Used to be.. Went to Underberg Primary back in the day and lived on the Sani Pass.. What a magnificent place!!

Will be taking my family back some day soon to visit my old haunts.. The Himeville Arms Hotel had a huge aquarium inside with trout in and old fly fishing equipment displayed. As a kid it was fascinating to me and I would spend hours there..

Be keen to hear what is happening in that area now days.. Anyone got info...
Don't wish it was easier, wish you were better !!

the UHTFC is still going - although with reduced membership. The reduction in membership means less money to run the club and stock the dams - now only members can book waters - and bookings are done via a booking service. It would also seem that there are less waters available now than before

To be honest, some of the private dams were far better than anything the club dams had to offer.. Lake Isabella was well stocked and had plenty fish - from fingerlings through to about 1.5kg were abundant - anything bigger was rare..

Private waters were far better for me..

Fly fising for bass was great as well.. We had moved into Himeville and we stayed on a private manor that had a great dam - every day after school was fishing for me! Nice bass and anything from fingerlings right up to the monsters that could fit a 2 litre coke bottle in their mouths.. The lady of the Manor was Anne Major, doubt the old girl is still about but that was a great venue..

For SUPERB TROUT - A farmer by the name of Nicky Williamson had MAGNIFICENT waters on his land! If I recall correctly there were 2 or 3 interlinked dams with the top dam being the largest. This water produced many good fish in excess of 2kg and I got my personal best there - Rainbow male of just over 4kg .. Neglected to change my tippet material and next presentation a larger trout parted the tippet and made off with my Mrs Simpson..

Will follow this thread.. anyone else got some input here?

I really only fish the rivers - but when they are closed - then I fish the dams when in the area.

Isabella is one of the cub waters - it still fishes well

Private waters are always great - if you can access them of course!

The pic was taken at Isabella in April last year

Yeah that is right.. is what I meant - Isabella being the club dam..
Those were about as good as it got when I fished the waters..

Did not do much river fishing although had a river in my back yard that produced some nice feisty Rainbows and some really difficult to catch Browns..

Here was one of my favorite beats..

Came across this thread searching for another one, Abaddon for interest sake im pretty positive the dams you talk about belonging to Nicky we now own, we bought it from someone that bought it from nicky, unfortunately the trout stocking ended when Nick sold it, I started stocking it last year again and the fish are doing really really well. Some of the older UHTFC members talk highly of those dams so hopefully they'll get back to their former glory
its cruiser country

Hey Kevf

I'm coming up to underberg from the 31st of Dec, I'm looking to fly fish that side of the world. Is there any chance of coming to your dam

Regards

Andrew
