Guess what Santa brought us for Christmas........


Woke up a bit late got to the club at about 6am, but missed the the morning traffic though. Sea was quite flat, went to look for bait, got nothing at Limestone or the the containers. Gave up on the bait and headed for the ships. Pulled Halcos, kona's and feathers, eventually put on 2x Halcos and got lucky near one of the ships with this bull Dorado. I got one other pull later but was a small fish and came unbuttoned. The wind picked up from the south so called it quits at 9:30. Lekker morning out.

Another great day yesterday.

We launched at RB and ran down to Zini. We got around 450kg of fish.
Released most of it since we got plenty fish the previous outing and kept some of pan sized cob for dinner as well as a couple of lantern fish.

I battled what I thought was a 50kg dagga salmon for 40minutes on my trap stick 10kg line, and then suddenly felt a huge bump. the picture was the result.

The guys RB slaughtered the fish, and  I could count at least 12 dead marlin tails in the bins

Dont know why I stil bother to release fish, feel like whatever the rest release is just taking out by out people in any case.

Another great day, well done mate. It is so disheartening to hear of the billfish slaughter that is going on and like Toppie also says, we're fooling ourselves to think we, as sport anglers are going to save the oceans. The point is that a start has to be made somewhere and although it will be a long, frustratingly slow road, we can't ever expect to get any messages anywhere if we ourselves abuse the privledge. It is not unlawful to keep a billy, but is it necessary.
The young people that you are spending time with will one day be ambassadors for our billfish and all because of the examples you guys have set.

Thanks Mike, In do what I can to teach people that fish with me that its 100% ok to take fish for the pan. But its equally rewarding to enjoy the catching part of our sport with the accompanying releasing part. Releasing a billfish must be one of the most satisfying experiences ever.

I had to get my seaworthy done and take the boat for a spin on Friday so we launched late at about 6, the SW was still at at about 10kts so we tried around the corner for couta, the water was 21.5deg but very clean, after about an hour I had a pull on my downrigged mackerel - a small pick handle.
I then shot out to the 50 and pulled lures out to the 250 and back to no1 but nothing.
One positive is that the warm water has finally arrived offshore, at the 150 it was 24.2deg!!!

Well done Jaen you getting some good results. So sickening to hear of the rampant billfish slaughter going on. I had the misfortune of witnessing the first casualty if the Shelly billfish season today - a boat brought back a smallish black to hang up in front of the tourists at Shelly this afternoon.

went out yesterday and while there where plenty of good size tuna around but no takers. Managed to get Balito Andre on a few good fish though.

Myself and 3xF launched yesterday, 2nd boat on the water 03h55 got nto barge and loaded the bait quick plus two Sardas, headed to Umhloti to try for a Couta on route FFF pointed out a slick on the water very strange, then noticed the live well all bait upside down, so what  ever it was fuel spill from the   ships only possible answer    obvious the   water had  pumped into the well killing all the bait, so fished them out, 8 still had life so manged to keep them. Got to Umhloti set baits for a couta but nadda, water   was full of (as Fritz aptly named it) Gorilla snot thick clumps of black jelly like crap all over the lines bait hooks so nthis spoiled our chances of getting a bite. Headed to the ships hoping for a Dorrie or Tuna but no luck, almost every ship had a boat working it and seeing 75 boats launched not surprising but heard plenty boats blobbed, so we don't feel that bad. A nice bull dorrie was weighed at the club 16.5kilo,, i was more interested in the lady angler than the fish  ,  eeish DSBC is a good place to hangout on a summers day after fishing, just have a good pair  of Sunnies on hand.
