Hi FH.
Do you have a boat/canoe? If not you may be limited to the mouth-end of the river and the Pont camp site only. (which is not bad)
I've had some success on small fish like pick handle barracuda, bar tail flat head, grunter, etc.
It is said that the upper reaches produces fair size cob. There are kingy's, bream, etc. as well and the river is also popular amongst fly fishers.
Only problem is water sports with power boats. Ski'ers, etc.

Hi Pierre
I have access to a paddle boat which I intend using.

The fish you talk of do you target them with bait or art lure and dropshot?

Have you fished the surf much from the side or just from your kayak?

Thanx Pierre for your advice so far,if you wud rather pm me I do understand. Some guys don't enjoy sharing on this almost Public forum.

FH,
The barracuda & flathead were caught trolling lures and with spoons from the kayak.
Grunter were caught on prawns and I've seen TV programmes where guys caught kingy's bream, etc on soft bait drop shot.
I tried surf fishing but with my lack of experience did not have success.
It is said that just south of the lighthouse bronze bream can caught.
The fishing in the river is not that great to be "secretive" about it  :-)

Fished the river from the boat a couple of weeks back. Nothing touched the bait but i picked up a nice river snapper and a small bream (no idea what it was) on a rapala. That was it for two days' fishing.

Must mention that this was my first time fishing this river so didn't have a clue where to start. Fished the river from one end to the other and eventually caught these two fishies on day 2.

Both these fish were caught towards the mouth just past the very deep drop off and rocky cliffs (past the pub on your left hand side)

They were both hiding in between the palm trees that hang over/in the water.

Tried every lure known to mankind but the only thing that worked (as luck would have it one of the last lures in my tackle box) was one of my old rapala bass cranks. Tried many colors but the one that worked was a light blue with orange underneath.
Not the exact same lure as the one in the pic, but the color was about the same.

I will go back again when summer comes, it's a lovely little river that.

Good luck.
