Kingy tacticts when taking a prey fish/lure

I think the only thing a iggy uses to stun its prey is its tonsils when you look at the size of its mouth in proportion to every thing else there isn't much it can't charge in and  eat whole. The only thing you must keep in mind about its tail is it has two razor blades stashed there that will sort out your fingers if you aren't careful.

Not true PH - I've watched them grabing live bait and they have always just grabbed it with their mouth first up. Similarly attacking poppers inevitably with the mouth but when they miss....sure the tail can hit it.

Spot on Bruce. They charge in and turn as they hit the lure/fish. Taking it from the head and when you feel the hit he is already going away from you. If they miss the tail often comes out of the water and appears to be slapping at the popper, but this is not a tactic on their part.

False, he hits his prey full on and hard with that big mouth of his.

I have never seen a GT/Kingie get foul hooked in the tail. Just evidence they do not "slash" at their prey with their tail. Even when they mis, they never hit the popper with their tail otherwise I'm sure we would see some foul hooked fish!

hi guys, I have never seen a kingie use his his tail when attacking but have seen  iggies " head butt" poppers before...  It was at kosi lakes (lake 1) where our poppers were head butted literally a few metres out of the water, but not attacking in the normal way of attacking and "chomping" your popper... They also did not follow it to pick it up again... Almost as if they were irritated with the poppers....

Another time at he mouth I saw iggies charging and chasing spotted grunters onto the sandbank with such verocity that they were hit from all angles and body parts in the charge, but that is not their style, that was the close your eyes and lets get those !@#@ grunters!
