Went well thanks, bit of a shock to the brain, need to bo my medical and get my logbook signed , wohefully this week,then it will be submitted.

Headed out yesterday off Shelly to target some garrick. Sea was flat as a pancake and no wind, water temp 20,4deg in the middle of winter! Livebait was scarce we only managed one mackerel, two mozzies and a load of small pinkies. We worked the Sandspit area for an hour and a half with livebait but no pulls on the baits or plugs. The SW pulled in early and was already blowing 10 knots at 10.30am so we upped lines and ran out to a deeper mark where the guys have been getting some nice 'bek and a few yellowtail the past week. On arrival there was only one boat there, they had been fishing for tail and bek with bait all morning with no joy, and it was a bit of a shock for them as we dropped our jigs on our first drift next to them and went straight on with a double up of AJ's! What followed was non stop action with tropical yellowtail and greater ambers slamming our jigs. Within the first hour we had 5 fish between 4-6kg, before I got absolutely slammed on a new drift. The fish pulled hard against my Stella's drag and nearly reefed me a couple of times, these 'tail box hard and eventually we gaffed a lovely yellowtail of around 13kg. Our next drop was a double up and Kurt got smashed into the reef by another big 'tail. I nearly got my fish to the boat when the fight changed gears as a 200kg Zambo picked up my amber and ran off with it. I locked up the Stella's drag and pulled hard back and eventually he let go - the fish came back looking like it had been through a cheese grater! He even swam up to the boat to wait for us to drop the mangled fish overboard! Unfortunately the SW picked up quickly to 20 knots and blew us off the water by 1.30. It was a great morning's jigging, getting arms stretched and feeling the deep burn again!
