My new setup
« on: July 22, 2011, 11:58:42 AM »
This is part one of my new little setup. Managed to pick this baby up for a very good price while down in margate. It will be paired with my new Gremlins custom p6 which when Brendan showed it to me in his workshop last week was looking oh so sexy.
Somehow I ended up with 2 14000 spools and not a 14000 and 10000 spool. One is filled with 50lb HMPx8 and the other with 30lb HMPx8 braid which I must say is unbelievably well priced. The 50lb spool takes exactly 600m and the 30lb was loaded with 600m filled up with mono and then unwound and rewound with the mono as backing. I really think this is going to change the way we fish

Well my new rod arrived and boy am I happy with it. I actually got a chance to fish with it on our recent splash and dash trip mainly tossing a small toby spoon for shad with it and despite being rated to 6oz it flicks the 1.5oz toby well enough because the tip is so well designed for casting. Managed to hook one decent fish with it that really put a bend in the rod before the sinker jammed up and I lost the fish having to give slack line :-(

Recieving this rod was a lesson in the lengths UA members will go to for each other. When building this rod gremlins first cable tie the bionic finger on and you fish with it and adjust the bionic finger as you want once you find your optimum spot you send it back and they bind it for you. Knowing I would be fishing with Fritz I sent him a message asking if he would take the rod back to gremlins after our trip for me. Fritz then suggested he would make a plan to not only bring it back to Gremlins but also fetch it from them and take it to the transkei with him. Great I said but I have already paid for postage etc. No problem Fritz replies he has phoned Gremlins arranged to pick up the rod and take it back there after the trip and have it posted back saving me R150 in the process. Bear in mind that Fritz did all of this for a guy he had never even met or spoken to on the phone. Fritz you are a king amongst peasants here on Ultimate :resp:

It was a factory fault the reel has an aversion to small fish and tries to self destruct :hehe:
