I was  :fshn: up there March - May '11. The hotspot for  :gljn: on that end is Bakoven. I'm sure you know where it is. The guys were pulling ave size of 30 - 40cm & i know of couple in the 45cm+ range also...
Note: Bakoven is a tackle whore, so expect to lose a bit of lead, however it's well worth it...

Also make sure to have your fishing permit handy at all times. MCM actually does their job on the west coast. If you don't have one.... (bat (bat (bat

yis no west coast expert, but here is some up to date news:

SE has been blowing, means water is flat and clear on the west coast side.  Bakhoven would produce skaamhaai and that's about it at the moment.

Last week still produced some nice fish. Very few size ones though.  Melkbos, and the rocks between tableview and blue peter also produces at times but most of the holes aren't open.

There is a story i read on another page that steenbras were coming out at "kaptein's klip".

That is the last rocks before the long stretch of beach that goes to koeberg.  Best bait for steenies is prawn.  You'll have to pump those in milnerton lagoon.

Best bait that side for gallies is whitemussel, they are only interested in the stomach, and wonderworm.  That said the only gallies i've caught were at haakgat that side and it was on VROT and i mean VROT red bait.

Whitemussel - You can buy that at fishing specialists
Red bait - Better if you can pick up a few pods
Prawn - Pump Milnerton lagoon
Wonderworm - You have to know someone who knows someone who'll tell you where to go and then dig till ur fingers look like that girl in the pit from silence of the lambs!!!! Not my bait of choice for that reason in particular and that i've only caught skaamhaai on it.
Men... what lies ahead on that beach... IMMORTALITY.... TAKE IT IT"S YOURS!!!!!!

@ Moolies....  :blktl: = A good spot on the west coast would be clifton area, but also loaded with bream and hottentot. they will take anything they can put in their mouths.

Like Marthin said if the wind blows the water flat, then most fish will be off the bite except for the small shark species.  :gljn: around that area is more inclined towards munchng white mussell as that is the most readily available food source there, but some days they will only munch redbait, so their pref. do change. If you don't have much luck then mix your redbait/white mussell 50/50. Redbait ontop & white mussel on the business end of your hook. That works quite well.
There are many baitshops around ,but if need be and you get stuck most BP garages will also stock bait; not the freshest always so be careful.

With fresh prawn you can also head to 3rde steen for massive steenbras 10KG +.
Wonderworm... You will hook  tons of small shark and stuff you dont want before you get anything you do.. Not my fav. either.
I'd stick to redbait and white mussell there, and target  :gljn:, :blktl: & stumpies.

Anywhere around clifton, where there's a bit of reef with sandbanks in between. They normally lay about 80 -100 m in, so you're cast has to be in that range. Also from personal experience targeting Blactail, they tend to be very active on high tide between 4:30ish - sundown... I've only once caught a blacktail before 4:30pm, the rest have all been minutes before the sun dissapears... Small ones bite during the day but the big ones around sunset. My fav. place for  :blktl: is Strand/ G-bay... You'll also have you're hands full with hottentot there...  But really anywhere around clifton should yield results, and remember if one spot doesn't produce any heavy hits in an hour then move up the beach to the next. They tend to move around so you might have to go and find them.... Good luck
