Kasouga River... Please Help!
« on: June 27, 2011, 09:31:50 AM »
Hi guys on Saturday i bought Mike Pike's inflatable Rubber Duck at a steal of a price and now I am going to use it on rivers around the Port Alfred area. As I am inexperienced when it comes to small craft such as this boat, its a 2 man inflatable flat bottom duck, I want to start off fishing a few blind rivers where there is not a lot of current or none at all before I tackle rivers such as the Kowie, Bushmans, Kariega and Sundays... So please can anyone give me any ideas of how the Kasouga River has fished lately or any experiences one has had there? My parents have a house about 5 k's from the river so I would like to give it a try!

Howsit WK,

I know the kowie and kariega reasonably well. Kasouga says nothing bigger than a 10hp, Im sure you know that though. I haven't heard anything recently about up river, but the estuary is stupidly full up with mullet and if you get lucky and find the swimming prawns, (which i think have come and gone in the kowie already), you should be inline for fun with the skippies.

I say prawns prawns prawns. Grunter, skippies and cobbies to be had Im sure. Let us know when you are around as I'm on vac till the 25th and stay in PA

Cheers

Hey BM, long time no speak!

Yeah my inflatable doesnt have a motor yet so it will all be in the arms  :hehe:

Yeah I have heard the mullet are plentiful and they are huge as well! The last I heard was a guy who caught a 6.4kg Leerie close to the estuary in March, but nothing since then...

Great I will get hold of some prawns im really keen to get a Skippie, its been a while!!! Whatever comes my way I will take it though  :-) Thanks for the info bru... I will be in Kenton Saturday the 9th and 10th of July and then again on the 16! Have made a plan with AD97 who is going to be there as well, I arrive on friday night so if you keen come through to the Sandbar at about 7 and throw some lures for some Kob  :-)

sounds like a plan!

you might also like the idea of driving up to the weir at the top of the kariega and putting in the boat :row  and working lures for the leeries, skippies and grunter that supposedly live there in mass. I'm hoping to boat it up there sometime this vac and look for grunter. Will talk when your down.

Keep well in the meantime

Great bru!

That sounds awesome, the weir you talking about is that the one by the game reserve on that dirt road?

i've only been there by boat, but I would imagine so because the Kariega reserve is on your right when heading up river, and thats the same side as the road you take. I haven't ever driven there, but I know one can get there by vehicle.
