy that the ships line up on for the run into the harbour. Then trawled out over number 1, and then onto the ships off umhlanga and Umdloti. We had some mankey old sardines that a friend had given us that were starting to get a bit ripe, so I convinced the young sprocket to head for Umhlanga Barge to try and chum the waters.

We rocked up on scene and put two dead Sards onto circle hooks and then let them out with just the ratchet thingy on on the multipler reels. He then just started chucking the whole cards overboard as we were drifting. After about 2 mins he had a Darado on that we managed to boat. We had three boxes of Cards so he hooked up another dead bait and kept checking the others overboard and sure enough he got a scond male Dorado, but it ran and managed to pull the hook. I think he was winching a bit too hard as he was worried about sharks.

Anyway we steamed back as we were wanting to keep the fish fresh with a few lures out but at a good speed, with no further bites. All told very happy that we managed to get fish on the board this early and I hope we will be able to feed the family and a mate or two whiile we are here and dare I hope, have a bit left to take back to JHB when we are done.

Not sure how to attach a photo, but it was a nice colourful Darado.

We made a quick launch yesterday morning.
Also fished the marker buoy and bumped into CLS and GregF there, nice banter between the boats as usual.

Managed one dorrie on popper and called it a day early. Sea wasnt lekker in the early morning.

No pics unfortunately.

Well yesterday was a late start as my young fellow was convinced he was going to get wet. Went down to kings first to find a little net to fish out the live bait as this was clearly an omission previously. Then back to the boat to find out why the live bait pump stopped working. Corroded wires that we managed to fix but I will sort properly today. Then filled the boat, but by now we were starving so filled up with cheese burgers at the club.

Finally out to sea around 13h00, and we went straight to the marker bouy, which after listening on Ch9 i believe is called the fair-weather bouy. Picked up some mozzies and then the strangest thing happened. At least two mozzies were replaced by shad only slightly bigger. Very odd as the shad were perhaps 25-30cms, but seemed too small to have eaten the mozzies whole, but were hooked through the bottom lip as if they were rigged for a slow trawl. Not sure what happened there.  Anyway another up country boat pulled out three Dorado while we were there and so my son decided that there must be no more dorados so we must go to no1.

Went there and picked up what I can only surmise was a large shark as it felt like we had hooked the bottom. Then decided to go back to bouy and got another strong bite. My son told his lilttle mate to take this fish, and after about 5mins he was knackered so my son took over. He managed to get a shark onto the surface and pretty close to the boat before it took off and broke the line. We hung around as another fellow was onto a tuna and then the wind and rain came up very quickly so we steamed back to DSBC and got quite soaked getting the boat on the trailer.

All told another good day and quite fun hauling up that shark, but want some tuna or dorado now. I am told that the rest of the week will be lousy, which is fine as I go back to JHB until thursday, and then we will hope for good weather on Friday and the rest of December.

back in JHB today and tomorrow with poor weather. Boat is a big orange Ace Glider 530 that we should have named garfield, but it came with the name "biteme."

Have yet to work out where my iPhone is stashing the image files, but if I can figure it out will try and post a pic.

Well back in KZN and the outlook seems bleak for the next few days. Where's that sad face emoji? Anyway, we may try our luck a little later today,  but will probably end up just letting the kids boogie board and I will try and drag my tired carcasss for a gallop along the new beach walk.

Problem is in Hillcrest you can never really tell what is going on at sea and I have missed some days before where my weather app told me it was a no go and when we get to the beach it looks awesome!
