Chumming for couta

I have always thought that chumming is only good for attracting sharks.
Do you have other opinions? What is your strategy for chumming. How what where?

Personally I do not chum for Couta ever but only for Tuna. Tuna I would do it to raise them when I see the shoals are thick downstairs. Did it on Oscar deep once. Let your trolling lines out long and chuck chunks over board as the boat passes over. They come up and feed and then pick up the lures.

Have tried while sitting at anchor with a bit of a current. Cannot say it worked, also have chopped chunks of sardines and thrown over while working a reef area and have had pulls, not sure if it was the chum or the fish happened to be there. :cnfzd
A bad days fishing is better than sitting at home moping.

I agree, while it is popular overseas, in our water the chum seems to bring the sharks before the gamefish, and I have no idea how to get past that. Would be great if we could.
