Getting stript and ript from a fish
« on: May 16, 2011, 07:23:08 AM »
Whats happening forum!!!
This weekend i went out for some scratching again, arrived at seaview around 7 am.Low tide was around 7:30,sea was flat and water cold, and not alot of foam,i knew that i was goona struggle to get any fish but stil i tried my luck!Quickly made some bait and prepared my gear.I took my 7ft Elbe and shimano slade with 20bl braid for the first cast cause the sea was so flat and i knew that the big fish wont byte.So first cast,20sec and i was vas,a nice blacktail, bringed him in and got stuck on a redbait head 10m infront of me,not willingto give up,as i saw my fish flapping on the redbait,i tried to give some slack to get loose, but nothing was working, waited and waited for a swell to make me loose,so staring at my fish flapping, just as i wanted to pull off my line,BOOOOOOOOM a masive explosion on the water, tail flapping and water boiling next the redbait bank,It was a spottie, and a monster too, mmmmm and my blacktail was his target, not what i have planed,i could feel him gulping down my prize and making my trace loose from the redbait, suddenly my drag started sceaming and my rod straightend,a 15-20kg spottie on the ultra light tackle, what a experience!!!!But i didnt had a chance, there was no stopping this little monster, stript me in 1minute,reel empty!!!and broke my braid at the spool,so i lost my blacktail, lost R250,00 worth of braid and my Slade broke, drag got broken cause of the big fish!!Just my luck,so i took out my trusty big gun and made a couple of more casts for the day, just got 3 more blacktail for the day, around 500g-1kg to be the biggest. So i had more a loss than anything for tis weekend, still it was alot of fun having a spottie on my ultra light tackle,Swearing and sceaming like a out of control teenager the other anglers just laught at me,they saw what happend. But anyways,i still got 3 fish and enjoyed a lekka fresh fish braai that night.
So what did you guys do?
Work sucks,lets go fishing

Hehe I have also had the privilege of having a fish break the drag on a reel. Threw a small live pinky off scottburgh point hunting some shad and wham got nailed by a bus! The poor little okuma finchaser reel screamed smoked seized and jammed up that was the end of that! The same day a massive kingie was landed and I mean MASSIVE! I reckon he snacked on my pinky that morning and showed me a thing or 2. As I'm sure you realised its quite a feeling when you know you can't stop the fish you just wonder what will break first
