Bling bling!
Jokes aside for me it is the ease of throwing a grinder plus the added distance and sensitivity of braid.

There is no distance gained, saw that at Nationals. It is more difficult to throw a medium sized bait with a grinder than a multiplier

Sensitivity, there is a positive. The guys I spoke to from KZN and Zululand said they used it because they needed the thinner braid to help when fishing in the heavy rips in KZN, that sounds the most plausible reason. The rest I'm afraid looks more about keeping up with the Jones's.

Distance depends on the angler. If you throw a mulitplier 150m you can't expect a massive improvement. I on the other hand throw a mp 100m where as my grinder on a fairly rubbish rod for the purpose I hit 130ish purely because I can push it with no fear

Craig did you see what happened at the nationals , this is definately revolutionising our frontiers bru , the multipliers are still in but the grinder set ups are becoming more popular , theres one club in NCAU that only fish grinders , Leviathons i belive also , i am testing them here , got me two set ups so far , i will recieve my one piece t flex when i return robbie started with it today ; i cant see why it wouldnt work here cows , smoothies flatties all the main target speciess, you know what the south easter can do here  make fishing and hilding sinkers down difficult , with braid all of the above become manageable and oh well you get lekker distance aswell, Jerome TRubshor , Malcolm Paul < Gunther all have been trying them out , the season is not 100 percant to give an accurate summary , but lets wait for spring and for the water temp to rise , and a true account of the set up can be seen ! dont wait bru start planning now , graphite going up 30 percent next month and with the craze , braid grinders bionic finger all gonna be atleast 25 percent more expensive , if it takes of here , we in for a shock with the prices, social guys have started with them already , struisbaai ous are killing the steenies with them already bru

I have been following these grinder revolution threads for a while, and was also tempted to go this route... I still might !

One thing I gave to say... It's gonna get costly when you snap off the braid..... And it will happen !

Can somebody give me a good reason why a grinder would be better than a multiplier for medium weight angling?

It's not even so much "medium weight" fishing anymore either... the KZN league ouens are landing some huge fish on these setups. Action Man and his mate Kyle Simpson have been fishing like this for a couple of years now, landing plenty 80-100kg Honeys and Blackfin on braid setups... apparently the fight is epic!

Hi guys, just to share with you my grinder setups, i make use of the Stella 20K sw and the Ultegra 14000, with 50lb jigman and 48lb gatorbraid respectively. My rods are specially built by Basil Manning in durban based on the T/flex concept. I have been fishing the setup for 2 years now and its revolutionised my angling. So much so i only use the multipliers when sliding in the T'skie or swimbaiting. My success rate has improved greatly, with no need to use more than a 6oz sinker, where guys with mono cant hold in a current with 8oz sinkers, increased casting distance better hook up rates, no overwinds, and the much quicker landing of fish, are added advantages, the pressure the braid puts on a fish is unbelievable. Attached a photo of a large Honeycomb ray i got, landed in 20minutes with the grinder. Heard a rumor that SASAA has banned the use of slides in future national tournaments, if true this will surely be the way to go.

Great post Squirrel!  :welc: +cred

How have you found that Gator Braid? I've heard conflicting reports about it's strength?

Awesome set up, nice Honey. Was about to ask a similar question to Reefs, how do you find Gator Braid as apposed to Jigman Braid?

I currently have Gator on my set up and while i havnt pulled a fish as yet on the set up, i have towed a bull dog or three. Bloody strong stuff that!! Got stuck in the bricks, pulled and pulled till those wires till they looked like spagetti.

Hi Guy's i can't fault the Gator Braid, pulled quite a few fish on the one spool and still good as new, casts brilliantly, and had it on the bricks a few times with no visible damage what so ever. Value for money you can't beat with maybe the exception of the HMP braid which i have not used yet. The Jigman is very good and durable and probably the best out there, it knots exceptionaly well only drawback its a bit thicker (50lb) =.33mm, Gatorbraid 48Lb = .21mm, and very expensive. I personally get far better distance casting the Gatorbraid. I am busy testing the new Daiwa Tournament Braid 50LB at the moment and i must say so far its the best i have used, throwing miles, super strong, knots brilliantly, just need to judge its durability over time.

Try playing around with sinker weights and drop lengths. Also try and get hold of an ultegra to play with. The long cast spool does make a difference

Agree with Half Pint, big difference between throwing with a Saragosa and an Ultegra. Threw a 5oz with a Saragosa and my Assassin Heavy, wasn't impressed. With the Ultegra i almost doubled my distance
